This restaurant is located in a basement of a historical exchange building. The decor leverages many of the architectural nuances of the building and I think they did an excellent job with what they had to work with. That being said, it’s in a basement so there is restricted disability access. The low ceilings and hard surfaces in the restaurant means it is noisy when it’s busy.

The wait staff are all young and full of energy. They all move quick on their feet and are attentive which help move a lot of people through the small restaurant.

This place is famous for their breakfast and lunch menu. I’ve been here multiple times and am impressed with the food quality each and every time. Just make sure to expect a wait to be seated if you go. Eclectic places like this are busy and Clementine is well known amongst the dining crowd.

Oh my goodness the food is so tasty! Finally went with a friend for Sunday breakfast. Have tried 3 times prior but couldn't get in due to a lengthy wait. Go early if you don't feel like waiting. They seat people at communal tables so if you're hoping for private conversation this might not be the best choice. We both had the eggs benedict and with it being my favourite dish, I tend to be hyper critical if it's not completely perfect. Their version is outstanding to say the least! The salad we shared was delightful too. I am so looking forward to going back and trying other menu items though I know I'll have a hard time not re-ordering that delicious benny!

Originally opened with Adam Donnelly, though the Chef of Segovia Tapas Bar and Restaurant has since sold his piece to partners, Clementine Cafe has been earning accolades since 2016 as one of Winnipeg’s best spots for Breakfast and on Friday morning with snowflakes falling the no reservations space at 123 Princess Street proved why with a concise menu focused on locally sourced ingredients and big flavors despite low prices.

Located below street level in the Exchange District, several stairs necessary to be navigated en route to a sizable room flanked by bars for Espresso and Booze plus an open kitchen to the back, it was shortly after Clementine’s Seven o’clock opening that the space was found empty save for two Senior Citizens, service expectedly prompt and efficient as Women and Men in the back stayed busy preparing for a rush around 8:00am.

Serving just nine plates and eight sides daily, most prone to frequent variation, it was warmed by a bold Americano that mere moments passed before receiving a bowl of Chia Seed Pudding fortified with Cashew Milk and pureed Bananas, the addition of diced Peaches plus Berries and Granola creating a cool and rich mixture that likely fares equally well in cold or warm weather.

Admittedly intrigued by Mushroom Chilaquiles and Fried Chicken on Toast, though a lengthy drive back to Minneapolis studded with additional dining plans warned against over-indulgence, it was instead in a “Brussels Style Waffle” that additional appetite was invested, the overused regional reference here thankfully found 100% accurate as the rectangle was crispy on the edges yet cake-like at the center and beautifully garnished in Blueberry Syrup, plump Berries and a big spoonful of Whipped Cream with Lemon Zest, Candied Pecans and dried Pomegranate Arils.

Legit changed my mind about how I feel towards breakfast food.

I have always been a dinner or lunch guy but Clementine’s dishes are simply above par from the usual.

One of the few breakfast establishments in Canada that really prides itself in presentation and ingredients that I’ve been to.

Been coming here a couple times a month since January, and the consistency this restaurant has is amazing. The food, the service, the ambience, just everything has always been so welcoming and comforting.

There has yet to be an item on the menu that I didn’t like or haven’t craved for the next day. This place is possibly my favourite in the city. I wish they took reservations, but waiting for a table is so worth the experience.

Highly recommend the Burger Dip and Maple Braised Bacon.

Love the porridge here - outstanding! All of the dishes are incredible. The only thing I did not like was the bacon. Too thick and just not my taste. The rest was exceptional.

Definitely one of the best spots in the city! Always hopping but worth the wait.

Eggs Benedict has beautiful soft poached eggs and thick hunks of pork belly in beautiful Hollandaise sauce.

Potatoes are crisp with well balanced citrus aioli.

Belgian waffle is crisp with floral Earl Grey whip cream, peaches and pine nut crunch.

