It is not always an easy task to find a good Peruvian restaurant. Discovering this little gem, tucked away in a corner of the underground mall was a delightful surprise.
The menu is rather simple: a selection of about 10 gourmet sandwiches that can be turned in to meal by adding some yuka fries or salad. Being a sucker for fried chicken, I decided to try the Sandouchon Chifa; which had crispy chicken, hoisin sauce, chop chop salad and sweet potato chips.
The meal was handed to me on a wooden board – I was already very impressed with the presentation. The Yuka fries were a refreshing change from the regular fries or sweet potato fries that you generally get with a meal. The accompanying spicy sauce gave it the perfect kick. However, I noticed that as the fries cooled down, they became a bit heavy and starchy. So they are best consumed hot.
The moment I bit into the sandwich, I had made up my mind: this is one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time! Every single component of the sandwich contributed to its exceptional. The bun was toasted perfectly, the crispy sweet potato chips added just the right amount of crunch to complement the mushy chop chop salad. The star of the sandwich was of course the crispy chicken drenched in hoisin sauce.
My only criticism about the sandwich is that it is super messy to eat! From the very first bite, everything started dripping all over the place and I had to rush to grab extra napkins. I figured out that the problem is the chop chop salad: it was too watery. If they make it less watery, the sandwich would be a lot less messy to eat. Regardless, I did not let the mess keep me from devouring every morsel of it!
What a lovely surprise this place was. In a strip mall gourmet peruvian burgers - ranging through duck heart, chicken, beef, pork, fish all with excellent sauces.
A delicious and reasonable value experience. Do try it and be adventurous - the duck heart was awesome. MB rating 8/10.
