THE place in south for vermicelli. A quaint (read small) place in a strip mall so we do take out. Our go to - cashew chicken wok which has a bit of kick or a five colour bowl (4 protein plus 2 spring rolls). Cooked to perfection every time and our only disappointment has been when we have a craving and find them closed for vacation.
This is a nice little café in southeast Edmonton. I found it to be clean and friendly. I ordered the Pho 3 Bo. It had lots of beef. The soup wasn't very spicy but she brought out hot sauce so I could add as much as I desired. My guest ordered Pho Ga which is like a pho soup but made with chicken. We arrived before noon so there was no waiting. At noon there was a line-up at the order counter so the locals must really like this café. I noticed some other plates being brought out that looked especially good so I plan to return before long. I think that they deserve a 4 out of 5.
First impression is this place is overrated.
Very tiny restaurant. The process of ordering your food is somewhat similar to MacDonald's or Burger King. Order, pay, then sit down and wait. The small tables were not a problem at all. Kind of a fast food atmosphere.
My food review is based on the Sate soup only.
We had the Sate soup, as I mentioned, one chicken and one beef. Extra spicy.
The soups came to the table and the first impression was the bowls were not very big. Second impression was the soup was well below the brim. (See attached picture.) Hate that.
The quantity of beef and chicken were small, but the broth was very good. Very flavourful and in my opinion could compete with middle best Vietnamese restaurants, but not the top (I repeat....in my opinion).
The quantity is not for big eaters. My wife ate all of hers with ease, which she never does. Myself? I could have eaten two of them.
I give them a 4 for the classic Sate taste, but a 2.5 for value.
