The Hering in Rahm was a soused herring served with a sour cream apple salad. The last time I had had had fish served like this was at Aragvi, a Georgian restaurant, which I had had with fondness. I enjoyed this Hering in Rahm dish too.
Old Country Inn offers large portions for a decent price. You can order a plate and easily share between two people. The Schnitzel here is delicious!
I ordered the Holstein Schnitzel for something different. It came with a fried egg and anchovies on top. The egg yolk was not runny, which came as a bit of a disappointment to me. The overcooked egg had a slight rubbery texture. However, the eggy flavour went well with the schnitzel and the anchovy on top.
My mom's Cordon Bleu Schnitzel and my cousin's Jager Schnitzel were delectable too.
Their sauerkraut and red cabbage were super tasty.
The only problem was they apparently ran out of broccoli that day. The schnitzel is usually served with potatoes and vegetables with a cheese sauce. Instead of broccoli, they were going to serve cooked carrots. The server was honest and notified us of this beforehand. Thank goodness! She was super understanding and subbed the cooked carrots for sauerkraut instead.
For dessert, I ordered the Eiskaffee. Its practically the Austrian version of an Affogato. I was expecting this tiny little ramekin with a stingy scoop of ice cream and a shot of coffee but it came in a huge sundae glass with whipped cream on top. It was creamy and delicious. Eiskaffee was the perfect way to end a delightful meal.
Fair price for great, authenric European food, just like the ones I have had in Europe. Good portion. Nice environment. The beef liver is good and unique. Just a little too greasy.
