Review Black Pearl Seafood Bar - Edmonton

I really enjoyed this place! I’ll definitely be back. The ambiance was unique and food was delicious. The Buck a Shuck oysters were a great deal too. Although I think the toppings/garnishes could be improved. Also loved the smoked cinnamon Sangria!

The drinks are great, the seafood is perfect and the service is great. My girlfriend had their Lobster Ravioli and she loved it. Since it was her birthday dinner, that made my night. I had their Thai soup which, was incredibly disappointing. When advertising a vermicelli soup, you expect to have vermicelli noodles in the soup. Other than it was a perfect evening.

Amazing! Food quality 💯 %, atmosphere/ambiance perfection. HIGHLY recommend, already looking forward to going back and tasting more dishes from the menu - so many to choose from. The Atlantic Salmon was en Pointe as were the Brussel sprouts!

Calamari light with delicate flavour and fresh herbs allow the light flavour of the squid to stand out. Like that they chose to cook them without batter! Only wish I had was that they would use fresh squid. Missing the light bounce fresh squid has. Buck a shuck oysters No shell bits! Finally a place that can shuck oysters well! Would definitely recommend upgrading to a couple of their raspberry point (PEI) premium oysters. They are on a totally different level. Rich sweet and creamy goodness. Beet salad Light and creamy vinaigrette well balanced with a fresh assortment of greens. Addition of the spinach really lifts the salad and contrasts against the strong flavour of the beets and cheese. Ceasars drinks carry a strong spiced kick to them. We're VERY spicy. They did come with some awesome toppings for a drink. Lobster Bisque Dish has lobster in it but is more bisque with lobster topping. Found it a little Heavy on the cream side of things with a sprinkling of fresh lobster in it. Flavourful but the lobster taste is lost in the soup. Would love to see more lobster incorporated into the soup. Mussels A little on the salty side but the flavour is quite pleasant on the palate. Some of the smaller mussels were a little rubbery but the normal sized and larger ones were cooked decently well. Chefs special - sirloin steak with pesto linguini and seasonal veggies Sirloin was cooked Sous-vide and finished lightly on the grill. I really like the mix of seasoning on the steak. Flavourful and not overpowering. Only wish that they would have used a better cut of steak. Prime rib or ribeye would have suited this dish much better. Cooked perfectly throughout the whole steak but found it a little dry on the outside. Veggies were perfectly cooked. Highlight of this dish was definitely the linguini. Well balanced robust pesto which is light. Managed to cook it without it being overly salty or oily. Pasta has that nice soft spring to it 😀 Pearl pescatore Pasta was cooked well but the sauce was a little bland. Maybe the salt shaker ran out in the kitchen for this dish. The lobster was a little on the overcooked side. The pasta needed more flavour to be able to tie the dish together with the lobster. Service Servers attentive and have a good knowledge of the menu. Service is prompt and welcoming. Ambiance also classy and makes you feel like you're in a fisherman's cove. Pricing reasonable for food.

Visited for the first time yesterday and loved everything about this place! It smells like warm wood and looks like you're on a pirate ship (but in a classy way). Friendly service and killer cocktails. Loved the smoking cinnamon stick in the Bayou Sour. Nice touch. We shared the grilled seafood platter, which is basically a charcuterie board but for seafood. LOL. It was absolutely delicious and just enough food for two people. Will definitely be back!

Came in for some drinks and oysters, they were fantastic! I had a sangria and a couple other drinks recommended by the bartender! The service was top notch. Will definitely be coming back here soon.

Revised review: After a few hiccups in trying to eat and order from this restaurant we finally were able to and as disheartened as I was before all is forgiven and then some! This place is unreal! We had friends in town and decided to try it out. We were able to get a table upstairs in the quiet and intimate section of the restaraunt. We ordered the cocktails, the bisque, the oysters and kings platter between us, everything was to die for!! We actually added more oysters after having our first round. The red wine vinaigrette was so yummy, perfect accompaniment with oysters. All the seafood was perfectly cooked and the platter offered a strong variety of flavours, each unique to the other. Worth every penny, we cannot wait to get back!!! Also shout out to the lady serving us, I wish I grabbed her name, she was an absolute delight! Thank you guys for a great night!