The reviews are totally right. This was the best brunch I've ever had. I didn't leave feeling too full, the staff were attentive, and accommodating. The wait was about 30 minutes, but that's to be expected. I was able to get eggs benedict without bacon which made my visit that much better. I will definitely be back!

After many failed visits to Clementine, I can finally say I've crossed this off my list of restaurants to try. We made sure to come early as the wait to dine in this cozy, basement, hipster-vibe cafe can be long and sadly impossible due to early closing. We ordered the benedict, pork shoulder taco (on special), chicken and toast, chia seed pudding and panacotta which all came out in decent time. Overall, the food was good; it had its high points but could have been better in some areas. I will admit, the presentation of all 5 dishes were beautifully prepared. The touches of pickled vegetables, a nice contrast to it's meat-heavy counterparts. But, if I had to base my entire dining experience on the panacotta, it would be a solid 5 out of 5. It is a definite must try.

Awesome little spot in the basement in the exchange. I can't believe I hadn't been here before. It has a cute coffee shop vibe to it and an interesting menu. We tried the waffle and the fried chicken on toast and it was very good. Will definitely be back. Good service, good food and a nice atmosphere and location.

Wow!!! Stopped in here after preordering their special burger week burger and it was fantastic!! Burger was cut in half and grilled on the faces with an onion dip. Burger came with pickled onion slices and was just a fine cohesive flavour. There was a 45 minute wait to dine in so glad we preordered. Restaurant was downstairs and had a pretty cool ambiance from what I saw while we were waiting. I have heard their breakfast menu is great so that is on my to do list. Seems like a definite place to come back to!!

Over the last few days I’ve been blogging primarily about the Fringe Festival. Being in the Exchange for the Fringe, I’ve done a bit of dining in the area. One of the places I’ve visited is Clementine Cafe. I’ll get to the review of Clementine in a bit, but in case your interested, these are the Fringe shows I’ve reviewed: Wanderlust, Josephine, Vera Lynn-We’ll Meet Again, 4:48 Psychosis, Wooster Sauce, and Time’s Fancy. I recommend any and all of these shows if you’re interested in taking in some of the Fringe in the next few days. There are also lots of other good shows as well.

This is now one of my favourite restaurants in Winnipeg! I had to rate it 5/5, it is that good! My group of 5 ordered the fried chicken on toast, the salad, hamburger, tostada and belgian waffle. We each tried each others food and we all loved all of them! Each has very different flavours and unique from each other. My most favourite is my chicken on toast and the cream for the belgian waffle. Mmm. Least favourite would be the tostada and the salad. I found the tostada awkward to eat and the toast no longer toasty cause its topped with the meat. I cant wait to come back and try the eggs benny next time. In fact, since each dish has different and distinct flavours, im too curious not to try everything in the menu!

We enjoyed the decor and open kitchen view. It was very loud during lunch time because it was a full house and the kitchen was busy and uses blender etc and we had to yell a little bit to each other but after a while, it had calmed down. Service was good and prompt. I dont mind the price to he honest because the food more than makes up for it and it does tastes like how much it's worth. It is reasonable.

5/5. Thanks Clementine!

Came here on a very busy Thursday morning. It's a small, cozy, hipster restaurant in the downtown area of Winnipeg. We tried the pork belly and grits (special) and eggs Benedict. The pork belly was ok, however, the eggs Benedict was delicious. The dill sauce was tasty and the thick cut bacon was juicy. Service was ok. I didn't like how the menu was a la carte as you need to add your sides on separately.

The bite and flavour were both perfect, if a bit unconventional. The homemade bun was the ideal consistency and complimented the lightly packed bacon and beef patty. I will be back.

I love Brussels sprouts, these are best I've ever had. Crispest potatoes, Chicken on toast is perfectly balanced sweet and spicy, on bread that is chewy and rich. Sat us right up against the kitchen window, watched them take boxes of potatoes, sprouts and dough and make fresh food from scratch. My friend had a great burger and two perfect Americanos. Cannot wait to go back!

