Did someone add fried chicken and sriracha to mac 'n' cheese? Yes, the boys at Le Cheese did. We stopped at the casse croute for Mac + Cheese Week and liked what we saw so far.

Le Cheese is a casse croute in NDG, as well as a Food Truck that can be found spreading cheesy goodness all over town. We had already fallen in love with their Philly Cheese Steak sub from their Food Truck, but now they have a little casse croute to satisfy your needs all year round. A casse croute is the Quebecker term for a snack bar and what’s more comforting than a gooey grilled cheese sandwich? We certainly don’t know! If you follow the Divas you know that we love a good grilled cheese sandwich.

Le Cheese is mostly known for being an amazing food truck in the city that everyone loves and relies on when it comes to their ooey-gooey cheesy needs. But they also have their own tiny restaurant located in NDG which is actually more like a super casual snack bar. In fact, "casse croute" translates to "snacks" in English. So that makes sense. The little place isn't super fancy, and it's mostly just a counter to order at, a few tables, and a chalk board menu. It's a very simple and clean look. No funny business here, only the business of eating melty cheese. The people working are super fun and friendly (free high fives), the music is upbeat, and the insanity happening over on the grill-top isn't to be missed.
Put the cheese in my mouth! The menu in the casse croute is a bit more extensive than what you'll find in the truck (which was parked out front), which is a good reason to try out their brick and mortar should the cheesy mood strike you. They specialize in macaroni and cheese (they sell it by weight and you can get a whole pound of it if you want) and grilled cheese sandwiches. And of course they have poutine too, because it would be nonsense if they didn't. So get ready to eat your cheese, cheese, and cheese and shut up! You can make your mac & cheese or grilled cheese into a combo, which allows you to choose two sides along with it. This is the best value ever.

I decided to go grilled cheese and selected Le Batman ($16.00) sandwich combo. My first side selection was the Gaspacho because it was a hot day. However, they also offer tomato soup, which would be absolutely perfect on a cooler day for the quintessential sandwich-dipping experience. Another possible side is the Caprese Salad, which my husband chose. It looked so good, that I stole it and included it in my photo. This first round was wonderful, because although this place specializes in a lot of cheese, both of these dishes were ridiculously, amazingly fresh. It was nice to begin the meal this way. My gaspacho was wonderfully cool and deliciously seasoned. In case you didn't know, gaspacho is essentially tomato soup served ice cold (The Simpsons should have taught you that). It's usually a bit more chunky than the typical hot soup, however. I loved everything about it. And the bite that I had of the caprese was amazing as well.
Time to put any semblance of health away - bring on the cheese! My second side selection was the 1/4 Macaroni and Cheese. You kind of can't come to this place without getting their famous mac & cheese. It's pretty much a thing of legend at this point, and for good reason. Luckily, they offer this tiny 1/4 pound box should you prefer, like I did, for your meal to consist of other things as well. It's ultra-cheesy and there are peas in it. You know, for health. I love this mac & cheese because it is loaded with real gooey cheese and not just a thick sauce. Take a tray of it home for your loved ones.
Finally my main course, Le Batman (Bacon, avocado, tomatoes). They have six different grilled cheese sandwiches to choose from, including a poutine grilled cheese (if you feel like killing yourself). I liked the sounds of Le Batman because everything on it is stuff that I love. This sandwich totally delivered! Not only was it grilled to a perfect crunchy and golden brown, but the cheese was cheesy, the bacon was super crisp, and the avocado and tomato worked so well. Tomato just belongs in grilled cheese sandwiches always. So excellent!
I loved every part of this meal! And surprisingly, I didn't feel like crap after eating it because the ingredients are all pretty top-notch. The value is great too. Their truck will always be a go-to, but I have to say that the casse croute was the perfect cheese experience.

Sometimes you just crave cheese! Le Cheese Food Truck has got to be one of Montreal’s best food trucks and definitely the most popular since spring 2013. As of June 14, 2014 they have now opened up Le Cheese snack shop on Monkland Avenue, serving all their cheesy treats and you no longer have to chase down the location of their truck on any given day on Montreal streets when your cheese craving is very strong.