I heard about Black Pearl Seafood Bar for several years now and finally got a chance to visit recently. The restaurant had a nice vibe and service was good. In terms of food, I tried their Buck a Shuck and Lobster Mac’n Cheese. Their Buck a Shuck came out quite nice and it’s definitely worth trying. Note that they have a dozen oysters per person limit for Buck a Shuck.

We had come to this restaurant a year ago and the menu was awesome. We came back in the fall as we had really enjoyed the lobster mac and cheese, lobster poutine and fish and chips . We decided to come again while visiting our kids and take them out for a special occasion including a birthday. We were shocked that the menu had completely Changed.. We explained to the waiter that we were celebrating and wanted a special child drink for 2 of our grandkids .. that included an edible flower which they were really excited about.. He said they did not have that anymore but would make something just as special . It ended up Being juice with a cherry in a tin cup and the kids were soooooo disappointed plus a charge of $13.50 which was ridiculous. I had the feeling the waiter was not honest with us and was only interested in selling high price items .. We had to ask numerous times for bread and at no time did he recognize the Birthday. The fish and chips were good for the most part but one portion was raw .. we did not say anything at that point we were frustrated. We all talked about what a disappointing experience it was . We came from Camrose which meant we drove an hour there and back. We were visiting from the Yukon and I had bragged about the great food to my husband who was very disappointed. We were even charged for a pop refill. Our bill was $300 and I will never return.. It felt like the waiter was making up prices as we went along and charged $15 for just pasta with a bit of tomato sauce. I am still upset about the experience we had.. and lack of acknowledgement of the Birthday and overpricing the drinks for the kids ..I was embarrassed that it turned out to be such a rip off..

This place is amazing. Best sea food we have ever had. The staff were awesome. The owner brought over some salmon for us to try for free that he was cooking on the BBQ and it was delicious. Highly recommend, if going make sure to book reservations. It’s a small place but very unique. Will be back again!!

Went for our anniversary for supper. They gave us 1.5 hours for our experience as they had the table booked again for a 7 pm. reservation. We felt this would be plenty of time. Had an appetizer and a beer which was delish. Supper wasn't served till 6:30 and the dish I ordered was a pasta dish with crab, however you had to crack the crab yourself before you could eat. It was very good, however by the time I got the crab cracked and ready, my pasta was cold. With 10 minutes to 7 now, we had to try to get our waitresses attention. No coffee or dessert or anything was offered. Service was not good at all! Sadly disappointed for our much anticipated Anniversary Dinner. Not sure we would return.

Absolutely amazing!!! Even after losing our reservation that was booked a month ago it was all worth the wait!!! Every dish we ordered was incredible. Greatest seafood in town and the decor is on point. Black Pearl is killing the fun evening status. 🦀🦐🐚🍤🍷🍽

I’ll start off by saying this restaurant was one of our top 3 restaurants and it breaks my heart having to give such an awful review after so many years of praise. For a stretch we were there 2-3 times a month. Not to mention we love Cafe Amore, Botega and we know the two families involved in the cafe amore company care about their restaurants.

It started with the a poorly executed menu change and price increase. They removed their best and most popular plate. We had no bread brought over. We order the honey nut prawn, lobster, and scallop appy every time. This time we got it, all of the seafood was cold and wasn’t cooked in the actual sauce. There was minimal sauce on it and the sauce that was there was watered down. We did not finish it because it was that bad. I requested a side of pasta so I could try and recreate the plate which they removed. I had to ask three times... the server was very irritated and had to go back and forth to the kitchen. When it did arrive it was so disappointing. We paid $60 for 7 pieces of crab. There was only 1 actual leg the rest was the low quality knuckles. The sauce was practically water with a hint of spice. I again did not finish my meal. With the side of pasta my meal totalled in $67, and it was inedible. So after we paid $210 for our meal we walked down the street to Botega to turn our night around and eat something else.

It completely astonishes me that they let this happen to this restaurant. I don’t know if they have a chef that is trying to cut corners or they want to make more profit by decreasing quality of food but it 100% shows. Needless to say we will not be returning here nor will we recommend to anyone again. We really hope management steps in and this restaurant can be great again because we truly loved this place.

