Review Minimango Vietnamese Bistro - Edmonton

I got delivery from here recently and was disappointed that the food was a bit cold by the time it arrived. Some of the food may be much better with a dine-in experience. In terms of food, I tried their Five-Colour Bowl (Beef, Chicken, Pork, Tofu, Prawn) with Coconut rice. Everything tasted fairly nice given that it was cold, but I find it slightly hard to justify the price given the portion.

Nice and cozy place for having Pho. They also have a varieties of menu including spring roll, vermicelli, banh mi, pad Thai, sate soup, etc. The decoration inside is modern and nice to be a place for hanging out with friends. Recommend in Summerside

Got take away here last night for the first time, a friend recommended we try. We got a few different dishes and all of them were delicious!! My kids really enjoyed the spring rolls and chicken fried rice. I got pad Thai and it was so so good. I also ordered a side of salad rolls with shrimp and had them for lunch today, the satay sauce is the best I’ve tried in years. Portions were large and the staff were very polite. Definitely will be back again soon !

We just discovered this gem and tried it for the first time tonight. The place was very busy with take-out orders and as we weren't familiar with how to order (so didn't order ahead) we waited in the restaurant for ours to be ready. As busy as it was, it was a fairly short wait! I have to say that their spring rolls are amazingly delicious (some of the best we've had) and their portions sizes are awesome (I couldn't finish my Pad Thai)! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back for more!

10/10 recommend this place I had tried vermicelli 2 color bowl with spring rolls and grilled pork . It’s Taste really good , and the place also have Vegans food options and so many more good food to try.

Absolutely delicious Mango Salad! Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Many gluten-free options. Many options available for ordering, eat in, take out and order ahead. Thanks for another delicious lunch!! Ordered ahead for dinner takeout. Great attention to detail on orders. 👍👌

Consistently delicious food with great service. We’ve been ordering take out here for years and never been disappointed. Prices have gone up since Covid but that’s everybody. Make sure to order extra rice to go with the saucy curry dishes. Mmm…. So good!!

This is one of our go-to's for staff meeting lunches, we order from here a few times a year. It never disappoints! The Pad Thai and Mango Salad are always delicious and great to share with a group. We have vegetarians and staff with gluten and dairy allergies, so it is great to find a place that can accommodate for that.

I've ordered from Mini Mango for years until I was away for a year...I came back and it seemed like new owners. Tonight I ordered 2 colour vermicelli bowl with chicken and spring rolls -- the chicken was dry as dust! I think I 'll try someplace else next time...

The Bun bo hue is very plain, more like a pho with Thai chilli in the soup. They don’t have Bun bo hue noodle, only can pick from rice noddle or vermicelli. The sandwich is ok, I will say just below average.

THE place in south for vermicelli. A quaint (read small) place in a strip mall so we do take out. Our go to - cashew chicken wok which has a bit of kick or a five colour bowl (4 protein plus 2 spring rolls). Cooked to perfection every time and our only disappointment has been when we have a craving and find them closed for vacation.

This is a nice little café in southeast Edmonton. I found it to be clean and friendly. I ordered the Pho 3 Bo. It had lots of beef. The soup wasn't very spicy but she brought out hot sauce so I could add as much as I desired. My guest ordered Pho Ga which is like a pho soup but made with chicken. We arrived before noon so there was no waiting. At noon there was a line-up at the order counter so the locals must really like this café. I noticed some other plates being brought out that looked especially good so I plan to return before long. I think that they deserve a 4 out of 5.

First time eating at Mini Mango. I was expecting it to be a larger, sit down restaurant but it is small and take-out oriented. I ordered the five-colour vermicelli bowl. The menu price is $13.95 but was charged over $16 before tip. The portion size was pretty good. The noodles and meats were cooked well. I was not fond of the included celery, and the cuts of pepper were too large and awkward for me. Not bad overall, but I have had better vermicelli bowls before.

First impression is this place is overrated.
Very tiny restaurant. The process of ordering your food is somewhat similar to MacDonald's or Burger King. Order, pay, then sit down and wait. The small tables were not a problem at all. Kind of a fast food atmosphere.
My food review is based on the Sate soup only.
We had the Sate soup, as I mentioned, one chicken and one beef. Extra spicy.
The soups came to the table and the first impression was the bowls were not very big. Second impression was the soup was well below the brim. (See attached picture.) Hate that.
The quantity of beef and chicken were small, but the broth was very good. Very flavourful and in my opinion could compete with middle best Vietnamese restaurants, but not the top (I repeat....in my opinion).
The quantity is not for big eaters. My wife ate all of hers with ease, which she never does. Myself? I could have eaten two of them.
I give them a 4 for the classic Sate taste, but a 2.5 for value.

Been meaning to try this place since we moved to the area. Finally made it and was not disappointed. Staff is very friendly and food is amazing. Came in and it was empty by the time we left there were no tables left. Food came quick, hot food hot and cold food cold. Everything was great and I couldn't finish my Pho, it was so filling. Adding mango to the salad rolls took them to a whole new level. If we had room we would have tried one of their unique desserts. Will have to go back in the near future.

5 meat combo. Need I say more. This place is great....wide selection of food choices, pad Thai is also a great choice. They also do large party trays for big gatherings. When in the area it's always a place to go for authentic v-not food. They even have the bun mi - aka delicious Vietnamese subs.

