It has been awhile since I last update on our Food Crawl that happened back in January. But here I am, back on track! Candy Tree Dessert was our first dessert stop, after all those savory dishes from Hoi An Cafe, CHAU Veggie Express, and Sushi by Yuji. It is located in South Burnaby, and it specializes in Asian-style desserts, such as waffles, shaved ice, and sweet soup (糖水), etc. And we were here to try out its Durian Waffle Tower.

• located along Kingsway (Patterson area north side)
• pay parking along the street or free parking for patrons
• small, cozy place good for small groups 2-4 people
• quick, good service
• food is just ok, its doesn’t have the wow factor
• I had the Mango waffle: mango syrup on the waffle topped with whipped cream then mangoes & mango sauce plus ice cream. Its good for sharing for late night snack $10.45 taxes included
• service tea is included
• overall not bad, will probably not go back anytime soon

We came here around 10pm. There were many customers at late night! Unbelievable!

There were many options on desserts. There were snow ice, hot and cold sweet dressers, waffles and drinks.

We ordered a mango snow ice to share. We could add three toppings to the snow ice. We chose black rice, handmade sweet potato mini balls, and fresh mango. It tasted delicious.

We might come back to try other desserts. There is street parking. It is also close Patterson Skytrain station. Although it is located in the middle of nowhere on Kingsway in Burnaby, it is convenient to come here for desserts, bubble tea and others.

If the restaurant is full, customers may be waiting in line even it is at late night. That's crazy!

Candy Tree Dessert is a tiny restaurant which you can find varieties of desserts. It is located in Burnaby near Metropolis. It has limited parking spaces, and it is usually pretty busy around 8 pm.

Yummy desserts! 😋
Will definitely go back again! 👍

Candy Tree Dessert is a little known dessert shop located in South Burnaby near Patterson Skytrain Station.  Opened just about a year ago, Candy Tree specializes in Asian-style desserts including bubble tea, waffles, shaved ice and more.  For all you durian lovers, their most infamous dessert is the Durian Waffle Tour – more on that later.

I was invited to another Chinese Bites event and this time we hit up Candy Tree Dessert. They are located on Kingsway near Patterson and close to the Patterson skytrain station. I knew they would offer similar desserts to Icy Bar so I was ready to embrace everything! My dessert stomach is always ready.

Dessert and snack cafes are slowly becoming a dime a dozen, what sets a place a part is what determines if it stays or goes. And today at this evening’s media event hosted by “Chinese Bites”, we were going to be able to taste what sets “Candy Tree” apart from its competition. It seems like they carried everything everyone else did, and more. This was your one stop Chinese dessert stop, with all their recipes authentic from Hong Kong.

This place is so close to home but yet I still haven’t had a chance to try it until now! Thanks to Chinesebites for the invitation to taste a few of their feature items. All desserts are inspired by recipes from Hong Kong. Here are the dishes that my table go to try:. Bubble Waffle with matcha and red bean

Yesterday, Joko, Tuna and I went over to Candy Tree on Kingsway for dessert. This restaurant opened about half a year ago, but is already gaining popularity. We went at around 9:30 and the place was completely full! It’s quite a small shop, and if we came any later, we would’ve been waiting at the line up that formed shortly.

They have a wide variety of snacks and desserts, including Hong Kong street food, shaved ice, bubble tea and other drinks, waffles, and traditional Chinese “tong sui”, or sweet soup.

Between the three of us, we ordered a hot and cold dessert.

Their shaved ice is customizable between flavours (milk, matcha, mango, strawberry) and a variety of toppings. The base price of $8.50 comes with 3 toppings, and each additional costs $1. We went for the matcha snow ice with grass jelly, rice balls, and mango. The texture was very interesting- the ice was shaved into blankets of delicious creaminess. I loved the bittersweetness of the matcha, but if you prefer sweeter things like Tuna, you could ask for condensed milk. (4/5)

The hot “tong sui” we got was Coconut Cream with Black Glutinous Rice (椰汁黑米露). I thought the sweetness was just right, but Tuna kept adding condensed milk to sweeten it. :P I felt that the consistency was too liquidy though. (3/5)

I would definitely return to try some more things, probably something savoury. It’s a close comparison to Icy Bar down the street, but with a bigger, more extensive menu, so if you like their food, I would recommend Candy Tree to you as well. The service was alright, slightly slow but still friendly.
