This restaurant is located in a basement of a historical exchange building. The decor leverages many of the architectural nuances of the building and I think they did an excellent job with what they had to work with. That being said, it’s in a basement so there is restricted disability access. The low ceilings and hard surfaces in the restaurant means it is noisy when it’s busy.
The wait staff are all young and full of energy. They all move quick on their feet and are attentive which help move a lot of people through the small restaurant.
This place is famous for their breakfast and lunch menu. I’ve been here multiple times and am impressed with the food quality each and every time. Just make sure to expect a wait to be seated if you go. Eclectic places like this are busy and Clementine is well known amongst the dining crowd.
OMG!!!! Sooooooo good!!!! Can't wait to come back and try different items. Latte was delicious. I had the Eggs Benedict-Amazing!!! Definitely will come back!
Oh my goodness the food is so tasty! Finally went with a friend for Sunday breakfast. Have tried 3 times prior but couldn't get in due to a lengthy wait. Go early if you don't feel like waiting. They seat people at communal tables so if you're hoping for private conversation this might not be the best choice. We both had the eggs benedict and with it being my favourite dish, I tend to be hyper critical if it's not completely perfect. Their version is outstanding to say the least! The salad we shared was delightful too. I am so looking forward to going back and trying other menu items though I know I'll have a hard time not re-ordering that delicious benny!
Originally opened with Adam Donnelly, though the Chef of Segovia Tapas Bar and Restaurant has since sold his piece to partners, Clementine Cafe has been earning accolades since 2016 as one of Winnipeg’s best spots for Breakfast and on Friday morning with snowflakes falling the no reservations space at 123 Princess Street proved why with a concise menu focused on locally sourced ingredients and big flavors despite low prices.
Located below street level in the Exchange District, several stairs necessary to be navigated en route to a sizable room flanked by bars for Espresso and Booze plus an open kitchen to the back, it was shortly after Clementine’s Seven o’clock opening that the space was found empty save for two Senior Citizens, service expectedly prompt and efficient as Women and Men in the back stayed busy preparing for a rush around 8:00am.
Serving just nine plates and eight sides daily, most prone to frequent variation, it was warmed by a bold Americano that mere moments passed before receiving a bowl of Chia Seed Pudding fortified with Cashew Milk and pureed Bananas, the addition of diced Peaches plus Berries and Granola creating a cool and rich mixture that likely fares equally well in cold or warm weather.
Admittedly intrigued by Mushroom Chilaquiles and Fried Chicken on Toast, though a lengthy drive back to Minneapolis studded with additional dining plans warned against over-indulgence, it was instead in a “Brussels Style Waffle” that additional appetite was invested, the overused regional reference here thankfully found 100% accurate as the rectangle was crispy on the edges yet cake-like at the center and beautifully garnished in Blueberry Syrup, plump Berries and a big spoonful of Whipped Cream with Lemon Zest, Candied Pecans and dried Pomegranate Arils.
Legit changed my mind about how I feel towards breakfast food.
I have always been a dinner or lunch guy but Clementine’s dishes are simply above par from the usual.
One of the few breakfast establishments in Canada that really prides itself in presentation and ingredients that I’ve been to.
Been coming here a couple times a month since January, and the consistency this restaurant has is amazing. The food, the service, the ambience, just everything has always been so welcoming and comforting.
There has yet to be an item on the menu that I didn’t like or haven’t craved for the next day. This place is possibly my favourite in the city. I wish they took reservations, but waiting for a table is so worth the experience.
Highly recommend the Burger Dip and Maple Braised Bacon.
Love the porridge here - outstanding! All of the dishes are incredible. The only thing I did not like was the bacon. Too thick and just not my taste. The rest was exceptional.
Definitely one of the best spots in the city! Always hopping but worth the wait.
Eggs Benedict has beautiful soft poached eggs and thick hunks of pork belly in beautiful Hollandaise sauce.