Walking to Mini Mango on a weekday lunch rush, I was greeted with a friendly smile and tons of people waiting for their order. The place looks extremely modern and new on the inside - always a good sign when you first enter it. I ended up settling for a safe item - their pad thai. It's obvious when ordering that this place tries to take you beyond a typical restaurant experience by asking questions such as do you have any allergies or want any substitutions, etc. I also noticed frequent customers talk to the staff and say hi. All great signs of good customer service!

The Pad Thai came out within 10 minutes or so. The portion size was huge. I was starving for lunch and barely finished the dish. The dish was NOT well mixed though. Not a big deal, just a note for people wondering why there's all the meat in one side, followed by the bean sprouts and the egg, and then the noodle. It definitely wasn't the best pad thai I've ever had, but it's a significant upgrade over fast food pad thai and left a satisfying but not too greasy feeling at the end of the meal.

The place had some sit down seats, however most people got their food for take out. This place looks really popular and with the service given combined with the quality and quantity of food, I'll definitely be back to this place. All in all, recommended.

Lots of take out going in here tonight. Store front is clean and busy too. Menu is full of choice. Pick your protein, noodle, rice, and method of cooking. Ordered a five color bowl. Five proteins, noodles, veg, two spring rolls and sauce. Cooked perfectly and arrived fast. Flavors are crisp and fresh. Portion is a good size and a great value at less than $15.

Great food! The the coconut chicken satay sandwich I had was flavourful and satisfying not to mention the great avocado smoothie I had to go with it. Plan on visiting plenty of times more.

My fiance and I ordered a takeout order from Mini Mango last week. I got the green curry with a side of rice and he, the gluten free Pad Thai. There was a few pieces of moldy red pepper in the curry and the gluten free Pad Thai made my normally very tolerant fiance ill. We've been to this establishment before and haven't had any issues. We will not be back again.

Inconsistent and average. Disappointing. The food is never consistent, sometimes the dish will have flavour and spice, sometimes too spicy, sometimes nothing at all. Five colour bowl was disappointing, grilled had no flavour, no spice, nothing but meat and rice. Curried chicken was the consistency of soup, barely any flavour. Canned corn nubs. Portion sizes are never consistent. Still hungry.
Laura
Love this place. Very clean. Quick service and delicious vermicelli bowls. They are very nice people and the food is always piping hot and fresh.

We got take out from Mini Mango last night. We were quite happy with our meal. It was as good if not better then the higher rated Thai restaurants in Edmonton we have tried. We had the Pad Thai, Coconut lemon grass with chicken, Cashew with beef, Coconut rice and salad rolls. Highly recommend the coconut lemongrass dish. It was delicious. Everything was hot, fresh and flavorful. Portion sizes and prices were also decent. If I had to pick on anything the coconut rice was a little blander and dryer then others I have tried. Definitely would try them again when we come back to Edmonton.

Good place for vegetarian food but average place for Vietnamese food in the south. Food selection and presentation of dishes were great. However, the noodle soups (pho) were flavourless, bland, and lacked quality. Their vermicelli bowls are standard and nothing unique. I did enjoy the vegetarian dishes here though. They use good quality ingredients for their vegetarian dishes. Loved the interior of the place as it was clean, warm, modern, and colourful. Service was great. Seating can be limited during busy times of the day and you may not end up with a seat. Overall experience was good.

Have been here a couple times over the year, and although I do like their pad thai (a satisfying fix for thai food cravings in the deep south), their pho is really bland and the broth has no substance to it. I was left very disappointed, and bun bo hue is also just not the same without the thick bun noodles! Their salad rolls were not bad if I remember, but are quite pricey for only 3. Might give their thai food another try, but otherwise not worth it.

I decided to try mini mango out because my boyfriend recommended it to me. Mini mango is a Vietnamese fusion restaurant that serves Vietnamese and Thai food. My brother ordered their pho (there was only one kind and you choose one meet topping). It was relatively cheap, around $8.50. The taste reflected in the price though. The soup was very bland and it tasted like watered down pho bouillon. I ordered their pad Thai (around $15). Their noodles were slightly over cooked and the flavor didn't really resemble pad Thai. It wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't authentic. My mom ordered the green Thai curry which was around $18? This was because we added rice (which was around $3 for a small bowl of plain white rice). Definitely over priced for what it was. And there was nothing particularly special about the taste. Our meal total was $44 for 3 dishes... I didn't think it was worth it, especially since it's the type of restaurant where you order at the front and take a seat then they come to serve you your food. It resembled a fast food type of restaurant to me. Maybe it was their attempt to try to really emphasize on the 'fusion' aspect of it but I felt like each dish was just really bland and overpriced. The only plus I found with this restaurant was their service. The lady was very nice and was quick to explain the menu and ordering methods. She also thanked us for coming in! Friendly service but the food wasn't quite on par. I would recommend coming for a quick bite since their food was served fairly quickly but besides that, I wouldn't recommend it

Good spring rolls. Salad rolls typical. Weird peanut sauce. Pad thai is better at Thai Express on the mall. One gaterade drink with above food znd bill was 32.00. Good service and wuick. Would not come back. Mains are too expensive for lunch.
Mish
Tried the pad Thai it was really good. Not too spicy just a touch. And very large portions, imagine one of those rectangle white takeout boxes filled to the top half.

