We went to meet a friend for lunch and didn't really know what to expect. We had the Ahi tuna salad, smoked tomato soup and seafood crepes. The dishes were unique in flavour and in presentation. The flavours were great - distinct and well balanced. The Ahi tuna was raw, which came as an interesting surprise as I assumed it would be seared. The crepes tasted rich with the white sauce and mix of seafood. The soup was excellent and I wish I'd had a bowl instead of a cup.
Ambiance was casual and there were some vibrant paintings on the walls. The location is at the waterfront, providing a very nice view. Service was very friendly and attentive.
We will definitely be back to try more of their dishes.

Great spot for lunch! Pleasantly surprised by Jan's this afternoon. There's loads to choose from and coming from the city we were eager to try something on the strip. They have a great little patio (about eight tables of 4) but we opted for a window seat inside. The service was very friendly and we were greeted several times and told to find a spot that we liked. The menu is varied with lots of options (burgers, salads, soups, mains & appies) so lots to choose from. They also had a large selection of gluten free options which was nice. We ordered the calamari (lightly battered/gf), fish and chips (gf, not greasy) and the clam chowder (gf, creamy but light). All were excellent. Nicely seasoned, hot and most important delicious. The service is casual but attentive and friendly. The room is clean and nicely decorated in a beachy, wine bar, Local art on the walls etc. I would definitely recommend Jan's and look forward to going back for a glass of wine on their patio. Good value too! Nothing was crazy overpriced and we liked how everything is made in house. A great spot on the strip!
I've been to this restaurant several times: the food is always very good- and they have a variety of different options. They are very good about gluten free and other adjustments to meals. I've had many of their vegetarian options: although I wouldn't recommend ordering to-go. The food steams inside its box and gets very soggy.
I have had a few people say that the service is spotty though; and a few people who were made very uncomfortable when on multiple occasions the owner chastised employees in front of everyone.
Great location right near the water. The food was pretty good but relatively expensive for what it was. Open kitchen in the restaurant so you can watch Jan make your meal! Interesting and unique blueberry salad dressing.
Yummy!. Been here several times, and I've always a good experience. I personally like their calamari (has slices of fried jalapeno's mixed in), and smoked salmon eggs benedict. Owners are always very friendly and servers as well. They change their menu up often and seasonally, as well they have wine pairing dinners now and then which are really fun.
Lamb Chops are Great!. Enjoyed a very nice meal with my wife and daughter. Service was excellent. I had the Mongolian Lamb Chops with Risotto. My wife had the Spinach and Strawberry salad with a skewer of prawns. My daughter had Penne off the kids menu. Everything was delicious (including the kids pasta which I finished)!
My boyfriend and I both had the fish and chips here (we were on a mission for some delicious fish and chips). We stumbled upon this place and I must say the meal was delicious. While we were waiting for our food, Jan came out to check up on her guests and my boyfriend had mentioned that I didn't like scallops because anytime I had tried them they were cooked to rubber. From there, Jan was on a mission to change my mind. She brought out not just 2 beautifully cooked scallops for me to try, but made it up as a lovely dish with a side salad with a nice blueberry vinegarette (she changed my mind on fruit vinegarettes on this same day). She, along with the rest of the staff, were so friendly and personable. I must say, this was one of the best experiences I have had with any restaurant in a long time. Would definitely go back!
A Definite Must Try!!!. I thought that the staff was great, the food was delicious, the wait was not long at all, and the atmosphere was really fun! They had a great menu (much of their ingredients were either local or home-made) and their patio seats have one of the best views of the beach I've ever seen. The place itself was very clean and cozy. I would definitely give it 5 stars out of 5 and I will definitely be returning to try out other menu options. Really easy to find as it is just across from the pier. One of the highlights of my trip to the beach and a must try for anybody looking for an awesome place to eat in White Rock. :)
Pretty good. Went to Jan's for breakfast after my plan to try Jimmy Flynn's Celtic Snug was thwarted by it being unexpectedly closed. It's a nice enough restaurant, clean and spacious, with a polite attentive waitress. Ordered the eggs benedict and there were a few niggles. First, the hashbrowns were a touch -- just a touch -- on the raw side. Second, there weren't enough of them. I headed to Poultry in Motion afterwards for another benedict to really fill me up for the day. Third, the poached eggs were cooked right through, and I like them runny. Hopefully these issues are more a result of Jan's being brand new than anything else. On the whole it was a good meal and I'd be willing to try Jan's again... but not immediately.
