I went through the 49 day treatment program on April 7th and finished May 26th. I was completely consumed by addiction and was losing everything: any jobs I had, friends, family, relationships, my sense of identity, my will to keep moving forward. I was trapped in a vicious cycle and had no way out. The CDC welcomed me with open arms and invited me to try something new: get clean and dive into my problems and past traumas. Through their DBT and CBT programs I was able to learn a ton about myself and others, and why people act the way they do. How to recognize faults within myself and remedy them or at least work on them. The support from the intake staff, the Recovery Support Workers, the Case Managers, and the brotherhood itself was and continues to be an integral part of my recovery. Without this place, I'd have continued wandering down the dark path I was on. Through the CDC I was able to find my sense of belonging again. My identity. I am able to look myself in the mirror and actually love what is staring back at me now. I've learned that through addiction I was only giving myself quick fixes and never addressing the underlying causes of my addiction. I lost my sister to addiction while I was in program and I didn't leave. I didn't decide to go and self-soothe in the only ways I knew how prior to coming here. Instead, I stayed. The important of connection cannot be understated because without it, I probably wouldn't still be walking this earth. The friends I've made, the things I've learned, the experiences I've had and the people that surround me and continue to surround me I owe all to the CDC. Now I look back on my addiction and have a reason to never go back. Now I have the tools and the foundation to live a life worth living. Thank you, Calgary Dream Centre. For giving me my life back; and most importantly -- myself.

My daughter's girl guides group went there to make care packages for the homeless. We got a tour and learned all about how they help their clients. We were grateful to be able to help out and be there.

For 10 years the Calgary Dream Centre has been giving men the opportunity to change their lives and realize new dreams in community, with their families. As part of the 10 year plan to end homelessness the CDC helps hundreds of individuals each year. This is done through an innovative recovery program, wrap around services and a one of a kind housing program that enables our clients to transition into community with the right kind of support and affordable housing.

In 2003 I put forth a "conceptual" idea to Pastor Kenn Gill, then Senior Pastor at First Assembly Church. The idea was to take a Building, turn it into Low-Cost Housing and run it like a Hotel. The Church congregation voted 100% in favor of buying a piece of property (an old Hotel, go figure) and renovating it into The Calgary Dream Centre. I am blessed to have been a part of it and their slogan is correct. They truly do restore your dignity, help you discover your destiny and realize your dreams. Mine was the Grand Opening. Thanks Carmichael, you rock!!!!!
