This place is amazing. Best sea food we have ever had. The staff were awesome. The owner brought over some salmon for us to try for free that he was cooking on the BBQ and it was delicious. Highly recommend, if going make sure to book reservations. It’s a small place but very unique. Will be back again!!

Absolutely amazing!!! Even after losing our reservation that was booked a month ago it was all worth the wait!!! Every dish we ordered was incredible. Greatest seafood in town and the decor is on point. Black Pearl is killing the fun evening status. 🦀🦐🐚🍤🍷🍽

A couple of weeks ago I went to Black Pearl for the first time. I had a few days off so I decided to go to a few places that I’ve never been before so I could blog about it. This week was filled with new restaurants and coffee shops! It was a really nice break from home cooking and a good way to try out places I’ve never been to before.

I love this place.  Great ambiance, great service and the food is amazing.  I typically come in the evening - a nice way to catch up with friends over delicious food and drink. This Saturday I stopped in for lunch after taking in  the 104th Street market.  The lunch menu has some really interesting items.  I tried the prawn sliders with a spring salad- fabulous.  The patio is nice, service exceptional, and the bartender made me a beer mojito (even though it was not on the menu).  Definitely coming back.

My mom and I came here for some quick appies and a glass of wine. We ordered about a dozen oysters and they had a decent selection with great garnishes. Delicious! Also had the dip, not very good. Cool atmosphere and decor.

I love coming here in the summer! I come here most often for their buck-a-shuck oysters on Tuesdays which is usually great. I'd say that they're fresh and their selections vary every Tuesday
I have also tried their other dishes that I find to be a favourite and would keep ordering!
Seafood mac & cheese - so good. so cheesy. has a good amount of seafood. I really love their mac & cheese but I find that it's a fairly small portion for the price.
PEI mussels - I also really enjoyed these mussels and that's coming from someone who usually doesn't like mussels!  Theirs is not as salty as others I've tried and the wine sauce goes really well with it. I know it also comes with a tomato sauce but I haven't tried that. It comes in a bucket-like bowl which is not a bad portion.
Spicy snow crab - again another small portion for the price. Buuuuuut the sauce is so good! It's quite spicy so I'd be wary if you don't have a big tolerance. It can also get a little messy so be prepared to get your hands dirty for this dish.
Seafood platter - their most expensive item on the menu. If you're a big seafood person, this portion might not be enough for you (for the price). I shared this once with another person and we were both definitely unsatisfied with what we got. It comes with a variety of fresh seafood but not enough quantity. Again, this may vary depending on the person!
Service is superb here. The servers are so friendly and they really try to get familiar with you and they are so attentive. A+ for that! It's best here during patio season. I find that it's the best time to enjoy seafood haha!

Had supper here a few Fridays back. Coming in its got a pretty cool nautical theme inside, shocker I know, But its certainly different than what you see around Edmonton. They led us upstairs to the other dinning room, its cozy to say the least but if I paid that much per sq. ft. in rent I'd likely stack the tables like bunk beds. The four of us of had a look at the menu and decided a bottle of wine with some sashimi would be a good start, but before she arrived to take our order decided we better add the snow crab in jerk cream sauce to that list. The wine came first, We ordered the Finca malbec. It was a decent wine but ended up lost in the food. As the sashimi came out I knew we'd come to the right place. Big juicy slabs sitting in sesame oil with scallions, lemon and lime slices and fresh ginger. They absolutely killed it. This was actually quite a large appetizer, most at the table had 1/2 to 1 slice of tuna. It was so good I couldn't stop, I ate the remaining 4 pieces(which are likely 1 1/2 to 2oz each). The snow crab and jerk sauce was no slouch either. Came out steaming hot and had a great flavor to them. We were warned they were quite spicy, but on arrival none of us could detect much spice at all. Good jerk flavor, low spice. In my opinion. Our mains came out just as we finished gorging our selves(mostly me) on the starters and First up came the steak, regular plating, nice sides and cooked perfectly. It's a steak, either good or bad, this one very good. The surf and turf tacos came out on flour tortillas with spinach, onion, steak and shrimp. I didn't try them until they had cooled off, but I wouldn't be ordering them. The spinach had wilted and I'm not sure what else was on it. Cheese or something? I don't know, it was actually a horrifying end to my meal. But luckily 2 of us ordered the king and snow crab, one naked with melted butter and one in the scallion ginger peppercorn sauce? I cant remember, it was a very delicate sauce. These were absolutely huge. Easily split between 2 people. It came in a big sauce pan tossed in pasta, at first glance I thought it was all pasta in the bottom of the dish, upon closer inspection I realized this was a bowl of giant crab legs sprinkled with pasta, just the way I like it. I'll go as far as saying this is the best seafood dish I've eaten in the city. Quality seafood always wins. Side note we asked about a few drinks that were not on the menu, she informed us they've got a full bar and skilled bartenders. We were happily obliged with our drink preferences. Something I always appreciate.Overall it was a great meal, service was spot on and the food, tacos aside, was phenomenal. The tuna sashimi and the king crab need special mention as they were some of the best seafood dishes I've eaten in the city. Not surprised coming from a restaurant that rubs shoulders with café amore. Also one of my favorite spots in the city. I don't want to end on a bad note but those tacos could use some serious revamping. Other then that I enjoyed every minute of my time there and will be back to try some of those oysters pronto.