A couple of weeks ago I went to Black Pearl for the first time. I had a few days off so I decided to go to a few places that I’ve never been before so I could blog about it. This week was filled with new restaurants and coffee shops! It was a really nice break from home cooking and a good way to try out places I’ve never been to before.

I love this place. Great ambiance, great service and the food is amazing. I typically come in the evening - a nice way to catch up with friends over delicious food and drink. This Saturday I stopped in for lunch after taking in the 104th Street market. The lunch menu has some really interesting items. I tried the prawn sliders with a spring salad- fabulous. The patio is nice, service exceptional, and the bartender made me a beer mojito (even though it was not on the menu). Definitely coming back.

My mom and I came here for some quick appies and a glass of wine. We ordered about a dozen oysters and they had a decent selection with great garnishes. Delicious! Also had the dip, not very good. Cool atmosphere and decor.

I love coming here in the summer! I come here most often for their buck-a-shuck oysters on Tuesdays which is usually great. I'd say that they're fresh and their selections vary every Tuesday
I have also tried their other dishes that I find to be a favourite and would keep ordering!
Seafood mac & cheese - so good. so cheesy. has a good amount of seafood. I really love their mac & cheese but I find that it's a fairly small portion for the price.
PEI mussels - I also really enjoyed these mussels and that's coming from someone who usually doesn't like mussels! Theirs is not as salty as others I've tried and the wine sauce goes really well with it. I know it also comes with a tomato sauce but I haven't tried that. It comes in a bucket-like bowl which is not a bad portion.
Spicy snow crab - again another small portion for the price. Buuuuuut the sauce is so good! It's quite spicy so I'd be wary if you don't have a big tolerance. It can also get a little messy so be prepared to get your hands dirty for this dish.
Seafood platter - their most expensive item on the menu. If you're a big seafood person, this portion might not be enough for you (for the price). I shared this once with another person and we were both definitely unsatisfied with what we got. It comes with a variety of fresh seafood but not enough quantity. Again, this may vary depending on the person!
Service is superb here. The servers are so friendly and they really try to get familiar with you and they are so attentive. A+ for that! It's best here during patio season. I find that it's the best time to enjoy seafood haha!

Had supper here a few Fridays back. Coming in its got a pretty cool nautical theme inside, shocker I know, But its certainly different than what you see around Edmonton. They led us upstairs to the other dinning room, its cozy to say the least but if I paid that much per sq. ft. in rent I'd likely stack the tables like bunk beds. The four of us of had a look at the menu and decided a bottle of wine with some sashimi would be a good start, but before she arrived to take our order decided we better add the snow crab in jerk cream sauce to that list. The wine came first, We ordered the Finca malbec. It was a decent wine but ended up lost in the food. As the sashimi came out I knew we'd come to the right place. Big juicy slabs sitting in sesame oil with scallions, lemon and lime slices and fresh ginger. They absolutely killed it. This was actually quite a large appetizer, most at the table had 1/2 to 1 slice of tuna. It was so good I couldn't stop, I ate the remaining 4 pieces(which are likely 1 1/2 to 2oz each). The snow crab and jerk sauce was no slouch either. Came out steaming hot and had a great flavor to them. We were warned they were quite spicy, but on arrival none of us could detect much spice at all. Good jerk flavor, low spice. In my opinion. Our mains came out just as we finished gorging our selves(mostly me) on the starters and First up came the steak, regular plating, nice sides and cooked perfectly. It's a steak, either good or bad, this one very good. The surf and turf tacos came out on flour tortillas with spinach, onion, steak and shrimp. I didn't try them until they had cooled off, but I wouldn't be ordering them. The spinach had wilted and I'm not sure what else was on it. Cheese or something? I don't know, it was actually a horrifying end to my meal. But luckily 2 of us ordered the king and snow crab, one naked with melted butter and one in the scallion ginger peppercorn sauce? I cant remember, it was a very delicate sauce. These were absolutely huge. Easily split between 2 people. It came in a big sauce pan tossed in pasta, at first glance I thought it was all pasta in the bottom of the dish, upon closer inspection I realized this was a bowl of giant crab legs sprinkled with pasta, just the way I like it. I'll go as far as saying this is the best seafood dish I've eaten in the city. Quality seafood always wins. Side note we asked about a few drinks that were not on the menu, she informed us they've got a full bar and skilled bartenders. We were happily obliged with our drink preferences. Something I always appreciate.Overall it was a great meal, service was spot on and the food, tacos aside, was phenomenal. The tuna sashimi and the king crab need special mention as they were some of the best seafood dishes I've eaten in the city. Not surprised coming from a restaurant that rubs shoulders with café amore. Also one of my favorite spots in the city. I don't want to end on a bad note but those tacos could use some serious revamping. Other then that I enjoyed every minute of my time there and will be back to try some of those oysters pronto.