As always, our lives are made easier when you, our followers write us reviews! We love that you guys support our blog and help us out! Here is a review of Mini Mango by Karla B:. If you like Vietnamese food, the place to try is Mini Mango located in Summerside. A tiny, quaint restaurant. Their fare is friendly to vegetarians, vegans and celiacs and they note any nuts in their foods. I've been going there for a number of years and have never been sick. My favorite is their Pad Thai and Salad Rolls.Recently I ordered GF Salad Rolls and asked for the BBQ pork. The gal took the order into the kitchen and it was checked and they immediately came out to say only the shrimp is GF. Although the one girl didn't know, it didn't get past the kitchen! This makes me feel safe!I have to share this gem with you. They are so good and there are a ton of options!

Been going here for almost two years, probably twice a week. Absolutely THE best food! We usually get 5 color bowl, pad Thai or pho ga. Tried the lemon grass coconut tonight and OH MY GOD! Mind blowing delicious! Piping hot takeout. The salad rolls are a must with every meal!

Worst dinner of the year award. We were at the stripmall wanting to grab some dinner. Never been to this establishment before and we stated this and that we wanted some help ordering. The fellow at the front kept saying "5 colors" which apparently means 5 types of meat. Neither the menu board or the menu were easily legible (we're over 50) Being that we are not gluttons and do not like huge proportions of meat but do love huge amounts of vegetables we ordered the 1 color, chicken, with rice which much to our dismay came with basically nothing but rice and a tiny mound of shredded vegetables that wouldn't please a rabbit. No other vegetable no bean sprouts, no roasted peanuts as stated on the menu. Complained about this and was told that we needed to order vermicelli bowl, not rice bowl, in order to get all the vegetables. I quoted the menu in explaining how it misleadingly states what the rice bowl contains. Now after sitting down we were next to a window (not in the dark ordering corner) and could actually read the menu. To either of us it was subsequently clear that as veggie fans we should have ordered the Wok bowls. None of this was explained to us and we didn't see that page on the menu when ordering. Least helpful service, rude, just walked away saying we were wrong. Never feel like going back. Nobody would be satisfied with the paltry amount of food we had on the plate which with juice for two people was 28dollars. Not exactly cheap. Worse meal than foodcourt Edo.

I got some take out from Mini Mango yesterday and it came exactly how I expected it. I've been going to Mini Mango for a couple years now and the food is consistently above average. It is one of those restaurants that has become somewhat of a "safe bet" when I'm in the mood for pho. There is nothing on the menu that will absolutely knock your socks off, but I've also never had a bad meal there.

Yesterday, my wife and I ordered ginger beef, pad tail, and coconut rice. The meal cost around $30 and there was enough food there to feed us again today. The ginger beef is my favourite. It always has a crispy, light crunch with great flavour. Some might say that it lacks on the amount of sauce, but I however disagree. It provides a more modern sense of slight indulgence. As for the pad thai, it had
a decent flavour with a little heat but overall I would consider it average. It came a little oily, skimpy of the protein, and the chicken was dry. The shrimp however were cooked to perfection. It gets half marks.

Overall, I enjoy the food from Mini Mango. It's a nice comfort place for me.

My Favorite Place in the City. This is by FAR my favorite place in the city. The food is always fresh and they have a wide variety of inspired choices. I've tried a couple of different vermicelli/rice plates and some soups and they have always been delicious. I would recommend paying the small surcharge for the coconut rice as it is always cooked well (which seems to be rare in the city). The ice coffee is also delicious (they use Trung Nguyen, one of my favorite coffees from my trips to Asia.) :)

The only recommendation would be to have smaller options for soft drinks, the 750ml bottles are too large for most individuals. I do enjoy how they have many different flavors of Vitamin Water (my favorite)

LOVE IT!!. This place is amazing. Friendly staff and great food.

Not so good.... Popular place, packed with few seats available- dropped in for a pho. Small portion, weak broth, overpriced. My companion's lemongrass chicken was equally uninspiring, and the wontons were a definite pass. How this place got over 80% in a mystery.

Five Colour Bowl on Vermicelli. Chicken, pork, beef, and prawns and spring rolls served on vermicelli noodles.
Aasood58
Pad Thai. It was not fully cooked. Wa dissapointed with the service as one had heard a lot about the food. When the management was informed about it, they took 10 minutes to decide what to do with it. Finall, it was reheated, but by then had lost my appetite.
Flying Penguin
Excellent food. A tad pricey for portion size but very good.

Staff was very friendly. Seating is a little tight but still doable. Had the Pad Thai, Red curry with a side of rice and Vietnamese Salad rolls. Pad Thai was good but certainly not the best I've ever had. And the curry was quite delicious. Make sure you order some rice to mix with that great curry sauce. The sauce that came with the salad rolls was very mild in flavour, and I found it was alright with the light, clean flavours of the salad rolls. I prefer a richer tasting peanut sauce but it did the trick. Lunch came to about $37 with a couple of drinks and there was a good size meal left to take home. I'm a northsider and would make it back again if I was in the area.

First Time Trial. Ordered for takeout which was friendly and quick service. Both the ginger beef (which was deep fried in a batter ?!?!?) and lemongrass vegetable dishes were very bland and missing the key flavours of these dishes as described in the menu. Seemed that (heavy) salt seasoning was substituted for authentic Vietnamese flavours. Kimchi as well tasted like it came out of a jar. Disappointed and would not re-visit.

