I recently saw a sasaya booth at the Taiwanese festival downtown on Granville. I ordered the lemon winter melon tea with grass jelly. Absolutely refreshing in the hot sun. I definitely recommend this if you can't drink caffeine, like my girlfriend.
I tried out their fried chicken nuggets and they are addicting lol. Then the sausage... It was alright. A touch salty. The rating was almost a 4. The sausage was the downer.
Love this place. They have been part of the community since I have moved here and I have seen many restaurants come and go but they have stayed! Yes, the inside isn't fancy but they have had new renovations and menu look in the last month. It's taken them a while to do that as they are small and really don't get much business except word of mouth. Advertising is all well and good as long as you have the money to do more than just free advertising.
I go there so many times, it's the best place to have deep fried squid, my favourite.
Just recently they had donated three trays of food for the grade 7 grads of Nelson Elementary school. The people there are great to talk to, great service, hot tea, great food, and the ambiance is like a good little restaurant that you would feel like from the 80's . Just like home. Whenever I have the cash, I go there as all their food is so good!
I would give this Korean/Taiwanese restaurant a score of 3.5.
Talk about what I like the most about this restaurant first and the least favourite things the last.
Service - excellent! The Taiwanese servers took good care of the orders and customers' needs.
Pricing - reasonable pricing for bigger portion of the food. Minimum order is $3.50 per person. It is a little bit cheaper than other Korean/Taiwanese restaurants.
Food - there are a lot of varieties on the menu. The most popular dishes are their hot pots. My friends and I ordered seafood fish hot pot, seafood udon pot and seafood kimchi pot for dinner. All the of them were good. We just waited for a long time for the food. We realized that customers at other tables were the same who had been waiting for a long time for their food as well. Perhaps the chefs needed to put a lot of time and effort to prepare and cook the food in the kitchen??
Ambiance - family type of atmosphere. The interior design is not fancy at all or there is no renovation inside. It looks a bit old inside overall.
Location - further away from Kingsway and not a lot of people know about this place. They might want to do some advertisements online and offline (my recommendations).
It's ok to go back for meals. That's my conclusion.
