I went through the 49 day treatment program on April 7th and finished May 26th. I was completely consumed by addiction and was losing everything: any jobs I had, friends, family, relationships, my sense of identity, my will to keep moving forward. I was trapped in a vicious cycle and had no way out.
The CDC welcomed me with open arms and invited me to try something new: get clean and dive into my problems and past traumas. Through their DBT and CBT programs I was able to learn a ton about myself and others, and why people act the way they do. How to recognize faults within myself and remedy them or at least work on them.
The support from the intake staff, the Recovery Support Workers, the Case Managers, and the brotherhood itself was and continues to be an integral part of my recovery. Without this place, I'd have continued wandering down the dark path I was on.
Through the CDC I was able to find my sense of belonging again. My identity. I am able to look myself in the mirror and actually love what is staring back at me now. I've learned that through addiction I was only giving myself quick fixes and never addressing the underlying causes of my addiction.
I lost my sister to addiction while I was in program and I didn't leave. I didn't decide to go and self-soothe in the only ways I knew how prior to coming here. Instead, I stayed.
The important of connection cannot be understated because without it, I probably wouldn't still be walking this earth.
The friends I've made, the things I've learned, the experiences I've had and the people that surround me and continue to surround me I owe all to the CDC.
Now I look back on my addiction and have a reason to never go back. Now I have the tools and the foundation to live a life worth living.
Thank you, Calgary Dream Centre. For giving me my life back; and most importantly -- myself.

My daughter's girl guides group went there to make care packages for the homeless. We got a tour and learned all about how they help their clients. We were grateful to be able to help out and be there.