We went for a friend's birthday and got the upper private area for our booking.  It is a very compact restaurant, so reservations are highly recommended.

The serving staff was great!  We were warned ahead of time that the kitchen was quite small and that due to the size of our group, our meals would not be coming out at the same time.

Tuesdays are "buck a shuck" for the oyster bar.  They have several flavored vinegar selections and a couple of hot sauces to choose from.  The oysters were fresh and amazing.

There is a decent selection of cocktails available.  The table tried quite a few of them and everyone was commenting on how delicious they were.

Besides parking, the only complaint was the "fish tacos".  Not what you would expect when you hear "taco".  Apparently it was more like a spring roll; haddock, coleslaw and plum sauce.  I did not try this item myself, but several of the other guests at the table did.

I will go back for those oysters again!

Stumbled across this place while walking the farmer's market. Recently this place offers lunch on Saturdays. Not usually able to go for evenings, I jumped at the chance to try lunch here. A limited lunch menu, but satisfying all the same. I got the surf and turf wrap, which was full of meat and rice with a rich sauce. The fries ordered as a side was generous in size and a great value. The calamari was lightly breaded and not too heavy. Would love to come back and try the dinner menu. Service was top notch and friendly. An alternative place to eat if at the market on Saturdays.

After another failed attempt to try a downtown restaurant, me and my girlfriend decided to walk around downtown and see what we could get for dinner. There was a showing of old school muscle cars/classics on 105st and we walked around until I saw Black Pearl Seafood Bar. We got a table near the front behind the staircase, not the best table but whatever. The decor is cool and fits the theme of the restaurant.

For food it's more so "tapas" style or so dishes to share but since it was just me and my girlfriend we didn't really care about the sharing aspect so we just got whatever to eat. We got their Ceviche with orange and fennel. Served with semi crunchy chips (they seemed stale). Ceviche was okay but for $23 and all you get is a tiny Margherita glass of it, I've had way better and for far cheaper. My girlfriend got their Pearl Seafood Fried Rice. It had a good amount shrimp and scallops. But I can tell they stir fry it with ketchup which is a little bizarre. Rice just a tad crunchy. I got their Seafood Pasta with Linguine in a Tomato Rose sauce. It came with smoked salmon, scallops & shrimp. It was very filling and delicious but for $32 for essential just pasta and seafood I would have liked to see a bit more seafood like clams or mussels as well.

For a seafood bar it's average, but they really need to consider their price point. Some things are just way over priced and simply not worth it. I saw a table get the Cold Seafood Platter for $130. And for the amount of seafood you get, (not a lot, maybe enough to feed 2-3) the cost is just way too much. Hate to say it but I would rather go to Red Lobster or for a nice Chinese seafood dinner; banquet style.

