I booked a table for my son’s 16th birthday, The service was phenomenal, the food was fantastic, all the staff passing by stopped and said happy birthday to my son, I totally recommend this place, wow I am so coming back
Food was excellent and our server Christian was so very helpful with suggestions about what to eat! Great view was an added bonus. Closing on October 7 so hurry in!
Burger week is upon us and it seemed the time to finally participate! Four of us played the elimination game and narrowed it down to Mon Amie Louis about which I was delighted, having very much wanted to try this place. Their Sugar Shack burger has a delicious beef patty topped with maple sweet pulled pork, cheese, sweet potato chips, etc. The potato chips were lost among the other flavours and textures but the burger was, on the whole, quite delicious though the bun was thin so the juices came through the bottom and too wide in diameter as much of it surrounded instead of topped the burger.
Mon Amie Louis is run by a former instructor at the Red River College culinary school who was let go last year or so prior to opening the bridge restaurant. Yes, the reason is somewhat public and can be found. No, it will have nothing to do with your food or dining experience. The students from last year (many of whom are acquaintances) under his supervision thoroughly enjoyed his teaching and his passion and it is clear that he takes these with him to the restaurant. The reason I bring it up at all is to dissuade anyone from making assumptions as I have heard some do. The restaurant is run with professionalism and passion and you should go.
That being said, obviously parking is an issue and for those with limited mobility it is not a good option. The venue is, however, very nice and rather a treat. Service is prompt and good. The menu is limited but everything is done with care and everything each of my party members ate was deemed delicious. One friend said she would drive the half hour each time just for their duck gravy poutine so you can assume it was delightful. She enjoyed it so well she forgot to offer her husband any.
At the end of the evening, I can say I would certainly go back and I look forward to trying other things on the menu.
Nice place! The people seemed a bit surprised when we walked in off the street for a bite. Had the crepes benedict which I thoroughly enjoyed. The view certainly helps things.
The bun was amazing, moist on the outside and crispy inside. The burger was excellent with a serious thick crust. Its flavour was top notch - juicy and lightly seasoned. BBQ sauce made the burger.
Great French place to go in Winnipeg. I haven't tried many french places...or any really. There isn't a lot of variety in Winnipeg for this type of cuisine.
I love the area. Beautiful walk there and a nice gelato place on the other side of the bridge for dessert :)
We tried the duck wings, flat bread pizza, brie, spinach almond salad, poutine and salmon.
The spinach salad was to die for! Also it filled me up, which is weird for me. It takes a lot of food to fill me up.
Poutine was delicious, made with duck gravy.
Pizza was good but I've had better. Im used to greasy cheesy pizza, but this flat bread is a healthier option.
Duck wings were meaty and yummy and messy.
Brie is always delicious. Fresh bread with it and lovely fruit mixture to go on top of the brie.
It is quite pricey. This is more of a fancy, special occasion place to go to on a night out. We dress up but there are people who do not.
Dinner for 3 people was about 100$.
Still love to go here on a special night out for french food :)
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and we thought we'd give this place a try because of its view. It definitely did not disappoint. The service was fantastic, The view was beautiful and the food was amazing. I had the pulled pork poutine, I'm a huge fan of poutine and this was the best I've ever had. My sister had the traditional pizza, she also stated it was the best pizza that she's ever had. This is my new favorite restaurant, I will definitely be going back.
The Swizzle Styx dined here today and we loved it! We had been here before when it was both the Sals and Chez Sophie so we were aware of the beautiful decor and wonderful views. The service did not disappoint, our server was efficient and friendly. The food was fantastic! We found the portions to be more than enough and definitely left full and happy. We had the brie cheese appetizer and then the burger, the Mediterranean tarte flambee, gnocchi and pulled pork poutine. Everything was very flavourful and the experience was top notch.
Pros: Gorgeous interior and view and super flavourful gnocchi (although slightly different than what I've had at other restaurants).
Cons: To me, the portions are kind of small for the price. But not so much so that it would deter me from going back altogether.
Pretty good fig jam pizza. Was satisfied with their portions. I like that the hours here are pretty late. Would come back to try more on their menu.
