I haven’t been here in many years but I’ve been here many times. My favorite is the Leek and Potato soup, the garlicy salad that they serve Reconstructed back together like a whole head of lettuce but the sauce is distributed all over the leaves…very cool and delish if you love garlic. Then for dessert, I’d share one of those thin crepes with the crispy edges that are wickedly good with ice cream and warm apples. Sorry no photos…will have to go back.

One of my favorite places in Montreal, hands down. The food is delicious, expertly yet subtly prepared, and the definition of "comfort food". I live in NYC, but my wife is from Montreal and this is a must-visit spot for us every time we visit. The atmosphere hasn't changed in years, if not decades, and I hope it stays the same forever. The nostalgia runs deep here. There is no "concept" here and that is refreshing. It's just good, delicious food served by nice, wholesome people. The onion soup is spot-on and as good as it gets. The salad is exceptionally simple and fresh; I don't know what the garlic dressing is made out of, but it's completely addictive. The last time I was there, my friend's 8-year old son was even asking for third and fourth servings (no joke). The escargot is elegant and will warm your stomach. And then of course there are the crepes. I am partial to the one filled with champignon, bechemel, and cheese; drizzle it with a little Canadian maple syrup and you have basically just lived your best day. Get over to Ty-Breiz and get down to enjoying simple pleasures in life.

Probably the best French Onion soup Montreal has to offer. This place looks like your grandma’s house, if she never renovated after 1960. The menu has a lot to offer, ranging from Frog Legs to Nutella Crêpes (those are the really really thin pancakes). A true Montreal institution.

At first I was surprised that the crêpe wasn't as soft as the ones I use to eat, indeed it was crispy...but it was amazing! I had a simple one with only Nutella inside and it's been a real cuddle!

French onion soup fantastic. Crepes were wonderful. Although they were just about to close, they got our order in and it was good.

I had crepes here twice and they were alright ( maybe 3 out of 5). But I gave this place 5 stars for incredible service and the best French onion soup I have ever tried. Now I won't eat onion soup anywhere but here!

Where's the Ice-Cream ? (Surprise) Better than in France !!! As a native Parisian, it hurts my pride to say this but here it is: these may be the BEST crepes I've ever tasted. I mean, I have not been to the Brittany region yet (where crepes originally hail from) but I think this "Britanny-creperie" in Montreal is better than anythign I remember trying in the rest of France. Given that this is the second creperie in Montreal which impressed me this much, I am starting to wonder: have the pupils surpassed the masters? Has Quebec beaten France at the game we invented ? Either way, I warmly recommend this place. It's still a family-run business and you feel more like stepping into someone's home than a restaurant. I ordered a chestnut crepe with ice cream. Once the crepe was brought to me, I wondered where the ice cream was. Then, once I tasted a bit of it, what a surprise ! They somehow had spread the vanilla ice cream inside the folded crepe. It was a uniquely delicious experience. I now regret the 6+ times that I had been to Montreal without trying this place (prior to this trip). Make sure to put this on your absolute "to-do" list while you're in town (along with the Poutine and the Canadiens hockey games).
