Stopped by for lunch as a total fluke because we were shopping in the strip mall. Having never been inside, I had assumed this spot was a hole-in-the-wall based just on its sign. I was surprised by how large the restaurant is, how clean and well maintained it is and most of all impressed by the excellent, friendly service. Simple, straightforward diner food was done right. Considerate servers went above and beyond to make my 4.5 yr old (and myself!) feel welcome. I had a fresh, crisp salad, fries and egg salad sandwich, kiddo had a perfect grilled cheese. Nice that sandwich platters offer choice of two options: fries, potatoes, salad, soups, etc. and that sandwiches come with choice of white, brown or rye.
Really pleasant experience, and so nice to stumble on a well run family restaurant.
It's a diner so diner food. I find their food tasty and well prepared. One thing though, we had the cheeseburger and although it had great flavour and fresh toppings the burger patty was very thin and small. Would order burger again if I knew this was changed up. New decor. Cute place. Just put some burger on the bun.
Small diner, nothing fancy. The service is friendly, informative and makes you feel like you've been there 100x. The patio would be a cool place to enjoy a lunch, but it was filled with smokers who kept coming in and out to get coffee refills. So the second hand smoke was filling up the restaurant...gross
The restaurant diner needs improvements, a fresh coat of paint would brighten up the place in a big way. The bathroom needs a refresher too & it doesn't have a change table for babies.
However, if none of that bothers you too much (and it didn't me) then make sure to order the Rueben Sandwich & fries, delish!
We added on a Caesar salad (tasty but it had those imitation bacon bits on top, could have done without them) and the onion rings (good, but nothing mind blowing).
The bill was $22 before tip
Went with my guy and his two kids. We all enjoyed our meals. Great home style comfort food. We will all definitely go back and recommend to friends and family.
I'm never out this way but ended up there on the 22nd taking my dad for a haircut and then breakfast. I had a usual plate of eggs, sausage, toast and hash browns. I know an old-school breakfast. But they nailed it!! Fresh cut up potatoes lightly grilled up no frozen mceedeez here! Then the eggs asked for them over easy and again cooked right on. Coffee was ok and the service was superb. I'd eat a breakfast there again and maybe try a lunch too. The prices were decent too.
The breakfast omelet and hash browns beat The Red Top's! The coffee is second to none. The service was great. We will definitely be back for breakfast at least!
When we go to Jolly Mug, we go for breakfast. The few times we've tried lunch or supper we were less than impressed, but we try to make it out once a month for their breakfast. Their special is normally a lot of food for a great price.
Breakfasts are a busy time, but you normally have to wait about five minutes for a seat if there's none open. Food comes out fast and is always hot.
Used to go to the original Jolly Mug on Fermor when I was a kid. Finally got around to visiting this location. Very busy today. We both ordered breakfasts. We were advised that the food might take a while because of how busy they were which was nice to know. Our coffee was kept full and hot while we waited. Real potatoes cooked on the flat top was nice to see, and the portions are great. I ordered poached medium and they were cooked perfect. Poached egg purists should be aware that the eggs are steamed in a cup. Not a problem for me, the result is close enough to poached. Everything was hot and tasted great. The service was very friendly and prompt. I will be back. Won’t wait 37 years this time.
Excellent breakfast food, good price. You get a lot of food. Atmosphere is cozy but clean. Staff are very friendly. It has an old time feeling. 100% recommended.
This place is so cute and yummy! The breakfasts cannot be beat. The servers are so friendly, the kitchen staff look like dope people. Also very clean.
Nice little stop for breakfast in St. Vital. Food is fresh, hot and delicious and the coffee flows ample. They have burgers and dinner offerings too but I couldn't resist the call of pancakes and back bacon.
That was a picture of chef's salad it was very good.
We ordered the soup, some sandwiches and the Hungry Man breakfast. Everything was absolutely delicious and the server was lovely. Would highly recommend!
UPDATE: It got better, thank you! Love going back every time.
Food quality has gone done since the pandemic. I really enjoyed coming here before, but something has changed. I’ve tried ordering food online through Skip twice and dinned in but every time there was something wrong with the orders. Either missing whole items, food not being cooked properly or just incorrect orders. Maybe the cook doesn’t care? I don’t know. I just hope things improve because I do enjoy this place. I would love to change this to 5 stars, but I will wait until things improve.