We went for a friend's birthday and got the upper private area for our booking. It is a very compact restaurant, so reservations are highly recommended.

The serving staff was great! We were warned ahead of time that the kitchen was quite small and that due to the size of our group, our meals would not be coming out at the same time.

Tuesdays are "buck a shuck" for the oyster bar. They have several flavored vinegar selections and a couple of hot sauces to choose from. The oysters were fresh and amazing.

There is a decent selection of cocktails available. The table tried quite a few of them and everyone was commenting on how delicious they were.

Besides parking, the only complaint was the "fish tacos". Not what you would expect when you hear "taco". Apparently it was more like a spring roll; haddock, coleslaw and plum sauce. I did not try this item myself, but several of the other guests at the table did.

I will go back for those oysters again!

Stumbled across this place while walking the farmer's market. Recently this place offers lunch on Saturdays. Not usually able to go for evenings, I jumped at the chance to try lunch here. A limited lunch menu, but satisfying all the same. I got the surf and turf wrap, which was full of meat and rice with a rich sauce. The fries ordered as a side was generous in size and a great value. The calamari was lightly breaded and not too heavy. Would love to come back and try the dinner menu. Service was top notch and friendly. An alternative place to eat if at the market on Saturdays.

After another failed attempt to try a downtown restaurant, me and my girlfriend decided to walk around downtown and see what we could get for dinner. There was a showing of old school muscle cars/classics on 105st and we walked around until I saw Black Pearl Seafood Bar. We got a table near the front behind the staircase, not the best table but whatever. The decor is cool and fits the theme of the restaurant.

For food it's more so "tapas" style or so dishes to share but since it was just me and my girlfriend we didn't really care about the sharing aspect so we just got whatever to eat. We got their Ceviche with orange and fennel. Served with semi crunchy chips (they seemed stale). Ceviche was okay but for $23 and all you get is a tiny Margherita glass of it, I've had way better and for far cheaper. My girlfriend got their Pearl Seafood Fried Rice. It had a good amount shrimp and scallops. But I can tell they stir fry it with ketchup which is a little bizarre. Rice just a tad crunchy. I got their Seafood Pasta with Linguine in a Tomato Rose sauce. It came with smoked salmon, scallops & shrimp. It was very filling and delicious but for $32 for essential just pasta and seafood I would have liked to see a bit more seafood like clams or mussels as well.

For a seafood bar it's average, but they really need to consider their price point. Some things are just way over priced and simply not worth it. I saw a table get the Cold Seafood Platter for $130. And for the amount of seafood you get, (not a lot, maybe enough to feed 2-3) the cost is just way too much. Hate to say it but I would rather go to Red Lobster or for a nice Chinese seafood dinner; banquet style.

I happened to find The Black Pearl randomly one day earlier this year, while perusing YEG's recommended seafood restaurants, located downtown. Admittedly, I'd never heard of it yet before as it only opened last year, but decided to give it a try as it had pretty decent ratings. My overall experience was very enjoyable, and I have been back several times since, over the past few months.

It's located downtown, in a fairly hipster-friendly, artsy neighbourhood, situated amongst the older buildings where there are many artist's lofts and the like. Parking isn't too bad here at all considering it's downtown-there's meter street parking, and a few impark lots.