I love going to this place! I think I have tried almost everything in the menu LOL. The restaurant is very good, but a bit pricey. Ginger beef, BJ roll, Pad Thai and 5 Colour Bowl highly recommended!!!
Elissea
Don't know what the food tastes like because I've been waiting for 25+ minutes for a sandwich!! And still counting!!
Magnes34
Delicious. I have been coming here since it opened and have had nothing but delightful service and phenomenal food that has almost always been cooked to perfection.
Rajlav12
Horrible food , misleading menu card as it sounds really good but when the dish finally arrives it is pathetic. Service is the worst I have seen in a long long time. Manager is very rude... They need a lesson or two on the importance of service in North America
Steve K
Very ordinary food. The flavour of the sauces are good, yet the veggies and meat is awful. On Sat night, we ordered Cashew Chicken, Red Curry with beef and coconut rice. The flavour of the cashew chicken dish was good, however the sauce was way too oily. The bottom of the bowl was drowning in an inch of oil which is not appetizing. The red curry was nice, although the beef was disgusting. The beef was thinly slice roast beef you buy from the supermarket and have in sandwiches, not the quality of meat you're looking for in a curry dish. All I tasted was sandwich meat, very very disappointing. The employee taking our order suggested coconut rice (extra money as opposed to boiled rice) so we went ahead with it and were served standard boiled rice, not an ounce of coconut to seen anywhere. Overall, the sauces are ok, a little too oily but the quality of meat in their dishes is nothing short of disgusting.
Jenn
I tired the Peanut Satay Soup tonight and it was outstanding. Great service and food. I will definitely be back....already craving the soup again.
Lindsay Gough
Fantastic! Every time!. Love this place. I have been coming here for years and the quality of food has been consistent. Great good, great prices, great staff. Favorite dishes are the vermicelli chicken bowl and the pho beef fillet soup. Salad rolls are great too!
Niki
The service is despicable, and the manager was less than helpful. Coconut seafood soup was bland. I will never return.,
Mnky
Awesome service, knowledgable pleasant staff. I give a 10 for the Ginger Beef and Coconut Rice.

Great food. A smaller version of Mango downtown, Have yet to have anything I didn't like there...the Thai Red Curry bowl is amazing...all the food is fresh tasting, and service is very courteous and pleasant... vermicelli bowl and soups all excellent...
Daniel
Ohh soooo yummy!!! went here this morning got some pad thai and lemon grass brulee and Banana rolls. Everything taste good! and it's cheap !
Laura Sylvestre
Mango Salad. Mango salad was absolutely delicious. Only complaint is that the prices are definitely too high.
Wanda
I live in the area and I crave the Vietnemese sandwiches! I come here often for them. They are so good! This is the only place close to me that serves sandwiches and they are as good or better that some I've eaten downtown. I will come back. We go here often. My boyfriend who is Vietnemese likes the five color bowl, assorted meat sandwiches and the 3 beef noodle soup. He loves the grilled meats here. I love my assorted cold cut sandwiches, bj spring rolls are to die for! And of course the soup 9 beef noodle soup. This place is so clean, friendly service and quick to bring your order. It is my favorite place in our area and its too bad they close for a month for holidays because I will miss their delicious food! Thanks for services such great quality food!
K
Worst Vietnamese food ever! Not pleased with the amount of food they give you - Save you're time and go to another.
Brett
Fresh, Tasty, Quick Meal. The freshness and taste of the ingredients and the value delivered at Mini Mango are excellent. I particularly enjoy the 5 meat vermicelli bowl (I always tell myself that I’ll have something new, but continuously gravitate to this dish). The pleasant attitudes of the employees, presentation of the food and decor items are all top notch amongst fast casual restaurants.
TuxLover
Tried this for the first time and had the Vietnamese Salad Rolls and they were excellent. We ordered Thai Red Curry & Pad Thai and both were awesome and the portions were huge!! The only minor drawback is that it is more of a cafeteria style restaurant. That being said, service was fast & friendly and the food was excellent so we will definitely be going back!
TLH
Good and fresh but small portions for the $$
Matt Jenkins
Great! We'll be back for sure. Very small place but great selection and friendly staff. Food was great! Fresh and nicely spiced. Really enjoyed a 5 meat bowl with noodles and sate shrimp. Excellent BBQ flavour! We saw them mix up a few people's ordered and their system is not streamlined for lots of customer at once. Wait was reasonable considering the end result. Didn't have, but want to try a mango salad which we saw someone else get and it looked GREAT!
HPNOTIQ
Fast Food restaurant - not fast food prices. I had the red thai curry - and it was tasty!

Not sure about their pho or viet subs tho.

Lives up to its name!. Mini Mango is indeed mini. If you're looking for a dining experience with ambiance, then I recommend taking your food to go. The place is bustling and a little noisy with every bit of space utilized (i.e. a bit cramped), but I still found Mini Mango to have a positive, upbeat atmosphere.

The first thing that I noticed when I received my food was how fresh it was--nothing prepackaged or out of a can here! You can tell that this restaurant values fresh, high quality ingredients.