Mon Ami Louis combines a beautiful location with decidedly Parisean Fare to create a fun and whimsical dining experience on the banks of the Esplanade Riel. Similarly, the food is wonderfully crafted full of strong contrasting flavours and, despite a few small errors in execution, a exemplary rendition of French cuisine.
My husband and I did take out this weekend; we ordered the 'Fat Louis' for 'Le Burger week' and boy were we glad! After a quick walk up the bridge from the east-side, we found oursleves in the lovely restaurant staring out at the spectacular views. I must say that I've never visited any of the previous restaurants occupying the space, so this was my first time. We took the burgers to go, and they ended up being our 3rd place of the 8 burgers we tried that week. The flavour was spectacular, and combined with the atmosphere and view, I think we will be back (perhaps with out of town guests), to eat in at some point... although probably not until next spring or summer. :)
Excellent menu options. They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options. On the night we visited, service was s-l-o-w. We ordered the large charcuterie board which seemed skimpy compared to previous visits. Some food items were under-seasoned. Service was friendly and reasonably attentive.
Delicious food. Great service. Very beautiful and clean restaurant. All on top of their very affordable prices. The only downside is they do not have their own parking lot and you need to walk from the forks parking lot. Would 100% recommend so long as you don't mind a short walk to get there.
Cozy place, unique location, food is excellent and views are fabulous! My kids gave this place five stars. Our server Allan was very professional, "polite and fun" according to my kids. We received great food and service there. I will highly recommend this restaurant for couples or families. The place is very popular, make sure you have reservations during busy hours.
I've been to Mon Ami Louis a couple of times over the years and the experiences have always been positive. The predominantly French food has been decent, the service good, etc. If you get a good seat, there are beautiful views of the Red River below and the Human Rights Museum a short distance away. Parking is sometimes frustrating, but there is generally lots of space on the St. Boniface side of Provencher.
Stopped in to try something different for Sunday lunch. One of (if not the) first customers in for the day. Beautiful view of the river as expected. The service was top notch. We had the salmon August special with salad - excellent, tasty and well put together. We also had the Esplanade burger with duck fat fries - I will admit a bit of wariness with the fries, but they were really tasty! Burger was well put together.
I'll be taking my summer out-of-town guests here.
Were were lucky to have come by after summer opening. This unique, seasonal, venue hangs out over the river with spectacular views all around. The French cuisine was exquisite and the wine list very tasty. It was a great way to celebrate the end of of troponin Winnipeg.
My wife and I loved this place. Everything was perfect. Delicious beet and pear salad, crepes were fantastic. Paul, our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The location speaks for itself. We didn’t have reservations early on Saturday evening but the hostess managed to get us a table anyway. So glad she did.
On Tues, August the 7th, I booked a table for 3 , at 6:30 pm, via the online booking option from their website. Special request was made to be seated next to the window,as we were bringing a friend from Vancouver with us, as part of our celebrating becoming Canadian Citizens the next day. It was a special evening for us all. When we arrived, we got the table I requested. Thank you for that. I understand that due to the uniqueness and layout of the restaurant, larger groups sometimes takes precedence to smaller groups, when it comes to allocating window seating. I respect that.
Our evening turned out to be a most memorable experience. Thank you guys. The food was excellent, and everybody at the table were very impressed with the restaurant, the staff, the food, and especially our server. She was simply outstanding.
I had the Spinach Salad , it was equisite. Shaved fennel, pears, feta cheese, toasted walnuts, dried cranberries, lemon basil vinaigrette, this dish was simply superb.
As a main course I had Braised Beef Brisket, tender brisket in sauce with potato gratin and topped with crispy onions, carrots, mushrooms, and beets. This too was excellent.
One of the highlights though, our server (sadly, I cant recall her name.) Again, her service was impeccable. Polite, friendly, confident and knowledgeable on what the restaurant offers. It takes a special skill for a server not to be around when you dont need her, but to be there when you do. It's a skill very few servers have, and that is to be aware of your surroundings, to be aware of what is happening at your guests table, and to anticipate when a need might arise. She was superb, please thank her for me.
