This Szechuan restaurant is known for its chilly dishes.
We went there for the first time and ordered deep fried chicken and pork intestine in chilli pepper. To complement the experience, we also ordered braised pork belly marinated with preserved vegetables. The food is delicious especially if you enjoy hot food. The prices are reasonable.
The ambience is moderate.

Alvin Garden's been on my "to eat" list for 2 years!! Who else has a "to eat" list? Priorities people, priorities!! ;) . So after much anticipation, we finally made it to Alvin Garden for lunch (and then dinner) the other day!! Being a Hunan restaurant, almost everything on the menu is super spicy! If you think you can handle the heat, ask for "da la" which literally translates into: big spicy (but don't say I didn't warn you!) My dad asked for medium spicy "zhong la" and it turned out to be way spicier than we were expecting. My mom was like "Why didn't you ask for mild??!!" My parents stopped eating halfway into the meal because they just couldn't take it anymore harhar. We actually "washed" the cauliflower with tea to tone down the spice ;)

This is hunan cuisine, and again it's hunan it's not szechuan, there's a resemblance in spice but totally different in taste in my opinion. Most of the food are spicy over here, choosing mild for me is always the best option as i'm not a big fan of sweating and gulping down water while eating if possible. usually i let my friend order in this place, because she likes eating over here, however the items that she choose most of the times even though it's mild/medium, i have a challenging time downing the spicyness without a big chunk of rice mixed with the food.
overall the food is good i'll say, above average, however what i don't really like is the part of the cuisine is that it's a little bit sour, not sure what it's from but there's a very mild taste of sour beside from spicyness and saltiness.
overall i don't recommend the restaurant, this is just a personal preference of mine, but at the same time i have found many of my friends like this place. the pic is taken during dec of 2013 ish with spicy diced chicken dish. as you can see it's all spicy spice on top of the chicken :D
Upon entering, from the smell, you can tell you're in for a ride. If you like spicy, flavorful, greasy food, then definitely come here. Although, sometimes I find the food can be quite salty.
Large portions, tasty food. I'm not too picky with which area of china the food is from or how authentic it is. The food here is more on the spicy side. Lots of dishes come out looking like meat swimming in a pool of chili oil or stir fried in red chili pepper. Looks interesting but tastes great! This place has large portions, great tasting food at decent prices. Lots of large tables for big groups. Parking is a bit tricky though. Would love to come back!
Unpretentious, fairly priced, fresh, good quality spicy comfort food in a clean place - what's not to like? My favourite place in Burnaby for lunch.
Best for the lunchtime specials. I do like Alvin Garden. The food is very tasty though they overdo it on the salt and grease. My wife now asks them to put in less salt and oil which they do for us, fair enough. The prices are on a bit on the pricier side which is why we tend to go there at lunchtime. Their lunchtime specials are a great deal. My personal favourite is the cumin beef. It comes with a simple tomato and egg soup which is sometimes good, sometimes too salty or, like today, like a bowl full of hot water with some tomato and egg thrown in. My wife likes the mapo tofu. If we order from the regular menu, my favourite dish is the pan-fried spicy chicken. Service is usually prompt and efficient, though you never get a smile and the waitresses do seem a bit rude. But hey, if they're offensive, then you take it out of their tip.

The flavour was quite strong for all dishes but I thought it was mainly because of the spices that were used. It was quite an enjoyable meal for sure.
They tried to provide solutions for “Monk’s” spice issues and the food was tasty, the service was fast and I look forward to returning.
