Have only ordered takeout from here so am not sure what it looks like inside. Took 50 minutes at 9pm on a Friday night, seems a bit long to me. Ordered the XL cheese pizza since there was a group of us. At $27 for one pizza with no toppings seems ridiculous. Was a decent tasting pizza but would not be paying that price again.
Been living in the neighbourhood for 5 years now, and Volos has been our staple pizza place from the moment we arrived. Every now and then we'll try something else that's close or newly opened, but always go back to Volos, disappointed from veering away for something different. It's family owned, family run, and they live in the area. They get to know you and are always friendly to deal with.
Exquisite pizzas - pricey though. After reading the numerous positive reviews for Volos, we decided to give it a whirl.
We don't live too far from Volos (10-17 min drive), laziness got the better of us and we opted for Volos' delivery option. Since we were outside of their 'free' range, we had to pay an extra $2 (nominal charge).
The person on the phone was pleasant, and happily took our order. We were informed that it would take between 45 - 60 min, and sure enough it was close to an hour before we got our pizzas.
We ordered 2 XL pizzas, a hawaiian and ham/pepperoni. Upon delivery, the pizzas were still piping hot, and the smell was intoxicating.
Both pizzas were superb, I really enjoyed how Volos cooked the pizzas so that the cheese developed a nice crunchy exterior, but still retaining some gooeyness/stringiness. The crust was impeccable, the bottom was crunchy and 'burnt' (I use the term burnt in a good way) - it was slightly dark golden brown, not burnt tasting but had a very nice solid crunch yet a nice warm bread like interior.
I felt the toppings were a little skimp, but the sauce more than made up for it.
About the only thing that we didn't like was the price, 2 XL pizzas, delivery, tip to driver came to over $50, so it was expensive for 2 pizzas. On the other hand, despite the cost the pizzas were really good and enjoyable.
This is one of the best pizzas in town. We use to live behind this place and enjoyed the fact that the best pizza place was in our backyard. We now live in Cochrane and will still once in awhile drive in just for this pizza.
Very Good. Volos is very good "greek" style pizza Its a family run business....jfmanzo reveiw is very accurate imho so i wont repeat...
Simply the best pizza in Calgary.I have been eating this pizza since the 1960s.My favorite is the Little John. I drive 12 kilometers to get this pizza to bring home. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Best in the area. Good pizza never soggy and always great. 8/10
You will not find a better pie in town least I have yet to find one.. Not to mention run by one of the nicest families you will ever meet.. Recommend Hawaiian with banana peppers go with the large...
Bankview's best pizza. I've lived a few blocks from Volos for more than 10 years but today was the first time I've had their pizza. Wish I hadn't waited so long- it's really good. I got a "large" (that's 12") ham and mushroom. Beautifully assembled pie with a crust that's at once thick focaccia (aka, in Calgary, "Greek") style but is also incredibly crispy. I've never had a crust quite like, just delectable. Toppings were plentiful but not over the top bar pizza, which is fine by me.
Volos isn't the world's best but it's damn competent pizza and a great little institution in Bankview. I'll definitely be back.
Confidential to "Frenchy": Stop making comparisons to Italy or NYC or where the hell ever else in every one of your reviews. It makes you look like a poseur douchebag.
Very good Greek style Pizza. Recommended if you like Greek Style pizza, it's always very good, but not my absolute favorite. They are a little pricey, toppings are a little light, and they're not open on Sundays.
