Wonderful food and Great people!!. Not only does this café have great food but the owner and staff are wonderful, kind hearted, REAL PEOPLE that treat ALL OF THIER CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME RESPECT(not only those that obviously have money) and courtesy. I don`t know why TAOQUEEN has a problem with this (probably wants to pretend that homelessness and poverty don`t exist or just DOESN`'T want it any where near her, as if "THOSE HOMELESS LOOKING PEOPLE" are offending her with their very presence.
I Like going to this café almost three times a month. Love the food, the atmosphere and the real connection to the world. Wish all people would treat EVERYONE like the owner and staff of this café do....AS EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS THAT DESERVE RESPECT AND DIGNITY.
If you like great food and fast, friendly service I would recommend THE EARLY BIRD for breakfast because as the name implies it`s open early for breakfast!
I went here this morning for breakfast after reading some reviews on UrbanSpoon and was pleased. I had the Belgian waffle with blueberries, which came with fresh whipped cream. My friend had the weekday special, which was very well priced at five dollars and included coffee or tea. Overall, the service was good, the owner was very friendly and attentive, and the food was good classic breakfast fare. The atmosphere was friendly enough that we stayed after our meal was done and drank coffee. I would come here again for a nice quiet breakfast.
Really friendly owner, clean and cheap with nice breakfasts. Belgian waffles with blueberries are massive and tasty, only $2.95 too!
Greasy spoon done right!. The Early Bird is a tiny little treat. With only a dozen or so tables and a grill-side bar, 'cozy' doesn't capture the small size of this venue. The menu offers a wide variety of familiar western breakfast and family dishes. Prices - again, nothing too unusual.
The hint that there might be more comes as much from the staff as a anything else - they're a number of young people who obviously are having fun with their business. Better, they care about their food.
Servings are large, everything is prepared on the spot and given you essentially are in the kitchen, the entire process could not be more transparent. I've had burgers, sandwiches, and a variety of breakfasts. All arrive fast, hot, and tasty, simple mixes of fresh, simple ingredients. Service is excellent.
This place is so tiny it might as well be a secret, but I know it's getting a well deserved reputation with those of us who work nearby. Everything is simple, but sometimes simple is all ones needs.
Well worth the visit. The Early Bird is the antidote to the chain breakfast and burger establishments - and in that sense I hope it never changes.
I've tried most of the menu, and have never been displeased, mostly impressed. Everything is reasonably priced, great tasting, and somethings are cheaper then you'd expect. Cook is actually owner, and takes pride in what he does. As long as his door is open, i'll be eating there 2-3 times a week for the foreseeable future.
The food is fresh, generous portions, and tasty. The decor is FUN if you let it be - right now there are Marvel comics and SpiderMan posters up! Hey relax, have a coffee and some toast.
The acceptance of all is this cafe's 5-star secret - not everyone has had the fortune in life to be an upscale Canada Place or court house employee - notice that the city and the world are made up of a variety of people, all colours and abilities and with varying degrees of luck. Count your good fortunes if you can afford anything you want on the menu, be friendly, and maybe even treat everyone in the place to a glass of juice.
OnePlanetOneHumanRace.
Great food.
But perhaps it should be mentioned that homeless or people down and out eat here. Card games at every table, and a spare electric razor behind the counter to borrow.
I have been going for the Breakfast Special for over 2 years now. Always top notch. Good value.
If I'm eating there it's well worth the effort! ! ! !
