I’ve lived next door for years, but have never tried it. Today, on a whim, I walked in and got a couple things. Let me say, this was the catalyst to the most incredible culinary experience I’ve ever encountered. Their raspberry vanilla cake is hands down the most delicious thing I have ever put in my mouth. I’d sell my soul to have a never ending supply and I fear I’ve made a terrible wallet and waistline destroying mistake by discovering that the gates to heaven lie a one minute jaunt from my home. May the lord grant me the strength to not eat a whole raspberry vanilla cake every day.
It’s my favourite bakery - everything is wonderful. Morning buns, scones, cookies, cakes, tarts and pastry... I get into all sorts of trouble with my will power as soon as I walk in the door! It’s always worth the trip!
I went to a brunch yesterday and a friend had picked up a bunch of pastries from the Pennyloaf Bakery. Everything was absolutely divine. Their rhubarb danish was to die for. I will definitely be stopping in here the next time I am in the area!
The country sourdough breads are pretty much mind blowing, but at the price point they're reserved as a once in a while treat. I've tried the cookies and they were tops; my favourite was the peanut butter.
Amazing! Plenty of banana flavour, lots of chocolate chips and the added touch of banana chips on top! Super moist even the end pieces; yum!
Had my eye on this place for a little while after running across their Instagram page and finally managed to stop in today. Just grabbed a couple small treats seeing as they were sold out of most after a busy morning during the holidays. Our treats were great and the staff were all friendly and pleasant. Will definitely be back again to try different selections!
This cute new bakery recently opened up in late October 2015 on Corydon close to the intersection of Lilac and Corydon. It's a small-batch artisan bakery produces old-world style bread and bakery products baked fresh daily on a wood-fired brick oven. I haven't tried their breads yet but it's made with wild yeast (traditional sourdough leaven) and has no additives or preservatives. Baguettes and sour doughs adorn this place. Croissants will be coming soon but aren't on the menu at the moment. They sell cookies, scones, danishes, tortes, whole cakes can be ordered and even sandwiches to go.
The shop is tiny but beautiful - I'm a sucker for bakeries. Now I will warn you that the prices are kinda steep compared to other bakeries around the city (at least for the items I purchased). I was very intrigued by their heavy cream dark chocolate scone that went for a whopping $4.25 - yes, that's for one normal sized scone. Now, I was hoping to hate it since it was so pricey but it was really delicious. The dark chocolate did not overwhelm the scone. The scone had a lovely taste and was at the perfect moisture level. It was really good but that price is hard to justify for me. Also tried a peach danish with some custard filling for $5 - this was not a flakey danish but more like a soft bread bun style, which I liked but my sister preferred a more flakey danish. The filling was very well balanced and not overly sweet but once again at $5, it was a bit steep. They sell a variety of cookies and the one that caught my attention was the milk chocolate chip cookie with pretzels and potato chips ($1.75 each). This was a soft but dense cookie that was sweet from the milk chocolate and while I didn't get a lot of pretzel and chips, the latter items provided a bit of texture to the typical cookie.
Service is incredibly friendly here and despite the higher than expected prices I will be visiting them again and trying other items. It's a quality product and everything I tasted was good.
They are open Wed-Fri 10 am- 6 pm and Sat 9 am- 5 pm.
Fresh warm bread direct from the hearth stone oven everyday. You can choose different bread flavours. The blue cheese with nuts and poppy seed breads are two of my favorites. They also serve deli sandwiches and pastries, and coffee too. Nice friendly staff. I recommend this place for bread lovers.
We LOVE this bakery! We have been here many times (more than I'd like to admit) since we moved to the neighbourhood!! The pineapple coconut scones, vanilla bean scones and chocolate chip cookies are to die for! Great sourdough breads as well.
My husband and I happened to be walking by this local shop this week, we decided to go in and check it out. We bought several items, French bread, cookies, scones, etc. I have to say everything was amazing, and the bread itself the best fresh homemade tasting bread I have had in years. After this bread, I can't see ever buying the mass produced tasteless bread ever again. I highly recommend Pennyloaf!
I love the freshness of this place! I'm a croissant fan and this place makes amazingly crusty and flakey croissants! They also serve breakfast croissants! The only downsides to this place is that it's open only 5 days of the week. But in some ways it's good because it keeps people craving it!
What a great selection of baked goods!
Bright and clean shop, friendly and helpful staff and great tasting goods.
My personal favourite is blubbery scones with rosemary. Would never think of it is a good combo and probably wouldn’t try if the girls there didn’t recommend it. Thank you! It’s so yummy!
Pennyloaf is one of my favourite bakeries in the city. They are one of the few places that I have seen with traditional sourdough.
Best bakery in the city. Their cookies cant be beat and everything they makes tastes like its made with good quality ingredients. The staff is friendly and I appreciate they are being cautious during the pandemic with only one person allowed. They also have curbside which is a big plus right now.
I love their scones and cheesesticks!!! The cheddar & jalapeño one is amazing.
Best sourdough bread in Winnipeg. They have a great assortment of sourdough with new varieties and/or seasonal rotation. Love their assortment of cookies and pastires.