Potatoes are crisp with well balanced citrus aioli.
Belgian waffle is crisp with floral Earl Grey whip cream, peaches and pine nut crunch.
The reviews are totally right. This was the best brunch I've ever had. I didn't leave feeling too full, the staff were attentive, and accommodating. The wait was about 30 minutes, but that's to be expected. I was able to get eggs benedict without bacon which made my visit that much better. I will definitely be back!
After many failed visits to Clementine, I can finally say I've crossed this off my list of restaurants to try. We made sure to come early as the wait to dine in this cozy, basement, hipster-vibe cafe can be long and sadly impossible due to early closing. We ordered the benedict, pork shoulder taco (on special), chicken and toast, chia seed pudding and panacotta which all came out in decent time. Overall, the food was good; it had its high points but could have been better in some areas. I will admit, the presentation of all 5 dishes were beautifully prepared. The touches of pickled vegetables, a nice contrast to it's meat-heavy counterparts. But, if I had to base my entire dining experience on the panacotta, it would be a solid 5 out of 5. It is a definite must try.
Still a great place for brunch after years of being open. They’ve maintained their exquisite cuisine that elevates brunch. They don’t take reservations so just be prepared to wait for available tables. We went on a Sunday after a blizzard and they still had lots of patrons willing to wait at least 35-45 minutes. It was worth the wait for a special brunch day where we were not in any rush.
One of the best (if not the best) breakfast spots I've ever tried. The inside is very clean, has a friendly staff, and has a super nice laid back environment.
If you're visiting Winnipeg, this would be very high up on my list in terms of restaurants to try. The food is well prepared and the flavours just pops out
Make sure to call in ahead to get on their waiting list though as they do get packed pretty quick. For the times that I've visited, I saw people stroll in just to hear that their wait time is around an hour.
One of my favourite restaurants in the city. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Rectified the issue immediately and well. Very impressed by their customer service.
Very busy, expect line ups, especially on weekends. Definitely worth the wait! HIGHly recommend this place.
One of the best brunches I’ve ever had, without a doubt. And after being used to Toronto and Ottawa brunch prices, seems like an absolute steal.
The braised bacon alone is worth coming back on a daily basis if I lived nearby. The fried chicken was good and the potatoes were amazing. I will for sure be looking here every time I visit Winnipeg.
Awesome little brunch spot.
The food here is just amazing. The drinks are great too... I believe it was called the Clementine Breakfast Drink, that thing is outstanding. The service is great, it's not too loud in there, well lit, nicely decorated. Nothing negative I can say, except that I should have savored the waffles a bit more before I finished them!
This is a very lively brunch spot with many delicious options. I thoroughly enjoyed the clementine breakfast drink, it was like a light and refreshing creamsicle. I also ordered the Turkish eggs, which was fantastic - never would’ve thought to put poached eggs with hummus, but it works! The piccolo was also great, as was the summer sundae (with sorrel ice cream, lemon shaved ice and fresh berries). They had several vegetarian options on the menu, and they didn’t feel like an afterthought. Considering the number of drinks/dishes I ordered, the price was very reasonable! I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in town.
Wonderful find of a restaurant! Don't let the location fool you. Not only was the service excellent, but the food was exceptional. All ingredients used tasted of the highest source found locally and beyond. I would highly recommend giving them a try! Very busy, plan ahead and worth the wait!!
Came here for brunch and had an amazing time! The atmosphere is amazing, very speakeasy-like with it being in the basement! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and had good food and drinks recommendations. We ordered drinks and loved every single drink we ordered. I had a matcha latte and it’s one of the best matcha lattes I’ve had. I got the Braised Bacon Benedict and the thick cut bacon was my favourite part, highly recommend. We got the Peppercorn Burger Dip and the Turkish eggs, all very tasty. We also got 2 sides to share, the Fried Potatoes and the Fried Cauliflower Salad, both very very tasty. Cant wait to come back when I’m in town again!
