Ok - let me tell you about The Wood. I LOVE THIS PLACE. We come every year to watch March Madness and the staff are always welcoming of our raucous crowd. Friendly atmosphere...it's like Ottawa's version of Cheers. The Wood Burger is great with its smoky bacon, cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions and hot peppers. The Maple-roasted Pecan Salad is a fantastic change from the regular pub fare with its slices of Granny Smith apples, maple roasted pecans and feta cheese. This bar offers a nice range of beers including the hoppy Ashton IPA. They could probably boost their wine selection...but hey! It's a pub.
The food is good, but not overwhelmingly good, but better than your average bar. Grab a group of friends, head this welcoming bar and enjoy some sports. Great people watching too if seated at the front of the pub overlooking Wellington West.
Good Pub Food. Been there a few times. I only ever order the Capsicum Calzone and love it every time. It's a good place for pints. I ordered scotch one time and asked for it with one cube, and the server brought it over and said "I put three cubes in it because our cubes are small." So I stopped ordering scotch after that.
Nice place to watch a Game and Relax. The taps are clean and well kept unlike other bars close by on Wellington. Classy atmosphere wear you can dress casual. Good for young professionals that are sick of Elgin Street. The food is ok, wings are good and not greasy, burgers come with fries and a plain salad. Cider is good. Wine is a little over priced. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Frequent it often. Nice sports bar and really decent food!!! BUT, the owner who serves could a a BIT MORE personality, thr only negative!!!
Surprising. I went to The Wood with my partner and a friend. When we first walked in, I was a little put off by the decor and atmosphere, which seemed kind of like a hole-in-the-wall sports bar. My expectations for the meal and drinks was lowered, but when I read the menu I was surprised to find interesting combos; even better was the actual taste of my burger.
I would definitely be willing to try something at The Wood again.
Best bar in the city. Great feel and awesome TVs. If you are looking for a place to watch the game head down to the wood on Wellington. You will not be disappointed.
