Not your standard set up for a restaurant. More of a relaxed put your order in and serve yourself. Works well for the layout of the establishment. I enjoyed their selection of beer on tap, not a big selection but some local quality.
The food itself was very good. I enjoyed the fried chicken, not greasy like fast food restaurants and the sausage was very tasty. I found the fries nice and crispy but not overdone and the ribs were very tender with lots of meat. They had an eat in special for their Rib and wing (or chicken) combo for 16$. Well worth the price. The beans were pretty standard faire with some pulled meat mixed in, tasty but nothing special. Only disappointment was that there were no cornbread buns to be had as they were still baking. We will just have to return again to try them!
Always amazing food and service! Recent new owner took over and he made sure to stop in and ask each guest how their meal was. The crew is the kitchen are all super friendly and clearly passionate what they make. We initially went to hambrgr next door but the wait was 30-40 minutes so we stopped here, got a seat and beers almost as soon as we walked in. Happy to support local, you've gotta check out southern smoke while on Ottawa. Will not disappoint 💯💯

I want so bad to give you 5 stars because the food was freaking amazing. The portions are definitely large and so delicious! My friend took me here for my birthday lunch and she was bouncing around like a kid in a candy store waiting for our meal.
We started by being served by a lady who asked if she could start us with water.... time went by and no water. She came to take our order and stillno water. We didnt want to rush her or anything so waited, then our food came and it was the cook who actually served us. She didnt say she was leaving or anything, and the cook was left on his own. I wish I got his name. He was so sweet and amazing! My friend went and got our water for us finally after we realized she wasnt coming back.
Our food was nothing but awesome. Redneck poutine is exactly what we needed, neither of us finished. The amount of meat on this, seriously people, beats the living hell out of Smokes, Curds, ONiels and everywhere in between!!
But seriously... give the cook a raise and remind your server to let her tables know that she is leaving the floor. No one wants to bother a cook while they are crafting your food to eat and really, but we understand that people need breaks too.
*** I am completely and utterly shocked you are closed at 9pm on a friday!! Oh man!!! Consider one more hour!!!