The restaurant is easy to miss as it is pretty small and hard to notice from the exterior. When you walk in however, it has a very neat style of decor. It feels like you stepped into a nautical boat scene, like something out of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Though it is a smaller establishment, The Black Pearl has a very well-suited, quaint atmosphere, and it is decorated accordingly.

Drinks here are delicious, the restaurant's personal funky recipes make their signature cocktails unique and tasty. I had a delicious elderflower cocktail, with an edible hibiscus flower in the bottom of the glass, which I fell in love with. My companion ordered a Caesar, which I admit is not my favorite alcoholic beverage, but was apparently incredible. The Black Pearl adds a buttery crab leg to the otherwise traditional drink-making it extra yummy.

The food is obviously predominantly seafood dishes, which I adore, and considering we are nowhere near the ocean, are actually pretty good quality. I've tried a few of their linguine dishes, one with crab and the others with lobster, and an array of pasta sauces. They encourage sharing, as the pasta dishes are quite large, and contain a whole crustacean for $55. Another popular type of seafood they offer are the raw oysters, which I tried here for the first time, and they are definitely an acquired taste! Tuesdays are great to go if you adore oysters, as they offer them for a great buck a shuck deal.

All in all, this is a great little restaurant to try out as a casual dinner by yourself, or with friends, a nice date spot or even for a birthday party. They take reservations, which is a plus, and change up the menus frequently so be sure to give them a try.

Amazing food and great service! Had the tapas and lobster mac & cheese. Sooooooo guuuuud! Would definitely recommend this place and come here again.

The food was fairly good, the decor was wonderful. But all three of us got horribly sick with food poisoning not long often.
I wouldn't risk it again.

I took my wife on a date here for the first time and we were very impressed. Food was tasty everything was fresh and hot. Service was excellent I'll definitely be going back to try other items on their menu.

I’ve been wanting to try Black Pearl since it opened way back in April 2015. Fast forward a year later, I finally made it out for their Tuesday buck a shuck oysters! That’s right, $1.00 oysters all daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Sister restaurant to Café Amore (one of my favourite places in the city), the Crudo brothers second restaurant specializes in seafood, pretty much a rarity in land locked Edmonton.

We hail from the West Coast and have high expectations when it comes to seafood and this place did not disappoint. Ceviche scallops, raw oysters (the eastcoast ones were the best!!) snow crab doused in an addictive oh so good gravy and jumbo shrimp all rounded out to a seafood meal fit for the most seasoned seafood junkie. We will definitely be back! Oh and they also have great drinks! We ordered something that was like a dark and stormy but heaps better but forget the name. We also had a bottle of Pinot Grigio hence the memory problems ;)

Black Pearl is one of my favorite restaurants in the city! The dishes are consistently amazing and the service is always friendly. If you haven't tried their spicy snow crab in jerk cream sauce, you have to! I could eat it everyday. The crab is always cooked to perfection and the sauce is spicy enough to make your nose run, but still delicious.

For those who don't know, this is a sister restaurant for cafe amore. REMEMBER to make reservations as this place fills up fast. Located across from the blue plate diner, this seafood restaurant provides great dishes in great portions. We started with the shrimp tacos that were fairly big - so 1 is good enough for a person. We the had the king crab peppercorn sauce pasta which was a sharing portion size. The flavour in the peppercorn sauce is strong, so for those who like a strong pepper taste this is your dish. They definatly were not stingy on the king crab - both and my friend couldnt finish this dish so we had to pack the rest of the pasta.
For a seafood place, the oysters here are quite non-fresh. The seafood mac and cheese was was overpriced for the size, and based on there being only about six dime-sized pieces of lobster inside. It was also the consistency of watery store-bought mac and cheese. The brussel sprouts and pasta were the high points of our meal. Be sure to ask for a table away from the server station at the rear of the restaurant. Otherwise, you'll get a good splash of mystery liquid on your legs every time they chuck dirty dishes and cups into the 'dirty dishes' bin.

