I had dinner here with the family on the Thanksgiving weekend, although it was not the first time visiting the Oak.
The Oak is a British style pub, located in a shopping plaza on the north side of Taunton. It is easily visible from the street, but the parking lot is a bloody disaster to get around in; obviously that's not the Oak's fault and not should it discourage you from going, but it is good to be aware of it.
Inside its exactly what you'd expect from a pub, and it's plenty comfy. Service here has always been good (better than the Victoria Street location in my opinion but both are very good). I've rarely had to wait long, and the staff is always helpful - on this trip miscommunication led us to asking for large tables in separate area of the restaurant originally and while the error was quickly discovered the staff was very responsive to our needs.
Food is standard pub fare, but it is well executed- I've had many dishes here in the past and all have been very good. This time was pot pie, which was hot and tasty, and more than one person should consume (although consume it I did). The bar maintains an excellent selection of draft beers, including seasonal selections.
Cost wise it will set you back around $30-40 per adult if you include apps and the bar tab, but for the quality of the food and service I consider it with the price. For my money it's the best pub option in the area.
Royal Oak. Won Reader's Choice "Best Pub in Durham"
Great place to enjoy a beer and food in the evening. Driving by noticed they have live music in the patio in the afternoon, will try that!