What a delicious little spot to grab brunch! I came here with a group of friends after hearing great things about Clementine. We got there nice and early to grab a table before the line ups started. I ordered a Matcha latte and the fried chicken on toast. Both were very tasty! The waffle is next on my list to try, as it looked absolutely delicious. Loved the decor and atmosphere and will definitely be returning for more!

So, I maybe should have waited for the sign to be lit up to take the picture, but I was just so excited to finally try Clementine that clearly I was not in the right mindset. . I can't make out the third word, so let your creative mind wander!. A few weeks ago, I was procrastinating on Instagram when a photo popped up of the most delicious brunch spread.

we made the time to have a Sunday lunch date and i most certainly wanted to try this place i'd been hearing about. i have to admit we did accidentally walk in to subway which is next door as the door to the restaurant just seemed so unassuming for our first visit and i thought maybe the side walk sign was pointing towards the wrong door.  there was obviously a wait but we were able to grab a seat on the waiting bench so we were out of the way and it certainly didn't take long for the que to move.
the one con i have to say; getting to my seat was not easy and i am tiny, i can't imagine a larger person not knocking over everything on the adjacent table as they shimmy past. we were seated at the long wall where one side of the table is a bench and the other person sits in a chair; the space between the two tables was minuscule.
our waitress was just so lovely, she  was prompt, not pushy and enhanced our dining experience.
i ordered the fried chicken toast and was SO very pleasantly surprised at how yummy it was. the chicken in my opinion was perfectly crispy, not greasy and plentiful. the sweet heat sauce they drizzled on top completed the dish in my opinion as i am all about heat. i also ordered the side of Potato Home Fries with Salsa Negra & Lime Mayo, which the lovely zesty mayo sauce popped; i do have to say the title of the dish mislead me as i thought it would be  thick wedge cut potatos but it was little cubes of potatos which would be more of a hash-brown in my opinion.
my husband ordered Brüssels Style Waffle which would never fill him but with the side of maple bacon and a piece of my chicken he was content.
we both really enjoyed our food, experience and the bare bones style of this place. will most certainly be back when we are in town during their open hours.

Maple braised bacon. Nuff said. Basically maple braised pork belly. Dangerously delicious. Fried chicken with house made pickles. My body hates me after eating this but it was worth it. Great atmosphere, home fries were delicious with the smoky and lemony sauces on top.

This was BY FAR my favourite burger from Burger Week 2016. The atmosphere in here is great, and the food selection unique and ingredient quality is superb. The flavour combination on/in the burger isn't something I have ever tasted before and it went together so well I felt like everyone who was out trying burgers was talking about this one. I will be back to try the regular menu at some point (probably for brunch), for sure!

Being in a party of 2, we were lucky to be seated right away on a Thursday morning. It was a good thing we came a little earlier, because as we were leaving there was quite a lineup.
Being lactose intolerant, I typically have to opt for a savoury dish for breakfast, even though I crave waffles and pancakes in the mornings. Our server was so kind when I figured I'd just take my chances and suffer the consequences when I ordered the waffles, and she returned to my table, just to urge me to try another option for fear of the waffles making me sick. So, I was happy to order the Turkish poached eggs instead. I wasn't really wanting anything too salty, so i ordered a side of bacon, but requested they dump syrup all over it. They happily obliged. My dish was quite tasty, although just seemed a little too heavy for a morning meal. That was partially my fault, for eating nearly all 3 pieces of side bacon I received, which looked more like pork belly with how thick it was. Seriously, these pieces of bacon were about the same size as my iPhone 4s INCLUDING the phone case (yeah i know..I'm way overdue for an update). And yes, they poured syrup over it for me which was heaven. The eggs were poached absolutely perfectly as they oozed all over the hummus. I really did enjoy the combination of the hummus and yolk with my toast, however i was quite full after only finishing one egg. My friend had to finish the rest of my plate.

