Shanghai Grill is one of those places where you wished it was just $2 cheaper for each main dish because it's actually pretty good, but overpriced. We had the jelly fish, green beans, Shanghai dumplings, and wor tip dumplings. The jelly fish was nicely flavored with some pickled sourness, and spice (more on the south side than the spicy side). The Shanghai dumplings was very clean: it wasn't overly salty, packed with soup and meat, clean pork taste and there wasn't a thick tip from the wrap. The wor tip dumplings were more or less the same! If there was some sort of fresh herbs in the meat, it would've been even better. Green fried beans had a nice crunch and also not very salty. Overall, the meal was good and clean since not everyone can take oily foods. The only deterrent is the price.
I was here at a random time in the afternoon (1400hrs.) Only one there so they were quick to seat me and take my order.
The medium bowl of Hot and sour soup yileds at least 6-8 servings ($18) and the pork XLBs were flavourful and tasty ($7). the skin on the sides and bottom were thin and chewier and stickier at the top making it tough to take a bite w/o all of it sticking to your mouth. The broth was nice and I didn't require any vinegar to enjoy the dumplings. The XLBs did take longer to come out (15-20 mins) as they make them per order.
Ambiance is great
Staff are very friendly
Food not salty, i would say no msg. But very tasty. Yummylicious!
Price is $$$. I will definitely come back here. 2nd best xiao long bao in the city.
