Sometimes waiters and waitresses were focused chatting.
Brokenrice Vietnamese Restaurant located in Burnaby Heights serves up contemporary Vietnamese cuisine. They take classic dishes and transform it with modern cooking techniques while incorporating local and sustainable ingredients. It’s been a staple in the neighbourhood and I revisited last month to see if it was as good as I remember from years ago.
Spring rolls, $7.50: Sangria, Cocoa, and I shared the spring rolls which came with minced pork, taro root, mushrooms, and more. They came very crunchy- piping hot and fresh!House pho, $9.95: Cocoa and I both had the house pho, which was delicious! It came with a decent amount of rare beef, brisket, and beef balls. The broth was perfect and not too salty.Grilled beef short ribs,
Came on a Friday night and it was surprisingly busy. Fortunately we had a reservation for a table of 5. The food came slowly probably because the kitchen was busy with the crowd. We found the food all have a hint of Chinese style even though they are Vietnamese food.
This is a hidden gem in the Burnaby Heights area. There are not too many Vietnamese restaurants that have a variety of interesting dishes other than the usual pho. This is a quiet restaurant which is great to meet for a catch-up lunch or dinner with friends. The service is attentive and fast. The best items on the menu are the salad rolls, which are generous in size and tastes fresh as well as being nicely presented, and the butter jalapeno basil chicken wings which are fabulous and crispy. Surprisingly, the pho is quite average in taste and a bit bland and watery.
The only thing I would recommend is having some pictures on the menu because I wasn't sure what the items were based on just the minimal descriptions alone.
Best deep fried rolls I've ever had. The pho is really good, too. Polite and quick workers with a nice looking establishment. My go-to Vietnamese restaurant.
Friendly staff and good quality ingredients. The favour is was tasty and well portioned. The highlight is the quality of the meat used and the amount given. When compared to the majority of other viet places it seems like this restaurant has better quality. That being said the price also reflects this. Overall very satisfied with the experience. Will definitely revisit.
Ordered Green Papaya Salad, Cassava Fries and Saigon Beef Stew Noodles. Everything was really fantastic. Its reasonably priced, substantial portion and bold flavours. I'm not a huge fan of spicy food and I found that the salad was just right for me. That being said some may think it's not spicy enough compared to other papaya salads.
Cassava fries could use a little more seasoning, but its still very delicious. Texture is like a tougher taro with a less starch taste than potatoes. Highlight was the beef stew that was absolutely perfect in flavour. Hearty beef flavour with a slight tang. Noodles weren't overcooked and sat well in the lovely light savory broth.
Service was great. Met the female owner of the place. Wonderful lady who was super down to earth and humorous. Definitely coming back :)
yummy!went for a birthday party so I got to try a few things. I ordered a lemongrass chicken rice. size was good n it was tasty. tried a bit of my dad's curry chicken, quite spicy but it's so so good! also order the duck slider n the spring roll. both very good. will definitely come again!
It's been a while since my first and only visit here, but I recall the frog legs being quite delicious! My fiance and I had just arrived back from a trip to Portland where we had tried (amazing) frog legs at French restaurant Le Bistro Montage, and these were just as good.
We went on a Sunday night kinda last minute. We got there about 730pm and they close at 9, with last call at 830.
Lots of street parking.
We walked in the restaurant was dimly lit and we were the only table. They sat me and my girlfriend by the window. Service was good. Family operated, one brother in the front the other in the kitchen.
Hot tea to the table and real menus.
The menu is quite big and my girlfriend who is Vietnamese said all the dishes are legit. We ordered beef carpaccio, pork belly sliders, bhan xeo, and a beef on rice dish. The beef was so tender. Cooked perfectly.
All the dishes were great, with the pork belly sliders a little less great.
Price point $$, portions were good size.
Would go back. Location is good for family, dates, or business lunch.
A good place to bring your date as the resto gives off a fancy vibe (dim lights+cutleries folded in those hotel dinner cloth napkins) unlike other Vietnamese restos. Although pricier than other viet places, their service and food are great👍🏻 I’ll come back again to try more food items!
So good! I had the Chicken & Prawn Brochette. It was so fresh and flavourful. A giant plate of food for a reasonable price, that doesn’t leave you feeling heavy afterwards. I highly recommend.
I love the vegetarian bun meal here, it's so delicious. Their spring rolls are the closest I've found to the legendary now closed Bau Chau's and that's a treat! Other veggie options are available as well which is very nice, not always available in Vietnamese restaurants. My husband and friends have enjoyed every meat meal as well especially the lemon grass beef and the house bun. Salad rolls are solid too and the food is plentiful, which is worth the more pricey meals (but everything is going up in price so to be expected!).
My family and I found this place by chance while walking in the area. We have dined in a few times, and have ordered delivery thru Uber too. They have something for everyone one, even those in the family who don't eat pho soup. They have amazing sliders that come in duck or pork belly... they're small but pack full of flavour. They place and staff are nice and I'm happy to support them.
Burnabys best and brightest!
Don't believe the "$$" rating, this is one of the best vietnamese restaurants within Van I have grubbed at in a LONG time and it's incredible value for money!
First, the restaurant is extremely lovely inside with fantastic authentic grass roots decor, a very nice cozy, relaxed and laid-back vibe with a nice community and family orientated feel. The staff are extremely talented, extremely friendly and very helpful - they make awesome yum food!!
The menu is precise and accurate, nails all the best Vietnamese cuisine and caters very evenly for veggies.
We started on the Gỏi cuốn (Vietnamese Fresh Shrimp Salad Rolls) in which we kept the shrimp as pescaterians. The peanut sauce was absolutely incredible, so delicious and the rolls are beautifuly presented, absolutely stuffed with incredible tasting flavors.
We then both tucked into a Bún Chả Giò Chay (Vegetarian Vermicelli) which is my new favorite place to eat this dish. A huge plentiful portion and a great balance of refreshing salad with noodles oozing in spicy soy and fish sauce, but some huge crispy spring roll and tofu squares tucked inside. AWESOME!! This was huge in which my wife had to take some home in a doggy bag.
I topped off this fantastic dining experience with a Slow Drip Vietnamese Iced Coffee which was absolutely incredibly delicious. It's so rad. You get to watch it Drip during the course of you eating your main dishes and finishes in the perfect time your tastebuds are craving sweetness at the end, especially in this current heatwave! It was the perfect delicious balance of sweet milk with bitter but delicious authentic coffee.
Next time I'm trying the Cold Red Bean Dessert for sure, that sounds rad!! Love this place and the staff.
