I'm gonna say it best banh mi place in Calgary maybe in Alberta. Please please give the chicken sate sub a try it's amazing I've had dreams about this sub. The owners are so nice and friendly. Give this place a try and say goodbye to the sub places that rip your mouth apart from those extra crusty baguette!
Trung Nguyen is a tiny Vietnamese spot inside the Far East shopping centre. It’s in the same centre as Auntie’s Chinese Burger which in my books, is a good sign. A regular bubble tea costs $5.00. Kind of weird that there’s no sign for their bubble teas. I came on a Sunday afternoon and was the sole customer. There are a few tables outside where you can eat but I presume most people do a quick grab and go.

Had the Satay Chicken and it was to die for. The friendly and funny lady who owns/runs this joint warned that it was very saucy and not to send her the dry cleaning bill lol. But the sauce level was perfect. And so delicious I couldn't let a drop fall. It was just the right spice and the hint of peanut was on point. I also tried Thi Thi's around the corner which was good but not as outstanding as Trung Nguyen. If I lived in Calgary this would be a weekly visit for me!
I love the subs and the owners at the infamous Thi Thi (Chinatown location), but I also really like Trung Nguyen. The line-up is also shorter than Thi Thi and the service is just as nice. I usually get the Assorted Sub ($5.50) but the Sate Chicken ($7.50) is also an excellent choice. The baggette is soft with a crusty exterior. The ratio of meat and veggie to bread is perfect. The assorted sub comes with cold cut meat, mayo, pickled carrots, onions, jalapeño peppers, and cilantro. I’ve added extra vegetables before but it just throws off that balance of bread vegetables and meat.
Super friendly quick service. Ordered the cold cut combo and was very impressed. Although I found it a bit odd that that the workers were not Vietnamese.

This place is delicious! I had the sate chicken and it was very moist and flavourful. They had added peanut sauce flavour which was a nice change and the spice was great. Will be back!
The owner was so nice and friendly and she even joked around with us, be we've never been there before. It was nice to see her communicate with her regular customers, everyone was laughing and having good time.
Cash only. Both chicken and beef satè subs are equally delicious. Meat is saucy and bread is crusty 👌🏼and from what I recalled there was cheese in it too.

I used to only go to Thi Thi for Viet subs (and I'm boring - I only ever get the assorted) but the long lines at lunch were quite brutal, so I checked out Trung Nguyen one day and seriously has never gone back to Thi Thi. The subs here are just as good (I'm only speaking for the assorted) and I find the service friendlier.
Easily my favourite banh mi (Vietnamese sub) place in Calgary! The shop front may not look like much, but prepare for a long wait alongside the dozens of hungry business folks that stop by for lunch. Trung offers a variety of different subs, but my go-to has always been a classic satay chicken. From the perfectly toasted baguette, to the intensity of their satay sauce, each bite brings forth an unforgettable fusion of taste and texture that will leave you wanting more. Truly a classic gem of Chinatown's food scene!
The weather was crappy on Wednesday but we were both still super excited because it’s finally time for Trung Nguyen! This place serves the best Banh Mi you can get in Calgary. We have been coming here since 2006 and we still love their subs each and every time we go. The owners are super friendly and they remember everyone’s order. She even recognizes John’s voice, so every time he calls she starts prepping our subs.