My few criticisms include these: The menu features big, bold flavours. Which is great, however I crave simple fare for breakfast/brunch but not quite as simple as a bowl of porridge. I like a little sweet, a little salty, but not curry, or chili, or Dukkah or fried chicken (God Bless 'Murica for that one...). Perhaps a personal preference, however there wasn't one thing on the menu that just screamed out to me, which is strange considering how hungry I was. (I really wanted to try those waffles...but unfortunately..the whole lactose thing throws me for a loop.)
Also, maybe it can't be helped, but because the tables are so close together, the noise level was at a decibel that a decent conversation could not be had. I heard the two women at the table next to me clearer than the person I was with.

Overall: Decent. Innovative and trendy. Super loud. Possible long wait times. Bold flavours. Not as good as their big sister, Segovia in Osborne Village.

Nice little spot in the exchange. Waitress was helpful with menu. GF got Eggs Benedict.... which was bomb. Eggs were poached perfectly and that bacon tho... mmmmm... I ordered the artic char... very light main.. flavors made up for the size of the dish.. very light main coarse and fresh. For desert we ordered there waffle... dayum that was the shit!!! All the sweetness came from the fruits that were used for the toppings which worked perfectly. It was a nice light sweetness which I liked in comparison to using typical syrup/honey. Haven't had a waffle like that since I was in Vancouver B.C.. The atmosphere of the cafe was very chill.... noise from kitchen was slightly noisy but we were sitting right by the window buit did not ruin our experience. Overall great cafe for those looking for a nice place to have breakfast/brunch/lunch in the exchange. No pics as we were hungry and food looked great! Lol

We had to wait about 30 min but the wait was worth it. A bit of smaller place but tables had plenty of room from the other and had a decent sized waiting area. We went there on a Sunday afternoon (which anywhere would be busy) for brunch with another couple. My fiancé ordered the Arctic char and I had the chorizo tostada and both were small dishes but so flavourful! The other couple ordered the tostada as well and the braised bacon Benedict and Brussels waffle which were all equally delicious! To top it off the mimosas were made with freshly squeezed oranges I really loved them! Great service but always busy, but if it's busy you know it's good!! Would definitely come again!

Very seldom do I find an establishment that does not sacrifice one quality to improve the others at least on some level. Clementine, to my delight, has managed to find a delicate balance on that front which proves for an exceptional meal and experience.

The menu is small but everything it provides is done right. The prices are perfectly acceptable for a breakfast/lunch restaurant and, despite what others have said in the comments,  the portions are perfectly sized. Our server had suggested a side which was definitely not a requirement as I left full!

If you are on a diet, however, do not bother with Clementine. The ingredients are full of flavour the old fashioned way meaning your taste buds will leave happier than they've been in a long time but you will have just had real butter, or full fat milk. That being said, they aren't slopping bacon grease all over things. Everything is done very well and nothing is heavy handed.

I do have to say that the rhubarb compote on the waffles was one of the best things I've ever had in my mouth in my entire life. And the thick cut slabs of bacon have made me not want to eat it any other way.

Service is prompt and knowledgeable, lighting and atmosphere is homey and comfortable, the kitchen is bright and clean, and the food, oh the food, is a delight with every bite.

Clementine is a venue I will highly recommend to anyone looking for a trendy, filling, excellent valued place for breakfast or lunch.

I try to avoid places in their first few weeks of opening as they are usually working out the kinks but hey, Clementine is owned and operated by the same team (Donnelly & Konrad) of Segovia so there's no real issues. This new brunch place is only open for breakfast and lunch M-F 7-4 and S-S 8-4. It's in the Exchange District on Princess in the basement of a condo building. The space is beautifully decorated with a rustic yet urban vibe. There's bakery items and coffee at a to-go counter and lots of tables and a couple of communal tables in the rest of the dining room space.