Sometimes you just crave
cheese! Le Cheese Food Truck has got to be one of Montreal’s best food trucks
and definitely the most popular since spring 2013. As of June 14, 2014 they
have now opened up Le Cheese snack shop on Monkland Avenue, serving all their
cheesy treats and you no longer have to chase down the location of their truck
on any given day on Montreal streets when your cheese craving is very strong.

This was the case this
particular night when Brains and I were in the mood for something cheesy.
Having tried the grilled cheese from the truck at the Big food truck rally at
the Esplanade of the Big O, last fall. I wanted to take Brains to try other
items from their menu. I had heard their Mac’n’cheese was to die for.

So we headed to NDG on the
trendy Monkland Avenue to try Pascal Salzman’s new shop.  The place is unpretentious; a narrow local
painted white with yellow hanging lighting and a huge blackboard on one wall.

The decor is clean and
crisp and not fussy. You will find a few long table and banquettes on one side
and some tables for two under the huge blackboard that house their daily
specials.  On a busy night, seating may
prove difficult. At the back is the kitchen with a counter where you can order
your tasty treats that were brought to our table on this quiet night.

This evening we wanted to
sample a few items. Their Mac n cheese was priority. I started with their
cheesy creamy tatter tots and aioli sauce on the side, and Philly sandwich
combo at $12.18. The tots were perfect crispy deep fried potato pockets but
meltingly soft on the inside. The best I have ever had. The Philly sandwich
came on a soft pannini with house coleslaw, not heapingly full but not messy
either. The flavor was good and it did the trick. Satisfyingly enough.

We also ordered ¼ lb Mac n
cheese for $ 4.35 that came in a takeout container, the smallest size .Their
Mac and cheese can be ordered at three different sizes and prices range, $17.00
dollars for ½ lb to, 1 lb at $ 23.00 for those hungry eaters. Filled to the
brim, it was enough for two people to sample. The Mac n cheese was delicious
with pieces of bacon and peas, it was the right consistency.  Light and not overly creamy, but the taste
overwhelming good. Brains favorite is the poutine a must have for $ 6.96.  Also served in a takeout container, it had
copious amounts of cheese curds, the fries were not laden with oil, the gravy
just the right amount.

What is great about Le Cheese is that you can have your favorites just the way you like them. Flexibility
in their menu is optimal. They serve any of your favorite classic sandwiches,
with choices of soup, salad, potatoes or pasta.

You can add to those, bacon,
onions, pesto, steak or peppers, creating your own specialities. I say be
creative, go all out and try something different. You will be surprised at the
flavors.  Anything goes at Le Cheese.

May 2, 2015 / by zuuchini / in food , Montreal , restaurant review / Post Comment For the actual celebration of Mr.Butter’s birthday, I had planned a little hike on Mount-Royal to be forthcoming about the evening’s destination… Yes, this is it! Le Cheese. It was on Mr.Butter’s wishlist for about 2 years now. We had tried to find their food truck, but never succeeded. The menu is simple and we easily ordered 80% of the menu. Misunderstood their menu description, I thought this Philly cheese steak sandwich would be served like a grilled cheese. No worries, it was delicious although the structure of the sandwich could be improved. The fillings and sauce were dripping everywhere. Some like it messy, but I like it clean. I could only imagine how much more amazing it would be in a grilled cheese! The tater tots were great. I expected them to be greasy. Surprisingly, I couldn’t taste the excessive oil. Definitely, one of the best tater tots so far. However, it’s not in the must list to order. The mac n cheese was well balanced. It was not the typical mac n cheese where it would be overly cheesy. So those that expect it to be that way will be disappointed. But because of this factor, it was very addictive and not heavy at all. I loved the little bits of green peas here and there. The macaroni was al dente, unlike some mac n cheese which I found too mushy. The staaaar has come to the table! This Poutine grilled cheese was the bomb. It was heavy but the satisfying kind. I didn’t feel disgusted and only felt eating more. The toast was crisp and able to hold the filling without fault. The tomato soup was nothing out of the ordinary but suited the meal so well, very comforting. I felt like a 5 years old. And behold, I just hit 2 birds with 1 stone. Mr.Butter wanted to try Trou de Beigne and there it was, served at Le Cheese. This Maple Bacon donut was entirely enjoyed by Mr.Butter. He said it was li

Amazing place! The owners/cooks are really cool guys. The mac & cheese was the best I ever had, gooey and caramelized to perfection. The tomato soup was also incredibly good! It's worth it.