I happened to find The Black Pearl randomly one day earlier this year, while perusing YEG's recommended seafood restaurants, located downtown. Admittedly, I'd never heard of it yet before as it only opened last year, but decided to give it a try as it had pretty decent ratings. My overall experience was very enjoyable, and I have been back several times since, over the past few months.

It's located downtown, in a fairly hipster-friendly, artsy neighbourhood, situated amongst the older buildings where there are many artist's lofts and the like. Parking isn't too bad here at all considering it's downtown-there's meter street parking, and a few impark lots.

The restaurant is easy to miss as it is pretty small and hard to notice from the exterior. When you walk in however, it has a very neat style of decor. It feels like you stepped into a nautical boat scene, like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Though it is a smaller establishment, The Black Pearl has a very well-suited, quaint atmosphere, and it is decorated accordingly.

Drinks here are delicious, the restaurant's personal funky recipes make their signature cocktails unique and tasty. I had a delicious elderflower cocktail, with an edible hibiscus flower in the bottom of the glass, which I fell in love with. My companion ordered a Caesar, which I admit is not my favorite alcoholic beverage, but was apparently incredible. The Black Pearl adds a buttery crab leg to the otherwise traditional drink-making it extra yummy.

The food is obviously predominantly seafood dishes, which I adore, and considering we are nowhere near the ocean, are actually pretty good quality. I've tried a few of their linguine dishes, one with crab and the others with lobster, and an array of pasta sauces. They encourage sharing, as the pasta dishes are quite large, and contain a whole crustacean for $55. Another popular type of seafood they offer are the raw oysters, which I tried here for the first time, and they are definitely an acquired taste! Tuesdays are great to go if you adore oysters, as they offer them for a great buck a shuck deal.

All in all, this is a great little restaurant to try out as a casual dinner by yourself, or with friends, a nice date spot or even for a birthday party. They take reservations, which is a plus, and change up the menus frequently so be sure to give them a try.

I really enjoyed this place! I’ll definitely be back. The ambiance was unique and food was delicious. The Buck a Shuck oysters were a great deal too. Although I think the toppings/garnishes could be improved. Also loved the smoked cinnamon Sangria!

The drinks are great, the seafood is perfect and the service is great. My girlfriend had their Lobster Ravioli and she loved it. Since it was her birthday dinner, that made my night. I had their Thai soup which, was incredibly disappointing. When advertising a vermicelli soup, you expect to have vermicelli noodles in the soup. Other than it was a perfect evening.

Amazing! Food quality 💯 %, atmosphere/ambiance perfection. HIGHLY recommend, already looking forward to going back and tasting more dishes from the menu - so many to choose from. The Atlantic Salmon was en Pointe as were the Brussel sprouts!

Visited for the first time yesterday and loved everything about this place! It smells like warm wood and looks like you're on a pirate ship (but in a classy way). Friendly service and killer cocktails. Loved the smoking cinnamon stick in the Bayou Sour. Nice touch. We shared the grilled seafood platter, which is basically a charcuterie board but for seafood. LOL. It was absolutely delicious and just enough food for two people. Will definitely be back!

Revised review: After a few hiccups in trying to eat and order from this restaurant we finally were able to and as disheartened as I was before all is forgiven and then some! This place is unreal! We had friends in town and decided to try it out. We were able to get a table upstairs in the quiet and intimate section of the restaraunt. We ordered the cocktails, the bisque, the oysters and kings platter between us, everything was to die for!! We actually added more oysters after having our first round. The red wine vinaigrette was so yummy, perfect accompaniment with oysters. All the seafood was perfectly cooked and the platter offered a strong variety of flavours, each unique to the other. Worth every penny, we cannot wait to get back!!! Also shout out to the lady serving us, I wish I grabbed her name, she was an absolute delight! Thank you guys for a great night!

I heard about Black Pearl Seafood Bar for several years now and finally got a chance to visit recently. The restaurant had a nice vibe and service was good. In terms of food, I tried their Buck a Shuck and Lobster Mac’n Cheese. Their Buck a Shuck came out quite nice and it’s definitely worth trying. Note that they have a dozen oysters per person limit for Buck a Shuck.
