Wow!!!! What a hole-in-wall/dive shocker. I've eaten my share of street vendor fish tacos but Mikey's blows any food truck out of the water. I could tell from the first bite the tortillas were not some packaged brand. Unbelievably fresh taste. You know when you don't expect something and then it totally blows you away....this is that kinda place. The atmosphere is what should be expected....damp,hot, sweaty....crowded. It's a juke joint....and the service is great. Friendly and prompt. This is 4 star dining without having to dress up and act like a priss. Check this place out....you won't be disappointed. Oh, and there's live jazz/blues. Epic joint....
I used to live by this place, it was my watering hole. The owner used to make pots of chili on Sundays for football games. It's a cute setting, starting to get a little run down. But they have some pretty cool music, went back the other weekend and saw a decent blues band. The food is still pretty good too, typical pub grub. The kind of stuff you wash down with beer. Kind of miss those days when I could just stagger back home.

This is one of those places that is so far off the beaten track, that you can't get there from here (at least not driving). However, make the effort. It's worth it. We stopped by for an afternoon jam which was fantastic. Like every good jazz/blues place I've ever been to, it's 'cozy' which translates to a narrow hallway room which will always be crowded at the best of times, but on this day, at the back tables are available since the sun has drawn everyone outside to the patio which is full barring one table. So, the right atmosphere, and good tunes. That's great all on its own. But then unexpectedly the food also turned out to be pretty darn good! The fish and chips special was cheaper and better than the last few seafood places I've been to that supposedly specialize in the stuff. Two large plump fillets, lightly seasoned despite being called "Cajun" accompanied by an excellent Caesar salad in place of the fries. The fish tacos were a hit as well and when additional guests joined us and got the nachos, they were above par too completing a much better than average feed. The nachos were $18 and covered with good stuff and jalapenos. This place is a find. Give it a try.
Finally managed to stop into this little place located in the industrial side of downtown. Kind of a Troll under the Bridge thing. The decor is really neat. A combination of jazz and blues memorabilia covers the walls with a small stage built up front.
The place was crowded, which you would expect on a Friday night. The service was quick and friendly. We were not very hungry so just ordered the jambalaya for the two of us. It was excellent. The perfect amount of spice with a generous amount of seafood. The dish was well cooked and the presentation was on point. The price was decent too.
This is a super fun little place and will definitely return. There was a lot of other food we saw but there just wasn't enough of us for all the food we would have eaten.
Great place to eat and have a drink. It doesn't seems like much from the outside but inside the joint it's really cozy. Nice place to hang out
The fish tacos were the best I had in Calgary and Mexico too. The spices in the tacos was addicting. I like how it was crispy but not over-battered, so you could enjoy the still juicy white flesh of the fish. The mix of cabbage and other vegetables were light and fresh. The tortilla had grill marks, giving it a smokey charcoal taste.
Great little hole in the wall with delicious Creole and Mexican style food. The fish tacos were delicious and had a bit of extra spice giving a Creole spin to the Baja Classic. I would order them again without thinking twice. The patio offers great sun exposure during the lunch time hours making it a great spot for a quick work lunch or some weekend beers. Inside it looks like live music is common but if that isn't your thing shoot some pool, play darts or wander around and check out all the interesting old rock memorabilia on the walls.

Consistently Amazing!. The food and music at this joint are always on point! Very authentic tasting Mexican and southwestern food was a welcome surprise at a 7-days-a-week live music venue. The wings come in several scrumptious sounding flavours, I went for the Valentina variety; Meaty! Hot! Perfect! The enchiladas are probably the best thing on the menu; not that I have tried everything, but i can't imagine there being a more flavourful dish than the enchiladas. The beans and rice that accompany this dish definitely deserve to stand beside the main attraction too!
Amazing talent, like Tim Williams, Tom Phillips, and Mike Clark (Mikey) on the regular, are certainly complimented by the numerous other hot acts listed on the weekly board.
The over-all feel of Mikeys is very comfortable. It won't be winning any interior design awards, but thats kinda what is nice. This place surely gives "dive-bar" a positive connotation, especial when filled with such warm, kind, attentive staff. They won't let you get thirsty (so many good beers on the taps), they will fill your belly box with delicious platefuls of goodness, and you will probably make a friend or two while you sit back and tap your toes to some amazing guitar licks and songs sung with soul!
I was a little nervous when we pulled up because it looks kinda sketchy, and a little more nervous when we went in cause its clearly a dive bar, but omg the food was amazing. We did the pulled pork eggrolls to start and I'll be thinking about them for the next week. I went specifically for the soft shell crab PO boy and blue cheese salad and they did not disappoint. We rounded out our meal with more pulled pork eggrolls for dessert! my cocktail was strong and tasty. The band was pretty good too. Didn't love paying $10 a person cover on top of a $85 cheque, but the food was worth it.
Good times. Mikey's is a great time! We went to see Amos and the Eh Team! 20 dollar cover was worth the experience! The opener was fab too :) And the mini tacos and the soft shell crab po boy was delish! Service was great too, I will be back!!
