Best cronuts in town hands down ! The cookie dough is off the hook too. Next i need to try their cupcakes 👀👌.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was invited for a second time to Simplement D Liche. Dson't mind if I do! Desserts and me are a match made in heaven. GOOD desserts and me? OUT of this world!. I went there with ma work mate Vick, because she's also cray about desserts. I was meeting one of the owners, Robert. I've already talked about their awesome, clean lookin', pure white decor so I won't go into details here. It's very inviting and when you walk in, you see all their creations and, suddenly, you're drooling. Like, a lot.
Cupcakes were a really big thing a few years ago. Now, not as much. (Donuts stole their thunder.) However, you can still find delicious cupcake shops! Nothin’ wrong with tiny cakes with icing on top, that’s for sure. This particular shop can be found in the Plateau and they also sell their products in various other cafes and restaurants around town. I heard about D Liche Cupcakes in Cult MTL’s Student Survival Guide 2014-2015, Student Survival Guide 2015-2016, and Student Survival Guide 2016-2017 calling them a go-to place for Sweets + Desserts.
We popped into the shop on a Saturday afternoon and found that the place wasn’t busy at all, although other customers did come and go. It’s certainly more of a pick-up type of operation, but they do have a large marble slab table should you opt to eat in. Which we did.
The location is rather large for a cupcake shop and they have an entire wall filled with products such as decorations, party items, and teas. Their front windows are adorned with elaborate and seasonally appropriate displays.
They have a cafe menu with several different beverage options and boast that their coffees and teas are from local Montreal companies. I was happy to see a Chai Latte on the menu and ordered that. This chai was actually very good! I’m not sure why this came as a surprise. The drink was hot, creamy, and full of delicious spice. I liked that the flavour was fairly bold and not watered down. I’ve had many worse chais than this one.
Obviously the “thing” to order at D Liche is cupcakes, although they do serve a few other baked items. I was sure to pick out some cupcakes but was also intrigued by some of their other tasty looking treats. I ended up with two Cupcakes ($4.10 each) and a Fruit Loop Bar. The cupcakes all come in two sizes, regular and mini. I ordered the regular size but the mini size would be great for sampling the flavours without committing to too much - perfect for the indecisive. This is what they do, so I expected the cupcakes to be really special. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip was an obvious pick for me and the Triple Chocolate looked dark and mysterious. The shop always has about nine different types available each day. They choose these nine from their selection of over 50 different flavours. Among the types that they make are; tomato, zucchini, maple bacon, apple cheddar, chocolate chili, fig and goat cheese, green tea, french toast, chai, and sesame, as well as many others (and many other more typical kinds). Unfortunately none of these unique flavours were in-store on the day that I visited. I really love that they’re not afraid to experiment and are willing to try making some wacky cupcakes! It’s easy to make the kinds that everyone would expect.
I ate the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip first. I really enjoyed the wonderful peanut butter icing, which tasted perfect. So peanut buttery and good! The cake on the other hand was a little bit less impressive. It seemed small and the white cake was a little bit boring and amature-ish. On the other hand, I really did like the chocolate chips within the cake, which is something that I’ve never seen in a cupcake batter before. As someone who loves anything and everything that combines peanut butter and chocolate, these flavours couldn’t have disappointed me too much.
The Triple Chocolate was almost black in colour, which seemed very interesting. This felt like an “adult” cupcake in that it tasted very much like dark chocolate and was even slightly bitter. I liked the cake in this one a lot better because it was more moist and delicious. It was plenty of chocolate on top of chocolate on top of chocolate... But that’s never a problem!
I could not have walked away from the Fruit Loop bar! This bar is essentially Rice Krispy cake, except made with Fruit Loops. Genius! I told the person (owner?) working in the store that they should call this treat a “unicorn bar.” This bar was super marshmallowy and gooey but I felt a bit dismayed that the cereal itself almost tasted a bit stale. It could’ve been so magical, but somehow wasn’t as much.
My husband got a Cronut and after having a bite of the deliciously fried batter, this seemed like the best thing that I’d eaten. I didn’t really catch the croissant aspect of it, it was more like a donut with a custard filling (...which is really just a donut?) but it was delicious.
It’s a cute shop and they’ve solidified themselves as one of the best cupcake places in town. I feel like I’ve had better cupcakes in my life, but I am very curious to try some of their more unique and adventurous flavours.
D&G had a celebration and this is what we got. Inside, it is red velvet. The taste of the cake is good but the outside of it was tooooooo sweet... At the end we ate the inside not the outside. In anyway, the Care Bears are too cute to be eaten!
The cupcakes here are so good and so cute
Best ones are the chocolate, caramel and peanut butter. The others are amazing to but imo those three are the stand out cupcakes
Try them in mini to see which ones taste best for you and go for the big ones. Found out there are cronuts afterwards definately have to conner back and try em

RĂ©ponse Ă Marie-Michelle Leboeuf. Bonjour Marie-Michelle Leboeuf,
Votre critique semble être d'un compétiteur frustré. C'est évidemment de la mauvais fois :)
Simplement Amazing. These are amazing cupcakes and made by people who are clearly passionate about using the finest ingredients. I asked an employee because I was completely blown away by the presentation--fun and elegant. D Liche is Delightful. The chocolate cupcakes are simply the best I've ever had and I've had cupcakes in many, many different cities. But then again, so are the peanut butter cupcakes, as well as the mocha ones, the vanilla, as well as the fromage à la crême....Beautiful location, a vibrant addition to Saint-Dénis, and I'll have to admit that I've been a few days in a row. A must-go to place if visiting Montréal.
Response to Nicky G. Hi NIcky, we are sorry that you did not enjoy our cupcakes. We bake fresh everyday using only the best ingredients to provide a top quality experience for our customers. If you read other reviews here and on other sites you will notice that they are overwhelmingly positive. Our regular sized cupcakes start at $3.75. With taxes the total comes to $4.31. When you order 6 or more the price falls to $3.33 (no taxes applicable). We have been asked by several people top open in Toronto because of their experience with our products. We hope that the next time you're in Montreal you'll be able to stop by and try another flavor. We'd be pleased to see you again.
best,
Simplement D Liche