There's currently 9 mains ($6-$12) with about 7 sides ($2-5). The dishes are a bit of like Segovia in that there's inspirations drawing from Spain, India, Mid-East and overall New American. Some stand outs are:
- Seared Albacore Tuna Salad ($12) Snap Peas, Greens, Smoked Cashew Salsa, Pineapple, Crispy Quinoa. Yeah, it's a seared tuna salad but it's a great tuna salad and very fairly priced. Another good lunch option.
- Shrimp Vadouvan ($12) Chickpeas, Poached Egg, Charred Cucumber Raita, Herbs. This one leans more to a lunch meal with it's rich and savoury curry flavours. Best to order some bread with this dish to sop up the sauce. The poached eggs blends beautifully in this dish.

Service was very welcoming and knowledgeable. And food service was done within the lunch hour so kudos to that.

No reservations.

I'd heard about the upcoming Clementine when I first moved back to Winnipeg early in the new year, and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Unsurprisingly, I was very excited to see it open this past weekend. A freezer issue resulted in a limited menu, and I have to say that I am glad it did. I had a difficult enough time choosing because everything sounded divine. In the end, we went with the Braised Bacon Benedict and 3 sides; the potato home fries, fries beets, and grains & greens salad. Omg everything was delicious! In particular, the crema and the mayo that came with the beets and potatoes were so good. Oh and the biscuit that the Benny was on was amazing. It's those extra touches of delicious finery that make a meal 👌🏽I am excited to return!

Still a great place for brunch after years of being open. They’ve maintained their exquisite cuisine that elevates brunch. They don’t take reservations so just be prepared to wait for available tables. We went on a Sunday after a blizzard and they still had lots of patrons willing to wait at least 35-45 minutes. It was worth the wait for a special brunch day where we were not in any rush.

One of the best (if not the best) breakfast spots I've ever tried. The inside is very clean, has a friendly staff, and has a super nice laid back environment. If you're visiting Winnipeg, this would be very high up on my list in terms of restaurants to try. The food is well prepared and the flavours just pops out Make sure to call in ahead to get on their waiting list though as they do get packed pretty quick. For the times that I've visited, I saw people stroll in just to hear that their wait time is around an hour.

One of the best brunches I’ve ever had, without a doubt. And after being used to Toronto and Ottawa brunch prices, seems like an absolute steal. The braised bacon alone is worth coming back on a daily basis if I lived nearby. The fried chicken was good and the potatoes were amazing. I will for sure be looking here every time I visit Winnipeg.

This is a very lively brunch spot with many delicious options. I thoroughly enjoyed the clementine breakfast drink, it was like a light and refreshing creamsicle. I also ordered the Turkish eggs, which was fantastic - never would’ve thought to put poached eggs with hummus, but it works! The piccolo was also great, as was the summer sundae (with sorrel ice cream, lemon shaved ice and fresh berries). They had several vegetarian options on the menu, and they didn’t feel like an afterthought. Considering the number of drinks/dishes I ordered, the price was very reasonable! I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in town.

Wonderful find of a restaurant! Don't let the location fool you. Not only was the service excellent, but the food was exceptional. All ingredients used tasted of the highest source found locally and beyond. I would highly recommend giving them a try! Very busy, plan ahead and worth the wait!!

Came here for brunch and had an amazing time! The atmosphere is amazing, very speakeasy-like with it being in the basement! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and had good food and drinks recommendations. We ordered drinks and loved every single drink we ordered. I had a matcha latte and it’s one of the best matcha lattes I’ve had. I got the Braised Bacon Benedict and the thick cut bacon was my favourite part, highly recommend. We got the Peppercorn Burger Dip and the Turkish eggs, all very tasty. We also got 2 sides to share, the Fried Potatoes and the Fried Cauliflower Salad, both very very tasty. Cant wait to come back when I’m in town again!
