Drogheria Fine serves as a good reminder that you don't have to blow your budget to eat well in the city! We picked up two boxes of their piping hot gnocchi with chili flakes & parmesan cheese for just $10 (taxes in!), and took a nice long walk to and through Little Italy. Just remember to stop by the bank beforehand – it's cash only.
Drogheria Fine is a small storefront selling sauces, gnocchi and other Italian products on Fairmount. It is the best idea I have seen in Montreal in a while. Stop at the window and your gnocchi are literally served hot in two seconds flat, that is if there is no line up. Take out gnocchi in a take out container. Pure Genius. The cost $5.00 fora generous portion. Pick some up on your way home for a quick lunch or diiner. The sauce is authentic and the gnocchi delicious. They even top it off with some good parmesan cheese. Why does the plateau get all the best places, Kem Coba, Wilensky, Fairmont Bagel and now this. I am jealous.
Soooo yummy! You have to come try these gnocchi and the sauce is perfect too. Stopped here on our food tour and it was a lot of peoples favourite stop.
On y va:
-pour acheter de la sauce tomate
-pour manger sur place des gnocchis
Great gnocchi in tomato sauce served out of a shop window. Reasonably priced. What's not to like? Need some olive oil? It's right there.
It's possible they don't use the highest quality Romano cheese to top the dish but they are fast, tasty and authentic.
When we were in Italy we wondered why the concept of fresh pasta to go didn’t exist in Montreal. In Venice we found a gorgeous little take out window with the most delicious fresh pasta made on the spot, topped with various sauces that were sent out in little Chinese takeout containers. In Montreal you can grab Chinese food, pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers, even sushi to go, but what about pasta?
Love the mason jar gnocchi.
Perfect quick and delicious meal.
Sauce is a ten. Love it!
Second location in little Italy at 180 Rue Beaubien E.
There's one thing on the menu at Dhrogheria: gnocchi in tomato sauce. The grocery store known for its house recipe tomato sauce is a featured stop on the Mile End Food Tour. The sauce so popular with locals is available to order at the store as a cooked dish to eat on the spot or to take home.
The sauce is pretty simple: tomatoes, olives, salt and basil. It's a mild tangy sauce that tastes quite strong covering a soft gnocchi. If you want a little kick to it ask for some of the pepper blend to add to the sauce.
It's an enjoyable plate if you're in the area and a nice take home gift if you're visiting.
