Wass has amazing food! I would highly recommend giving it a try if you like a bit of spice and something different. I am vegan and can never get enough of their Shiro Wat (spicy chickpea stew) and Veggie Platter. Injera, which is a slightly sour, spongy bread, tastes so good with everything. You can also ask about gluten-free injera. We love it!
Great dining experience! This is not an establishment to go to if you're looking to just eat, it's for those wanting to dine. The wait is longer than most places because they prepare their dishes and coffee with extensive labor. The food is wonderfully seasoned and uses wholesome ingredient that keeps you full all day. We also had the Coffee ceremony which I highly recommend! The owner was able to explain their history and culture to us at the ceremony and the steps. It was an enlightening experience. If you're interested in new cultures and new dining experiences this is truly a great place to go! We will be sure to return!
Absolutely Fantastic - in spite of Mick the snowflake!
Can't wait to eat here and try all they have to offer. Should be a wonderful dining experience.
I had never have Ethiopian food until I tried this place! How did I miss this delicious cusuine!! I was amazed by the flavour in the food. I've ordered the vegetarian platter even though I love meat. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the dish!
It was lunch special and I did take-out. It was still big portion for me for my lunch so, I saved it to add it to my dinner.
I would definitely go back and try meat platter this time!
The food and service here is outstanding. I have never had a bad meal. Very well priced, and amazing spices. Really worth giving a try. The Lamb and Chicken dishes are just amazing. My wifes favourite place to go in the city. A unique experience.
Okay everyone, put down your forks. This is food you eat with your hands! My boss offered to treat me to lunch a few weeks ago and suggested Ethiopian food. He said he knew of a great place downtown that had a pretty kick ass lunch special. I’d never tried Ethiopian food before, but I’m always up for trying something new – and lets be honest, free lunch? YEAH! Initially, he ordered the meat combo lunch special but in a miscommunication, we ended up with vegetarian option instead. It really wasn’t a big deal to us and plus, we were too hungry to turn back and order again anyway. I’m actually really glad we ended up with the vegetarian combo. I love variety when eating a meal. I prefer to have at least three different things on my plate that I can nibble from, varying in texture, spice and flavour. The vegetarian option allows you to taste the many delicious flavours Ethiopian food has to offer. The lunch combos come served on whats called Injera, a raw, flat sourdough bread made from whole grain products. It’s light and airy and soaks up the sauces perfectly. The vegetarian comes packed with collard greens sauteed with red onions, cabbage with carrots and potatoes, lentils with garlic, ginger and onion sauce, yellow split peas, a lentil stew and beets to finish it off. It’s a beautiful medley of flavours all wrapped up together. The beets and garlic offer a tangy bite and the rich nutty flavour of the lentils is wonderfully paired. The varying textures in this dish provide you with an exciting dining experience. The chilled beets are refreshing while the collard greens and cabbage provide a satisfying, juicy crunch. The warmth and creaminess of the lentils bring a welcome substance to the meal. Overall, this combo will make any vegetarian smile!
Amazing food. I brought my friends to try Ethiopian food for the first time and they recalled loved it! Food was fresh made, good quantity and just delicious. Definitely recommend IT to anyone who has an appetite for delicious food!!!!
Delicious!!!!. The food was so different then anything I've ever tried and it was amazing!! Too hard to explain al the different tastes you experience but happily for my husband there was no curry at all (he hates curry)... I may have to make this a monthly thing!! Defiantly worth a try if you want to try a totally different but delicious restaurant!!!!!.
Craving it everyday. Love the amount of food given which equal for the price you pay. Have been coming for the past 2 years and will continue. It is the most authentic Ethiopian restaurant I have been too. Keep up the good work.
Great place to eat and plenty of food. We ordered the meat and veggi combo platter.
Loved it!. My husband is a chef and often hard to please when we go out to eat. This was a new dining experience for us, as we are both unfamiliar with Ethiopian food. The place was clean and comfortable and the owner was very friendly. He greeted us when we arrived and came to our table to explain the food. We decided to share a meat and vegetarian platter, so we could sample a little of everything. The food was nicely spiced and absolutely delicious! It was a little messy using the injera instead of utensils, but that is half the fun. We both really enjoyed eating there (it says a LOT when my husband is happy with the food) and definely will be going back soon! Great experience!
Food fragrance!. The wonderful smell of good food lingers in the air at Wass. So your salivary glands get going in expectation. Then the meal arrives, and it gets even better. The food is so flavourful and satisfying. The meals here trigger the comfort food vibe.
I’ve been to Wass several times and have never been disappointed. The food is always incredible and the gentleman that serves us is always so grateful and wonderful too. I was introduced to this restaurant years ago and have continued to bring new people with me who also love it too! Thanks for existing and being great. Their vegan options are unreal! Enough to share for the platter as seen in my photo.
Great experience. It was our first time in an Ethiopian restaurant and we found a very welcoming environment. They were kind and provided great service with suggestions of what to order. For a family of 4, we ordered the Meat combo with vegetarian plus an extra veggie dish (Yemiser Wat). Amazing taste and good portions. We could sample pretty much everything in the menu. The cottage cheese was a great surprise too! I am curious about the coffee ceremony. That's for next time! I highly recommend!
Such a great time! The food was absolutely delicious (we had a meat + vegetarian platter). It was more than enough for the two of us and great value.
The restaurant space was lovely and our server was a delight. Very helpful, kind and speedy. We'll be back soon!
I’ve been craving Ethiopian food for a while, and since I am visiting Hamilton for Canada day I had to find the best spot in town! Luckily I looked up google, and found this gem of a place. The food is exceptional!!! I was craving Doro wat for a while, and the one I had here is beyond words. The food is flavorsome, and reminded me of my childhood. The service is great, and the staff is super friendly. I'd definitely recommend it to those who are looking for new delicious experiences.
TIBS! Ethiopian food was something my friends and I bonded over but we haven't been in years. Discovering Wass was great, and it did not disappoint. The food was incredible and the service was friendly. For seven people we ordered three combination plates (Tibs, Dora Wat, and the Wass Special) and it was more than enough. 11/10 would recommend!
If you like 🇪🇷Eritrean/Ethiopian🇪🇹 food, you will love this spot! I can't emphasize enough how FRESH the ingredients are. The flavors are well balanced and not too spicy. This one dish (Tibbs + Veggie Combo) was enough for 2 ppl. Service was great and am happy to have stumbled across this restaurant.
Absolutely delicious, and beautiful presentation! Exceeded all my expectations which were already high from the good reviews ☺️ We ordered a combo platter, a great way to get a taste of many dishes, and more than enough for two people.
🌟 I am so glad this place is open again!! Perfect food, perfect service. Gentle, friendly, attentive server and just really delicious and healthy food. Packed with vegetables and green protein. Beets, cabbage, dark leafy greens, beans, lentils, etc.
🌟 Me and my friend both got the Vegetarian Combo Platter (it is actually vegan!!) and it was fresh, well seasoned, well prepared, full of flavour, and incredibly priced.
🌟 This place is a precious gem of gems. This place is one of the last authentic small business-restaurants in the city. This place will make your skin glow, it will improve your credit score, it will make your parents proud of you and it will make your pet live forever and never die