The portions were good and overall, I enjoyed my food. My tofu could have been cooked a little longer, but that's a matter of preference. Service was a little slow and spotty (the place was packed), but everybody was still very nice and polite. I would eat here again.
Chloe
Addictive!!!. Such an amazing restaurant!
Small, cozy, AMAZING food, close to my home and the staff are so friendly and helpful!
I order there/go in all the time (I order so much they know where to deliver before I even give my name >.< )
I've been to other Vietnamese places that I thought were amazing until I tried Mini Mango.
Now every time I go elsewhere I end up comparing the two and it just never comes close to Mini Mango.
Vermicelli is amazing...As well as some of the best coconut rice I've had outside of my home!
Keep up the good work guys!
Dave R
Great find in the suburbs!. I don't live in the area, but often find myself on weekends at South Edmonton Common, so this is a very quick jump over. I ordered a wagjag coupon for this a couple months back thinking it would be a decent place to stop in once, picturing something like a tiki ming with premade food sitting in warmers.

The location is quite small, seating for not many more than 20-30 people at any given time, so it might be better to dine during off-hours. The restaurant concept is different. If you're eating in, you order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you on real dishes, no styrofoam here (at least for eat-in). The gentleman behind the counter must have been an owner or a member of the family running the place. He was super friendly, asked if we had been in before, checked in twice on how our food was, and gave us a friendly goodbye saying "hope to see you back in" as we left. We will be, that service alone is something every restaurant should try to emulate.

I ordered the Soup and Sandwich combo with a chicken Sate sub and Wonton soup. The sub was very good, not the best I've ever had (Thi Thi in Chinatown in Calgary) but this was very good. The soup was a surprise as it was LOADED with veggies and the wontons themselves were very good.

My girlfriend ordered a one-color rice bowl (pork) with coconut rice, wok fried with the added mango strips. This was an amazing dish, made to order (so it took a little time to get out). It was very tasty, although she said the mango didn't do much to add to the flavour.

Before discount, the meal came out to about $25 with a couple of drinks. Very reasonably priced for the service and amount of food. We both left full and enjoyed our meals! Looking forward to coming back and trying something new!
Jordanlovesfood
Horrible. I always buy fried rice and a couple of other dishes in minimango before and I noticed a couple of big changes. First I noticed a big change of prices from 0.25 cents to $ 1.00 in all dishes even though prices before is already overpriced enough. I have a photographic memory and I noticed it recently after they added new dishes to the menu. Second is the quantity of the food now is reduced but the prices went up. Its really not reasonable. I don't know why they named the restaurant vietnamese cuisine when theres thai and chinese dishes too. The place is really small. Always short staff. Usual waiting times for food is from 20 to 35 minutes. That will be the last time I go to minimango. I rather go to teriyaki corner beside it. Faster service, always great food and reasonable prices.
Bill
Service?. It's a good thing this is a take out place.
Ms. Fabulous
So-So at best :o(. I heard from some people that I should try this restaurant as I really love asian cuisine.

I have to say I was quite disappointed. The food was so-so at best and I left feeling unsatisfied.

The service wasn't all that great either. I think there are definitely better asian restaurants around.
PSD
..?. Food was so-so. trendy place for sure, but this is quite misleading. If you're going to claim yourself as a "Vietnamese Restaurant" don't have half of your menu items being Thai food.
Brendan Q Zheng
Not bad at all, fast and tasty!! The environment is modern but however it does feel like a fast food restaurant. Anyways I recommend this place if u want a quick but decent meal.
Nobody In Particular
Quick Stop. All I wanted was a vietnamese sub, but living in the south I thought that may be easier said than done. I read some Urbanspoon reviews, and decided to try this place out.

Its a fast food restaurant that serves Thai/Vietnamese food. Its small and there are tables where you can sit after you order your food at the counter. It looked clean, and the decor was pretty nice for a fast food place. It felt like being in a sit down restaurant.

I ordered a pork meatball sub and mini wonton soup combo. The sub was crispy, fresh, and flavourful. One of my favourite things about vietnamese subs is the bread, and the vietnamese mayo they use so this place had it down. The meatballs were just the right amount, and the veggies were chilled and made a perfect combination. It was simple which was all I wanted. It may have been too spicy, but that was my fault for not asking them to remove the chilli peppers. The wonton soup was pretty good. A few big chunks of wontons, some veggies, so nothing special.

It was quick and it was tasty, so a pretty good experience over all. I would come back.
Cat
Not impressed. Came with a group of five. We all agreed that the food was very bland. Frontline staff were not friendly. The music was VERY loud, we found we had to yell at each other in order to have a conversation...about how bad the food was. Not recommended at all.
Mackattack
They don't offer tripe or tendon if that is what you are after.
VanEater
Great food, good lunch stop. Service is sometimes weak, but overall this place has a good atmosphere, reasonable pricing, and a solid south location.
Sanjeev Saroya
Great place. I go to mini mango all the time and have not had a bad experience.

The food is consistently good and the people are nice.

I would recommend it.
Thecageybee
Great food at lunch. Mini Mango is a really small place. Tried their seafood soup and the green onion cakes. Both were amazingly fresh and clean tasting. The portion sizes were also quite good - and the soup taste was not overwhelmed by the spices.

The prices seemed a tad higher than I expected, considering there is minimal service / space to sit. One minor pet peeve is that on asking for hot sauce, they gave me the smallest possible plastic container I have seen with less than a spoonful of hot sauce. Is sauce all that expensive?

Update: July 2011 - With going mini they still havent figured out the bugs in the ordering process. Went there just before lunch and saw frenetic activity in the kitchen but almost the whole restaurant full but no food on any table. They tool almost 18 minutes to get a take our order for a sub ready to go - first the cashier attempted to make the sub, gave up half way when someone came in to order, then someone else came out from the kitchen in a frenzy, made the subs and then promptly forgot which orders they went with. very chaotic.

