I've been on a patisserie hunt recently - especially hole-in-the-wall, hidden gem types - and I decided to give Passion de France a try.
It's on the east side of 118th Ave just between 97 and 82nd St. Definitely wouldn't have noticed this patisserie there but it's not hard to find if you're purposely looking for it.
I went in quite early, about 10am, and there was nobody inside. There was a decent amount of pastry selections on the shelf.
I got the lemon meringue tart, lorraine quiche, coffee macaron, and pain au chocolat to bring home. The lemon meringue tart was really good. It's sour, had a very strong lemon taste, and I liked how the filling was not too soft and runny. I've tried some lemon meringue tarts in the past which would get so messy to eat after the first bite because they're so runny.
I didn't try the lorraine quiche but my bf said that it's really good and tastes similar to The Pie Hole's quiche which I absolutely loved.
Honestly, I didn't have any expectations for the macaron because I saw that their macarons are displayed in a plastic packaging (refer to pictures) - as if they're not made in store (I don't know if they are or not). However when I had a bite of it I was impressed by the flavour and how soft it was. It was not stale nor hard, however it's definitely not the best (not as good as Duchess). The coffee flavour is very strong and prominent. I'd guess their other macaron flavours are the same.
The pain au chocolat was really good, just as you would expect it to be. It's not the best pain au chocolat I've tried but it still meets my expectations of what it should be.
Would I go back? Probably, but I'm not in a rush to do so.

Stopped by this quaint bakery for a treat to take home. It was such a difficult choice because of the variety of selections available! My mother picked the red fruit tart and I decided to have the pistachio chocolate cake. The tart was a custard with raspberries, cherries and blueberries in a rich butter pastry. The raspberries had a tartness that balanced the sweetness of the other fruits perfectly . The elegant pistachio cake had a delicious pairing of nut and dark chocolate separated by soft layers of cake and cream...a perfect choice for someone who doesn't want an overly sweet dessert. Also available were a multitude of very beautiful and tasty looking pastries, cookies, and several lunch time options like sandwiches, soup, quiche and crepes. I saw the chef busy in the kitchen and from reading a newspaper article about the shop know that she had difficulty sourcing halal and kosher baking items. In a previous review it was suggested that items were not baked in house, if this is the case I can only assume it was from sourcing issues from early days after first opening. The staff were pleasant and helpfully and gave some great suggestions that helped us make our final choices. We will definitely be visiting again and hopefully enjoying the patio area once it is set up.

You have to try this place!. We had the triple chocolate torte and some macarons and they were all out of this world. I also had an americano with my desserts and it was probably the best americano I've tasted.
Amazing.
The setting is really lovely too. Nestled on 86 st., right across from Eastwood park, the patio will be really pleasant in the summer. My daughter has decided to come here for her birthday and I am looking forward to being a regular here.

Passion De France opened quietly in early December. One isn't likely to drive by it, for this tiny house of baked goods is set back from the main avenue by at least half a block, and separated from the street from a patio's worth of space. Though the front walk is buttressed by heaving snowdrifts now, one can imagine a smart set of patio furniture and umbrellas nodding like heavy-headed sunflowers in the breeze once the northern hemisphere turns back towards the light.  Inside, a tidy and efficient space, dressed in cool mint green and white, breathes the beguiling scent of fresh baking, resplendent in rich butter and sighing with dark chocolate and spices. The display cooler is not yet full, though the menu promises a smattering of sandwiches, quiche and soup. Make no mistake, though; I've come for the baking. Specifically - croissants and macarons. Though I must confess to have never been in Paris (neither the French nor Ontarian locals, though I suspect the latter holds to a different standard of baked goods), a journeyman baker once explained to me that a real croissant - a real one and not the questionable supermarket variety - ought to make a mess when eaten. For all those glorious strata of butter, so lovingly layered throughout the dough, transform via some sort of culinary alchemy into a shattering mess. Yes, one bite ought to send croissant shards e

French pastries at a reasonable price. It’s a small place but that’s not a problem because the quality is excellent. Love the individual pies and the Maple butter tart. The ambiance is great and the staff is friendly and courteous. This is a hidden gem right in the heart of Alberta Ave. You have to visit for the great deserts and coffee. There is also an excellent selection of middle eastern pastries.

Delightful little bake shop around the corner... literally! Chicken pie was perfectly flaky and seasoned, while the Chocolate Almond pastry was delicately balanced. You can taste the TLC.

I have come to this little nook in my travels a handful of times and I have enjoyed every visit. It is nice to have a taste of France in my backyard. The treats offer me a new delight every time I am here, satisfying my inner adventurer with such wonderful flavors and experiences. With most of the items being in house made, it is nice to support a unique bakery in my community. The customer service is pleasant and cheerful and they have been very accommodating with me with evert visit. Like all places there is room for improvement. Some of the chairs, albeit full of character, can me made to be more comfortable as they have seen better days. But all in all a very nice treat for me and I hope for your travels too.

I adore this restaurant! They serve decent dishes, they have a nice menu, The cook in that place is a specialist, I love very much tasting all their food. The food is always fresh and tasty, the service towards the guests is very good too. I often go to this place and I was never unhappy. I highly recommend it.

A small tucked away family bakery. You can see that the owners tried really hard to make it a French cafe, and it's so charming inside. Friendly staff as well The prices are pretty good, the croissants were okay. I'm sure I've been watching too many baking shows but the lamination wasn't there for the the croissants (Great British Baking Show anyone?). Same for the pain au chocolat. One last thing is I was expecting the smell of baking, of butter and decadence, and it wasn't there. It smelled like flowers, it cleanser but not baking.
