What a wonderful little place for s Saturday breakfast nosh! We had the BBQ Beef Hash for our meal. Has a hint of sweetness from the sauce. Topped with two “””Poifect!””” Fried sunny side eggs just runny enough to soak into the beef. Nice thick slice of homemade toast on the side! Bottomless cups of organic dark roast coffee.
WE SHALL RETURN!
Food - I shared the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich and the Corned Beef Sandwich. The Montreal Smoked Meat was incredible, on par with anything I've had in Montreal (maybe a close second to Schwartz's). The Corned Beef was a little bland, especially when comparing it to the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich. Go with the MSM sandwich and you will not be disappointed. Can't speak to anything else, but why would you go to a deli and not get a deli-style sandwich.
Service - solid service for a weekday lunch. Staff was perfectly attentive.
Decor/ambiance - nice contemporary diner. Not necessarily fancy, but has the desirable deli feel (cooking area is visible, bar-top seating, etc...)
Tip - DOUBLE THE MEAT
Thank goodness for this place! Was craving just a sandwich for lunch, but something tasty and non-Subway-ish. What Sherbrook Street Deli has done I think is the key to any small eatery. Take simple food, and make it really well. I had the chicken salad sandwich and the bread was so soft, the chicken salad was so good and perfectly seasoned, and the side chips were homemade, salty and so crunchy (They were perfect ON the sandwich!), the coleslaw was a classic vinegar coleslaw (boo to creamy coleslaw!)...and the pickle is what I expect from a deli pickle. Everything just completely met my expectations and more. I didn't even require supper I was so full and satisfied the rest of the day. (Maybe because i over ate? lol...who cares, it was so good!)
My one small complaint, if you can call it that, was my sandwich just had too much mayo on it. I don't mind a little, but it hardly needed it and resulted in the mayo seeping through the holes of the rye bread and getting all over my fingers and quite messy. Next time I'd likely order without the mayo on the bread.
Needless to say...this was a total win! I will definitely be back.
Best lox and bagel in the city hands down. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Great soups and sandwiches as well. Friendly service - great spot in west Broadway.
Love this place. My husband and I have eaten here twice now and it is quickly becoming our "go to" restaurant. They do all of their meat in house and it is incredible! The quality is amazing. I've done the combo that comes with chips, coleslaw and a huge pickle each time and it goes so well with the huge sandwiches. My husband has gotten the corned beef and I've tried both the hot beef salami and the pulled beef sandwich. All were incredible and an awesome value. We like how simple yet decadent the meals are.
The restaurant atmosphere is also great. The décor is nice and suiting for the food, and it's always clean. The staff is also great each time, even asking what music we want them to play since we were the last ones in there. Good food and good times.
really cute place, not a ton of seating but we didn't mind waiting. bigger groups is a bit of a problem as we were 6 people and eventually made a 4 person table work.
everything was fresh; you can see the line fixing up your sandwich at the open counter. the in-house made chips are really thin and don't really seem seasoned which was okay because you get a really big pile and eventually i think salt would make your lips raw. i enjoyed topping them with the spicy in-house made mustard.
we all got something different on the menu and it all was enjoyed. i opted for the house made soda, i cant say it was anything special. it seemed like what i create at home with some club soda and a flavoring but i did appreciate the bottomless factor so i could try a few flavors.
Fantastic first visit after months of drooling over the deli's Instagram feed. Sat at the counter and had the pleasure of watching the cooks at work. I had the tender turkey breast (real turkey!) on handcut rye, flavourful potato salad and a generously-sized dill pickle. My partner had matzo ball soup (yummy but a wee bit salty) and the melt-in-your mouth hot corned beef on rye with a heap of crispy kettle chips. So good we couldn't keep from smiling between bites! Last month we visited another "iconic" city deli and Sherbrook Street Deli put them to shame in terms of flavour, presentation and overall experience. Wow! You ticked all the boxes for us. We'll be back soon.
I came here for the first time at the end of June. Loved it. Visited twice since then and Saturday I had mixed feelings about it. The first time and second time we came here the food was great, the portion size was great, the service was great. When I came back last week and brought my cousin and boyfriend. I was raving about how great it was and they came out a little disappointed. The food was good and so was the service but ordering our meal for take out...I was a little disappointed with the portion size. The other two times we went it was like a huge amount of food and we had leftovers. This time the sandwiches were much smaller, the amount of kettle fries we had was about half the amount from our previous visits and the coleslaw in the take out container with the kettle fries and sandwich made everything kind of soggy. Overall, the food was delicious but the inconsistency with the portion sizes is a bit weird.
Went here for the first time last week and this place literally blew my mind. We sat at the bar during a busy lunch hour and watched these guys just whip out sandwiches like it was no ones business. Got the smoked meat platter and I'm tell you, my whole life has changed. Come in, try an expensive sandwich but its damn good. Getting extra pickles next time and trying their matzo ball soup. I'm hooked
Delicious!!! My favorite is the regular smoked meat. Corn beef and the salmon lox are also delicious. If you like liver/pate, it's a tasty addition to the sandwiches. The servers are nice and the restaurant has a relaxing vibe.
Just came in to grab a coffee to go, but the vibe and great staff convinced us to stay for brunch. Definitely glad we did! The smoked meat was perfection (with the best house made mustard). Latke and homemade bread. Their menu seems sandwich based, so if the small brunch menu is an indicator, this place would slay it.
Wonderful! I waited long time but my server's service was perfect! food is wonderful! one of my best place now.
This is my 2nd time here. Very nice but small deli. The meat sandwiches and potato chips are very good as well as Mish mash soup
Imperial cookies are delish. Parking not great as on a pretty busy street. I like the area. Waitress very nice
I love this place. I brought my daughter here thinking that I would be the one most enjoying myself, knowing that the menu was geared toward adult fare. Not only did they accommodate my 6-year-old's requests but they were so kind and lovely about all of it. When they closed briefly this fall we were so sad to have to find a new lunch spot; I am thrilled they're back, and open to taking requests for Lox.
Our favourites were the Salmon Lox bagel, the smoked meat sandwich, and the soups and soda flavours. I'm hoping that after their return they'll be here to stay. As a vegetarian, it's been lovely finding a place that I have a handful of items I can eat and enjoy(They now have a vegan sandwich) that both my daughter and I love, but that's so cozy and local.
A go-to for anyone living-in or visiting Winnipeg.
Love this place. Been to Schwartz's in Montreal? Me too. The smoked meat in this place is better, I'm my opinion. Service can be a bit slow, hence the 4 stars, but food wise they're a 5. I recommend the hot mustard on the smoked meat, but the regular mustard won't ruin the sandwich, by any means.
If they're busy, stay away from the sodas...They ARE delicious but they're all hand made, so you might end up waiting a while.
Loved the food. My taste buds had hard time keeping up with the different flavors it was getting. Had the pickled tongue with liver (the wienstien ) plus fried salami. Also the chips were very good and crispy, I think In house cut and cooked, our server was very friendly.
Who I assume was the owner or manager was super accommodating. My sister was looking for Vegan options and he made her a delicious sandwich off menu. And the corned beef sandwich was delicious. A little pricy for a deli, but for the service and quality I was more than pleased.
I went to the Sherbrook Street Delicatessen because of an article written in our local newspaper (Winnipeg Free Press). The writer had nothing but good things to say so I thought I should give it a shot. I had the Winnipeg smoked meat sandwich and it was incredible. The marble rye bread was fresh and the smoked meat was very juicy and tender. The hot mustard finished it off perfectly, I will be back for lunch again soon.
