Went for a quick bite and drink before going to the Princess for a movie. We didn't have much time so ordered the nachos and pretzels. Beer was reasonably priced. The nachos for two was huge and loaded with toppings. Very good, my friend took the pretzels to go since we were in a hurry. Glad I stopped in for a bite.
Update December 31st Staff was not very attentive. They hung out at the bar talking instead of attending to us.
When we got here on a Sunday night and the place was completely dead... we ordered the Mac and cheese and I ordered the spinach dip to start. Honestly, I thought the food was okay. Nothing too great. The server informed me that the restaurant was undergoing a big change in management, etc. I'd be quite willing to have another go at this place and see what they come up with to bring it back. What I did really like about this place was the atmosphere. I feel like this is a great place to grab a bite to eat and a few drinks with friends after a grueling day at work.
Stopped for drinks tonight's. Martinis, and beer flights for the tables. Sat outside on the patio on a great Alberta weather night. Service is great.
My boyfriend and I went to Pourhouse for a late lunch on Saturday. Unlike many other restaurants along Whyte Ave, we were able to sit right away. The interior design of the restaurant makes it a cool, yet comfortable space, however what made the Pourhouse so inviting this particular afternoon was the friendly, and charismatic owner (man with suspenders). He was extremely attentive, waiting if he could tell we needed more time with the menu and appearing as soon as we had decided. He gave us a complimentary appetizer and dessert to share, which were both delicious. I had the lamb burger, and my bf had the Montreal smoked sandwich which were both perfectly prepared, and presented and tasted fantastic! Overall if you are looking for a solid meal in a unique yet cozy atmosphere then Pourhouse is a great choice! They are having St. Pattys day celebration so maybe this Thursday would be a good time to try it out!
Good food, great atmosphere. Only quibble was when I went in just after they opened and none of the 4 people at my table had a fully cooked potato. Even after the waitress took them back to the kitchen for a while they came back pretty raw. I assume the cook had come in a bit late and hadn't get ten the spuds in the oven early enough to have them ready for service. These things happen. Other than that small misstep I have always been happy with my meals here.
An overlooked gem if you're looking for top-notch pub food. Have been twice, and both times it was quiet inside which I found so surprising since the food is great and the drinks even better.
Definitely recommend the short rib burger and the macaroni salad.
Love the decor inside, always something to look at.
Recently visited to try their new menu. The food was great. Well thought out and well executed. It's pub food with a creative twist. While the food is great, I do find the beer menu to be a little pricey. That said, I'm sure being a locally owned business on whyte ave requires the prices they set. Would definitely come more often if the beer was a little cheaper.
Had a great time! Nice atmosphere, food, and the our server(Jeremy) was awesome :) The lobster dip is amazing.
Overall enjoyable. We were here on a Thursday, with advertised specials for "ladies"...however, the manager didn't want to offer the specials to the ladies at our table because there were men with us. Our server made certain we did get the specials, though, so no big deal.
We tried most of the appetizers on the menu and were quite happy with all of them. The roulade, pulled pork nachos, and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus were favourites, although there were fans of the pretzel and the lamb meatball as well. Solid pub food and a bit more interesting than the fried-everything options in similar places thanks to their lack of a deep fryer.
The beer selection is varied and our server knowledgeable when asked for recommendations, and I especially enjoyed the beer cocktail selection - very creative.
I think the ambiance leaves a little to be desired, as it does have a kind of cafeteria feel that would probably be improved by mellower and less industrial lighting.
In summary, the food was quite good, the drink menu is great, our service was excellent (despite being a large party who did not all arrive together) , but the atmosphere is a bit lackluster.
Amazing service. We came for a party and had reserved seats that were not cleared out when we got there. They bought us a round when we were very quickly seated following.
Service was awesome and the drinks were great. I will be coming back again!!