We had the pleasure of trying this restaurant recently for my wife's birthday. I was a bit apprehensive as I am not a huge seafood fan. The restaurant itself is not that big but designed in a way to make you feel comfortable. We ordered 3 items off the menu that included Jerk (Jamaican Jerk sauce) crab legs, King crab legs in a tomato habanero marsala and brussel sprouts that were sautéed with pancetta and tossed in a maple syrup reduction. I forgot to add the king crab was topped with pasta. I thought 3 items would not be enough, boy was I wrong. We ended up taking half the meal home. The portions are large and are meant to be shared. The staff was very accommodating and knowledge when it came to the items in the menu. Our bill came to $130.00 for the 3 items and 4 drinks. We will definitely be going back to the Black Pearl.

Having not been out in a long time, I decided to try Black Pearl, one of Edmonton's newer seafood places. It's located downtown, across the street from Blue Plate Diner. Entering on a Thursday evening around 6pm, the restaurant was half empty! However, it turned out all those tables had been reserved and my friend and I got one of the tables upstairs. There are about 10 seats upstairs, which makes for a more private and quieter dinner (which I enjoyed). The restaurant itself is pretty small, and I loved their fisherman's decor and felt it was very unique.

Service was friendly, chatty, and relatively prompt. The portion size for their mains are quite generous. All their food is prepared in house, which is a nice touch. My friend and I split their tuna sashimi and their seafood macaroni and cheese, which had lobster in it! Their tuna sashimi was unlike any other sashimi I've ever had. There was a hint of spice when you first start eating it, and then the sashimi and veggies blended in to create a lasting taste that is different from the usual sashimi aftertaste. Their Mac and Cheese was also fantastic, with it not being too heavy or salty, but at the same time filling you up and leaving you satisfied (with leftovers!). All in all, two dishes left my friend and I full, and we had some leftovers for the next day. It wasn't too expensive ($30 each after tip/GST) and left us feeling satisfied after we left. I loved this restaurant and can't wait to visit again. Only minor problem would be finding parking and getting in. Recommended.

If you're a seafood lover than this is your place! I've been twice and each time I've loved it. The decor totally fits a fisherman theme. The drinks are amazing and the food is spectacular. Must try the Hibiscus Prosecco and the Jerk Snow Crab. They always have specials that don't disappoint. I've had the scallops in a saffron sauce and it was amazing. I've had a clam dish that was excellent as well! The place is small, but quaint, and worth taking the time to make a reso. Check it out for yourself! Yum yum! 😋

I have been to the amour but wanted to try the black pear because I heard nothing but great things. The decor and service was very good but the food was delicious they definitely have seafood down. The seafood Mac and cheese to die for.

Really good!!! I am all about seafood. Special cold platte. Nice to have this seafood restaurant in Edmonton! For sure we will come again !

After Twyla’s stellar review and my love of seafood, how could I not go? This surpassed all my expectations. Despite any of my critical comments, I absolutely loved this place and can’t wait to go back.

I’m so glad to have another great restaurant in the heart of downtown. And to finally have an exceptional seafood restaurant. The two of us sat upstairs, where they can seat about a dozen people, intimately (crowded), which is just fine if you’re up for it. The décor is stuffed with maritime paraphernalia (unnecessarily), and I’m glad we had a reservation because they were packed! The menu is essentially all seafood, so if your date isn’t a fan of aquatic delights, then you are better off meeting afterwards (or find a better date).

We started off with oysters, fresh and raw, of course. As a lifelong prairie gal (see user name), I am unschooled in the variety of oysters, so we decided on half a dozen of the ones labelled as the Black Pearl’s favorite. The oysters arrived with a variety of sauces, but Twyla had insisted we try the first one naked, so I complied. It was the most magnificent oyster I had ever slurped! I was about to have them all plain, but then decided to try with a little lemon. This one was even better! After tasting all the sauces alone, I decided to try one with BP’s signature relish. This one was the best! Yup, with every oyster they got better and better.

For a seafood restaurant, I was surprised by the amount of flavour on the menu. I like flavour, but I would have preferred if the dishes featured the taste of the quality seafood instead of curry, stir fry, or deep fried. We ordered the Snow Crab with Linguine in a Cream Sauce ($38) , which came in a huge bowl, and was amazing. The crab was soft and sweat, and the linguine was the perfect accompaniment. Plus we had enough for leftovers the next day. We also had breaded and fried Rock Shrimp ($16), which was good and the shrimp were huge, but not stellar. We tried to order a asparagus ($12), but they were sold out, so we settled on potatoes. The addition of a side was completely unnecessary for the amount of carbs in the main entrees. Next time, no sides. And we were promised some olives, which took two reminders to get, and by then we were full.