Hmm if you want a nice Vietnamese food take-out service in this area - this is the place to be, otherwise, go to Tien Tuyen :o. I'm surprised there's so many pho places south of Henday now! You have Pho Hoa, Mini Mango, and Tien Tuyen. I tried all 3 places and you can see my ranks below.

The place was small but it had a very homey kinda feeling. The colors are nice. The service is friendly. It just so happened that the pho and vermicelli weren't so good... I guess, to be optimistic, at least the owner is trying something new and fresh and not stick to the cookie cutter pho/vermicelli recipes seen everywhere else in town.

Think of this as the new age of pho/vermcelli.... some sort of revolutionary move to deliver healthy Vietnamese food in a fast food / order at the counter / wok box setting.

And as you can see by the votes and reviews of this place, most people like it, so come try it out anyways! Nice little bistro right by my house. Now I don't have to drive all the way downtown for pho or banh mi. Can't wait to go back!

Cute Little Space. We have been to Mini Mango twice as we live in Summerside. It's actually pretty good. I still prefer Pho Hoa for Pho, however, their other dishes are well priced and flavorful. It's a very well appointed little space nicely decorated and clean. It is quite small with only a few tables, so I recommend take-out. Just don't forget to order a side of rice with your meat dishes since they don't come with it. Overall, I would recommend them for a quick bite.

Consistently great. Have eaten in and taken out on numerous occasions. I hadn't been to the original location, so had no preconceptions. My first trip was with my family and another family. No problem getting two tables for four beside each other, but we went pretty early. Food was great. Pad Thai has always been a favorite and this did not disappoint. Vermicelli noodle bowls were large, fresh, flavourful. Cashew chicken with coconut rice (rice is ordered separately) were great. The kids meals come with vermicelli or rice, choice of meat, green onion cakes, and a drink. Feedback from the pickiest eater was that it was all great and the prices are reasonable.

I've done take out quite a bit since my first trip and have never been disappointed, regardless of what I ordered. The soup and sandwich combo (Vietnamese sub and won ton soup and pop for $8.95) is definitely something I will try very soon.

Solace in the suburbs. Something about the suburbs frightens me. Perhaps it is the alarming sense of sameness, the ant-like conformity, or the endless maze of cul-de-sacs. And yet, the 'burbs can be home to some surprisingly good restaurants, aside from the fast foot outlets that lurk in big box store complexes. One such hidden treasure is Mini Mango. It really is mini, for it seats but a few people. The Vietnamese sandwiches put other take-out sandwiches to shame. The bread is crusty, the cilantro is zesty and the meat is divinely tender. My only quibble is that their green tea is Lipton, as opposed to something a little more authentic. It is well worth the trip to the far reaches of Summerside to find this gem.

Overall, the food was good. The green onion cakes were tasty, as was the red Thai curry and the lemon grass chicken: however, the pad Thai was very bland and the chicken was gamey. I'd go back but avoid the pad Thai.

First time to mini mango. 1. i did not like the set up, personal preference i guess i like to sit down order my food and get my bill later..because my dessert came out the same time as my maincourse

2. disappointed with the peanut sauce..usually it is my favoritie, but mini mango's sauce taste liek they took nesquik and mixed with peanut sauce

3. disappointed with the pho, the soup was too clear which means they did not make it with enough beef and bones, also tasted like there was too much MSG

4. atmosphere was nice and modern though

5. the salad rolls, skewers and green onion cake was good but i can get the same thing from pho hoa at ellerslie, with better sauces and better price

Service was good and the food was great! Very fast and the decor in the place is very nice. Good price for the portions.

Just Ok. The first time I tried to go here with my bf, showed up at 8 pm and told they were closed (it was 7:59 so i understand, but thats a bit early to close a restaurant isnt it??) So Then I ordered takeout from here the following week on Monday afternoon (Pho steak soup, salad rolls, green onion cakes) and was a bit disappointed. I specifically asked at the counter if the sauces and extras were in the bag with everything and was told that they were, then I get home and imagine my surprise having a Soup with NO red hot sauce, NO hoisin, NO sprouts, lime wedge etc. or anything. Being -25 out, I wasn't about to trek back outside. The soup was much too bland to eat plain so I threw it out. The only saving grace were that the green onion cakes were yummy and salad rolls were fresh, but I like to dip my stuff lol. Maybe dining in you have better luck, but I woudln't do take out again ever.

My brother and I had lunch at Mini Mango today and I have to say that I was extremely impressed!! I loved mini mango and will definitely be ditching my usual "Pho" spot for this one!! The service was excellent and the food was delicious!! I really enjoyed the lemongrass chicken and the spring rolls as well as the prawn! We finished off our meal with the BJ Springroll which was also delicious!! Not too sweet and not too bland. It was perfect! Thank you so much, Vina for your recommendation!! We will definitely be back!

My wife and I dined at Mini Mango this evening and it was incredible. We've been to Sweet Mango in the past and like this even better. The location is great - walking distance. The atmosphere is incredible and the food was spectacular. Peanut Saté soup mmmmmm. Then we had the Lemongrass Crème Caramel. Wow, what a taste!! I highly recommend this dessert!! It was our first time there and there was lots of seating. Not sure what the other reviewer was talking about. We will definitely be back. We even bought a bag of their Christmas cookies of which I've devoured half the bag. Better not let my wife find out :). Kudos to you Mini-Mango. We'll be back every week!!

