Sooo good, excellent service, the steak pies are to die for, love that cornish pasty gravy inside. Ironically enough, what I love about British food has never been about fish and chips, you can get those anywhere -- I'm more into steak and kidney or in this case, steak pie, bangers and mash, bubble and squeak, for dessert scones with that fancy whipped cream, or trifle. Have to stop, my mouth's watering too much, other members of our party, about 10 of us church ladies, really seemed to enjoy their fish and chips, it was a lunch out, so we didn't have dessert, just a wonderful time with excellent service...
Best place in Calgary for fish and chips. We always like to go to British Chippy. During summer if you fancy patio dining visit their Okotoks location.

One of the best fish and chips in the city (even without the option for halibut). The sides are amazing especially the Curry Sauce! The fries and both cod and haddock are fried perfectly. Great Tartar sauce with some tang! Even the mushy peas with some salt and malt vinegar were solid! Server we had was wonderful too!
Being from England, having a beer belly and enjoying my Chips I could consider myself to be an expert on them.
Ok bad points about this place - it's overpriced, smallish portions, cramped seating, sometimes slow service and soulless (needs British articles on the walls and Union Jack napkins etc)
Now the good points - it's about the best of the small bunch to get the food as close to British Chips as possible (maybe 65% there). Ignore the bad reviews being left and try this place to judge for yourself.
Great fish, chips and gravy!. Although it is so very far away from downtown Calgary (we use public transit), we enjoy eating at The British Chippy. We always have the haddock and chips with gravy - haven't tried anything else yet - but we have never been disappointed. Some might think it takes too long to get your order (we didn't think so) but it is freshly made and comes to you piping hot and delicious. We highly recommend this place . . . now if only they would move to downtown Calgary!
The Chippy is my go to place when I crave Fish & Chips. Since finding this hidden treasure two years ago I have been back on a weekly basis.
The owners are fourth generation Fish & Chip shop owners and it shows in the authenticity of the food.
A few tips I have for people who have yet to try it include;
1. Eat in (it can be a bit soggy if taken to go). But if you do want it at home just call ahead so it's ready when you arrive.
2. This isn't Joey's Only. The food isn't pre-made. All menu items are cooked to order. The 10-15 minutes is worth the wait.
3. Order an Irn-Bru. It's Scotland's national soft drink and it's awesome.
4. If the owner Gary ( The bald guy) is working the kitchen then your in for a treat. This guy is an artist in the kitchen just watch and see for yourself.
I really enjoy coming here, my only recommendation would be that they offer a few more fries with their orders as Ive left hungry a few times.
Go give it a try, in my humble opinion it's the best Fish & Chips in town.
Love it. My 8 year old daughter loves this place. she didn't even realize she was having fish. all she knows is the crispy and crunchy batter with freshly fried potatoes and yummy gravy as she says.
The haddock and chips were very good, the fish cake was very good and the mushy peas were not my thing but it was reasonably priced and service was friendly and prompt. All food came our fresh and hot.
Best F&C Outside the UK. As an ex-pat, I've spent the last 6 years hoping that I would be able to find a chippy serving "real" British fish & chips that was actually what it claimed to be. After being put off repeatedly in BC, AB & NS by poor imitations that weren't even close, my fiance and I decided to give the British Chippy a shot.
I was overjoyed when I tasted my food. The fish was delicious and the chips were exactly what they should have been. Lots of malt vinegar and a can of Lilt later, I was very satisfied. The portions were a great size - very filling and definitely value for money. The wait time was nothing to complain about - we ordered ahead and the food was ready exactly when we were told it would be, and on another occasion we only had to wait 10 minutes for a walk in order.
Will definitely return!
Came in to night, and was surprised to see it was busy for a Sunday night, I came in with my husband and mother and father, we were greeted st the door by the server who was very helpful, she told us it would be 10-15 minutes wait, but she could take our order so by the time we got to our table our food would be ready, and true this was, we were seated within 5-10 minutes, followed by our drinks and shortly after our food arrived, food and service was both good and I will be returning
The British Cippy. Live in the area, after I tried once I was hooked. Depsite all the reviews about bad wait times, it says right on the webpage to call in for take out. If you do that your fine. If you are expecting fast food this is not the place, if your fine with sitting down then ordering in the resturant has always been fine for me. Food is made to order. I have personally have never had an issue with portion size, certainly not the 25 piece of fries order that some people claim. Overal I would definately reccomend this place to any one who appreciates delicious fish and chips.
Best fish in chips in town!, this is the hand breaded fresh cooked real deal so it does take it a bit of time to get your meal but the wait is well worth it