Is it expensive? Yes. Is it the best seafood in town? Yes. So it’s worth it? Absolutely. I would highly recommend it for a celebration and you definitely need reservations.

It was awesome!!! So fresh!!!! So yummy!!! I can't wait to go back again!!!!!! Everything was so tasty and exciting!!!! If you love cafe snore you will love this place!

Food: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
We didn't reserve a table, so we waited 30 minutes for our table on a Friday night:) food was okay:) lobster mac and cheese was a bit too heavy:) potatoes taste delicious

When you first enter the restaurant, it reminds you of being in the high seas! the nautical theme is done quite nicely with candle lit tables, nets, lobster traps etc... Its quite refreshing to finally have a seafood restaurant. The fresh oysters are amazing with a selection from briny to sweet. All the seafood tasted fresh, the lobster mac n cheese topped off with bread crumbs and a nice tomato flavor.

Like most places that serve seafood, it can get quite pricey.. but its nice to spoil ourselves every so often.
Meems
Went for dinner and the owner was super nice. She made us feel very welcomed and was very proud of their restaurant and food. Food was very delicious but portions were on the smaller size. You can tell that the food is made fresh and cooked with love and passion

We went to The Black Pearl for their first lunch service on Saturday, May 30th while exploring the market. The menu was small but still had some good options. Sadly 2 of the options were tacos. Would like possibly a light pasta on the lunch menu.

Looking for a lighter lunch, me and my girlfriend ordered both of the tacos. One was a shrimp and scallop taco filled with a coleslaw like mix and the other a tiger prawn taco in a special BBQ jerk sauce on roasted corn & lettuce. Both tacos were great tasting and very filling (2).

The Shrimp and Scallop tacos according to my girlfriend were just what she wanted. I'm not much of a coleslaw person so this one didn't do it for me. I did try some of the breaded seafood on top however and it was great, moist and flavourful.

My tacos were excellent. The BBQ sauce was spicy yet sweet and smooth at the same time however after a while it became a little strong. I have never had breaded shrimp this good before. The prawns shredded apart with the light touch and the texture was amazing. This was definitely a winner for me. *PRO TIP* Try it at lunch if it's on the menu because it $15 at lunch and $20 at dinner!

The Black Pearl definitely made a good impression and I will for sure be back for lunch and eventually dinner!

...much anticipated new seafood restaurant in Edmonton. I was very excited to try out this new spot and it did not disappoint. The seafood was amazing! The ambiance was great. Loved the space!

Edmonton's only seafood bar!. Expensive but can't fault the food. You're paying the premium for fresh seafood in a landlocked province, and it does fill a niche in the Edmonton dining scene. Oysters were mouthwateringly delicious with a hoisin based house sauce, and the spicy crab was spicy indeed. Cocktails are great, and the place is still busy 5 weeks after opening.

Absolutely amazing!. We went for the first time tonight and were very impressed! Atmosphere made us feel like we were vacationing on the coast. Great music, outstanding food, great service. We will definitely be back! Forgot to mention the drink menu...Best ceaser i've had! I tasted my husband's drink "the Pearl" which was also incredible! Definitely recommend a reservation!

Great food music and service. We loved this little spot. We work on 104 Street and decided to support a local newcomer . Checked it out last Friday with 6 friends and we loved everything about the place. The food was great. The service amazing and the music created a great atmosphere. The bartender has created a very unique drink menu. You get a very large crab leg in each ceasar. Tried almost everything in the menu and we would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys fresh seafood. We will definitely be going back soon.

Good food but super expensive for the portions you get. I expected more from the Cafe Amore folks. I.e. good portions at reasonable prices. Now on to Steel Wheel to fill my belly.