Love Minimango. My family loves Minimango. It's probably a good thing we don't live closer :) The food is fresh and delicious. You can taste the love in it, that special something that is only present when the kitchen takes extra care and loves what they are doing.
Portions are very generous. The room is lovely. I wish it were a larger space as well, but I can't hold their success against them :)
Good food takes time and it's worth the wait to get a table.
Highly reccommended!

Reply to "mobile review" by Kelentine Mar 4, 2011. Hi Kelentine!

Thanks so much for trying us out!

We are sincerely sorry that your Pad Thai was not up to par. It is one our best and most popular dishes, so the flavour you describe is not at all the norm.

Should you give us another try dining in and you find that something is off, simply tell our staff and we will remake it to your liking. If you are doing take out and something is off just call and speak to a manager the day of your order and we'll see what we can arrange to make up for the order.

Well, thanks for giving us a try as we truly appreciate it since we are family owned and your community support is our livelihood!

Take care!

MINI MANGO

-----15 Mar, 2011-----

Reply to "first time to mini mango" by bb Feb 21, 2011. Hi bb!

Firstly, thank you so much for trying us out. We apologize it took so long to address your concerns.

Thanks for the feedback. Constructive criticism does make a difference!

1. We will now implement a question by our counter service staff if you would like your dessert after your meal or all together. We operate under a "quick service" format, hence the all at once meal.
2. :*) Nesquik was a childhood favourite of ours especially on ice cream! However, you're right. Peanut sauce should not taste like it. The sauce is on the sweet side normally, but should not taste like a dessert topping. The sauce is made in house and the only possibility for over sweetness is that the sugar was not completely melted and stirred thoroughly. Alternatively try our peanut sate sauce. Less sweetness with a mild spiciness.
3. We actually don't carry MSG in house (We do have imported ingredients that are pre-made with MSG though, but we are searching for MSG free alternatives in hopes of becoming an MSG free restaurant one day). Our soups are made MSG free. In lieu of it we actually use double the beef and bones along other vegetable ingredients to naturally give a sweetness to the pho. Thus clarity of the broth is not a matter of bones or meat, but the duration a broth is steeped. A broth left to steep to long will lose it's clarity. We prefer to make a clear broth because we like to see the contents of our soup when served. You can verify the validity of what we are saying here by referencing celebrity Vietnamese cook books like ones by Mai Pham.
4. Thank you for the compliment about the atmosphere. We worked closely with Edmonton's foremost restaurant designer to achieve our look.
5. We certainly respect what our neighbours Pho Hoa are doing as we dined there on many occasions before we opened MM. So kudos to them. This is much like Vietnam where your next door neighbour could be in business doing the exact same thing, but you still are colleagues. The pie is big enough for everyone is what we believe. However we should be in the same price vicinity as them if not better on certain fronts because of the minimal service format. Sauce wise, if you can bring yourself to give us another try and sample our sauces again, hopefully it will be a tastier outcome.

Well, thanks for giving us a try as we truly appreciate it since we are family owned and your community support is our livelihood!

Take care!

MINI MANGO

-----15 Mar, 2011-----

Reply to "Just Ok" by T Jan 14, 2011. Hi T!

Firstly, thank you so much for trying us out. We apologize it took so long to address your concerns.

Yes we do close a bit earlier then most other restaurants. Sundays 12-7, Monday to Tuesday 11-8, & Wednesday to Saturday 11-9. However, we may extend our hours as our community is requesting it.

We are sincerely sorry that all the wonderful condiments that go with your pho were forgotten. A pho is simply not a pho without those sauces and herbs! This was a case of human error... twice in fact. Once for not packing the items and a second for not double checking when you asked.

This should not be the norm, but should this happen, we would try to deliver even a simple bag of condiments to you even in -25 celsius weather! We would have also delivered a fresh pho to you to swap as we know your pho would have been cold by the time we get you those condiments. If the driver couldn't make it in adequate time then we would give you an option to gladly credit you the whole item for a future order for this certain instance if you phoned back the day of your order. You would just have to call and speak to a manager to explain the situation.

Well, thanks for giving us a try as we truly appreciate it since we are family owned and your community support is our livelihood! We sure hope you can come to try us again so we can get you a pho done right with all the sauces and herbs!

Take care,

MINI MANGO

-----12 Oct, 2010-----

RE: Thanks for the 2nd feedback Lividmidnight. Hello again Lividmidnight,

Thanks for responding! In regards to your concern with sauce quantity, we found that the issue was consistency with the quantity being served and packaged as some had the right amount and some were quite lacking. We have addressed this now.

We truly appreciate your response. We hope to see you again and hope we have met your concerns!

Keep sending your (good and bad) comments everyone!

Thanks & Take Care,

Mini Mango

-----09 Oct, 2010-----

Thanks for the feed back Lividmidnight. Hello Lividmidnight,

To clarify on some of your concerns:

- Yes, the service is limited as this concept is counter-service and not table service. (We do however have an expediter who runs your meals out to your table). However because of this format we have lowered the prices by 10% to 20% when compared to Sweet Mango prices. You're also (usually) tipping for table service at Sweet Mango too. Tips are not necessary at Mini Mango, because it's counter-service. Please compare the prices at www.sweetmango.ca and Mini Mango on Facebook.

- Sweet Mango DOES charge for sauces as well. It is built into the item's price when extra is ordered. Mini Mango bills it separately. Sauces are made in house and are sold by half cup (125 mL) portions, NOT 15 mL tablespoons. Compare this to similar jarred sauces (loaded with preservatives mind you) found in your Asian supermarkets at $5 per 500 mL (that's $1 per 100 mL). We think 50 cents is a reasonable price for freshly made sauces by people who you can see and talk to.

- We completely agree that the space is small. We wish it was bigger too, but then we couldn't call ourselves "Mini Mango"! :*)

Regardless Lividmidnight, if you've had a good experience at Sweet Mango, then we think we are not far off in duplicating that at Mini Mango. Please come in again and speak to us and we will try our best to address your concerns.

Although our food and concept will not be to everyone's liking, we certainly value and care about the opinion of the community because you provide us our livelihood.

Thanks and take care!

Mini Mango

-----09 Oct, 2010-----

Thanks for the feed back!. This is a message from Mini Mango itself. Thanks for visiting and trying our new concept. Mini Mango is a "quick-service" aka self service concept from the creators of Whyte Avenue's Sweet Mango.

We are a family run restaurant which uses family recipes. Feed back from the community (both good & bad) are very important to us as it allows us to keep things that work and adjust things that don't. Word of mouth is essential to our business. So although we know that we can't please everyone, we still appreciate thoughts from the community.

Fundamental ideas from us include:
- keeping a family run model
- produce as much food items in-house as possible
- using fresh and local products as much as possible
- move towards sustainable initiatives
- listen and be involved in the community

We hope to see and hear more from the community! Best Vietnamese in the area. Though not my favourite Thai or Vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton, it's within walking distance of home, and the food is good. I really enjoy the Thai Coconut Seafood Soup, and the mini combined with a shared order of green onion cakes is more than enough to fill me up! I highly recommend calling ahead with your order. I showed up at 1 on a Friday afternoon and the place was still packed with orders coming out of the kitchen constantly. It's certainly a nice alternative to Pho Hoa. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it's styled after a fast food restaurant (like Wok Box), where you order and pay at the cash register before eating, but it adds some variety to the formerly limited family-friendly dining options in the area.
Meat VS Veg
Mini Mango is a small, casual Vietnamese restaurant located deep in the south side, on Ellerslie Road and 91st St. The inside is bright and inviting, with orange and red chairs, Vietnamese themed art, and colorful accents. Steph ordered the Lemongrass Tofu Bánh mì ($7): perfectly cooked tofu simmered in a delicious spicy sauce on a crusty baguette topped with cucumber, onions, pickled carrots, garlic aioli, and cilantro (hold the cilantro). This sandwich was amazing! A great portion size, quality ingredients, and fantastic flavours made Steph a very happy customer! Mini Mango is also dedicated to proper preparation of vegetarian dishes, as their menu states they have "segregated preparation surfaces, frying oils, and strictly vegetable based ingredients" which sets any veggie's mind at ease. She would have liked a

This little restaurant doesn't take reservations, so I would recommend heading there for a meal before/after the dinner rush, since there is limited seating. The restaurant is clean, and a respectable establishment, and I know they will grow and expand as the Ellerslie area develops. Was it a good meal overall? Yes. Will I come here again? Yes, and next time, I'm gonna try their take on Banh Mi!
Messy Little Cook
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Mini Mango, and I'm already looking forward to our next visit. There are so many things I want to try: banh mi, mango salad, tom yum soup, lemongrass creme caramel...looks like we will be making several return visits!

When I ate at Teriyaki Corner , I noticed a small Vietnamese and Thai fast food restaurant right beside it with the cute name of Mini Mango. I thought I would give it a try, so I went for dinner one night and ordered a few typical Vietnamese and Thai dishes. The ordering process was a huge hassle to begin with, especially for someone who had never been there before. There were way too many choices for each dish. "Large or small?" "Rice or noodles?" "Regular rice or coconut rice?" "Grilled or stir-fried?" The questions seemed endless and I heaved a sigh of relief after a 5 minute ordering session. As for the food, the pho bo ($7.95) was sufficient in its role as the most basic Vietnamese beef noodle soup. The meat wasn't very tender and the soup wasn't particularly tasty, but both did their job to contribute to a steaming and satisfying noodle bowl. The mini size tom yum see fuut soup ($7.45) was more than enough for one person, especially with a small order of added noodles ( $1.95). I
Eating Is The Hard Part
I don't know how mini a mango actually has to be to fit in this category, but as a restaurant, I think this fits the bill. Mini Mango is located deep south. Yes, even farther than IKEA. It sits inside the Market at Summerside fortress which includes a Save-On Foods at its core, along with a smattering of businesses and a mixture of food stops. Heading down their last Thursday, I found myself enjoying a peaceful lunch with Zim and The Eagle. The tiny space was packed when we arrived, but after a two top vacated the premise rather quickly, we slid an extra stool on the side to make it work. Ordering is straight forward and very much like Famoso over in South Edmonton Common. There is a large electronic menu behind the counter for you to order from, you pay, and then the food is taken out to you. Zim as well as a few other customers I overheard, mentioned that the electronic board was rather awkward to read, but I didn't find any problems. If this is the

True to its name, Mini Mango is a tidy little space set up within a strip mall (of which there are many in Edmonton) on the city’s southside.