Delicate, delicious, and fresh, but boy do you pay for it. Edmonton does not have much in the way of seafood places. As it should be! This is the prairies! Steak country. Not some namby-pamby coastal town. All joking aside though, we were sorely in need of quality surf faire in this fine city. The newly openned Black pearl virtually makes up the entire list of quality seafood restaurants in Edmonton (sushi joints not withstanding), and in that fills a very open niche in our cities culinary landscape.
But is it any good? We had a red lobster on the south end for a while and anyone who has been there knows that there is such thing as bad sea food. Well I'm glad to say that the black pearl is delicious, and its freshness shows. Seafood sits on a knifes edge in terms of preparation, a few seconds too long in the boiler can take the average shell fish from raw to perfect to rubbery, and everything I tried on the cold sampler plate was pretty much bang on in that sense. condiments served with the oysters were quite nice and varied, and I have to say for ones I actually enjoyed oyster, the menu sported a wide array of different breeds of oyster to choose from, each sporting their own unique flavour profile, so I am sure there is something for both the discerning connoisseur and the entry-level skeptic alike, and in that it is probably a better option for oyster novices such as myself than trying them at home or other oyster bars in Edmonton (such as Von's). The hot dishes were great as well, I was blown away by the spicy cream jerk snow crab, and sad that there wasn't more of it. that brings us to the drawbacks of the black pearl, this place is expensive. That should come as no big surprise but I was actually pretty staggered by just how much you paid for how very little you got, pound for pound it's the most expensive place I have eaten in Edmonton, and I would even go as far as saying it overcharged and under delivered. with most of the shellfish dishes, while it was fresh and delicious I was really let down by how little meat there was inside the shells, it felt like mere scraps and was definitely less that you find in your standard crab leg, dishes come portioned by the pound and I really felt like I was mostly paying for shell. I spent well over $100 and me and my date both left hungry. I have spent this much at restaurants before but I never have spent that much and left hungry. Never. They could have at least filled us up on a little bread (which was painfully ordinary for such a "high tier" place), but you don't get bread until you order certain dishes and refills only seem to come upon request, so its more like a side dish than a complimentary item. To me, when a customer orders a full meal and leaves hungry, that's a blunder.
Having said that, the next time you are craving good seafood, this is really the only game in town, and as long as you aren't too hungry or maybe if you are dollar-blind then you can appreciate this place for the good, fresh food and not have the experience soured at the end by a quarter-empty stomach and a ghastly bill.

Really cool place. Checked this place out on a whim the other night. Really neat ambiance as well as great chefs. Not to mention the bartender making some of the best cocktails in town. The staff was very friendly. I also liked the host/owner coming by and introducing himself, having a little small talk with us and giving us some education. Excellent experience!

Really happy about the new addition to Edmonton. The staff is exceptional and make you feel like you're walking into their home!

Seafood is one of the great loves of my life.

Regardless of whether it swims, crawls, slithers, or burrows through driftwood and old-timey nautical vessels, if it came from the ocean, I’ll probably eat it. My unhealthy obsession with mollusks aside, it’s no surprise that Cafe Amore’s new seafood bar – The Black Pearl caught my eye.

Before we get too far into the review, however, we need to set a few things straight.

The Black Pearl is...

For those unfamiliar with Cafe Amoré , you’re missing out big time. It’s one of my all time favourites in Edmonton, a place for some great pasta (ridiculously large portions, done really well!) and an atmosphere that matches no other. Brothers Nicola and Cristo Crudo have now opened up The Black Pearl Seafood Bar in the downtown core, right on 104 Street. Lucky me right?

Dining on opening night at a restaurant can be hit or miss, but dinner on Friday night at The Black Pearl was great. The seafood was fresh, hospitality was excellent and it was great to be able to enjoy seafood in a casual atmosphere. Due to the commitment to serving fresh seafood, the menu will change seasonally to reflect availability. An assortment of east and west coast oysters are also available to order by the half dozen ($18) and seafood platters featuring lobster, oysters, Dungeness crab, and Snow crab can be found on the menu as well. Despite being a casual restaurant, the prices are on par with other seafood restaurants and you can expect to be paying around $40-50 per person for a filling meal. Given the quality of the seafood and the fun atmosphere, it’s a great casual spot for seafood lovers to unwind and dine at!
