I can't say enough positive things about the Nith River Chop House!! Their food is amazing, sometimes the service takes a while but it is because the place is almost always busy which is truly a testament to their awesomeness!! I highly recommend the house salad with their apple cider vinegar dressing, and you can't go wrong with the schnitzel (HUGE portions and awesome topping combos)! Wash it all down with a Beau's Lugtread and you won't be disappointed!! The only 'recommendation' I could make to the Chop House is that they change their Potato Crockets back to the previous recipe (the one where you got 2 HUGE crockets vs. the now 6 or 7 smaller ones) We always get that as a starter and the "old" way of doing it was much superior in our opinion!! 5 STARS all the way a must visit if in the area!!
Supper there last night was great. Service was excellent and was our first time there! Would definitely recommend this place for a meal. Also had a take out!
Enjoy a great deal meals at the chop house . Service has always been attentive , personable, all involved doing their level best . Meals from the burger fare , pasta, meat cuts to individual preference . My foremost impression is of a staff who truly cares what they do . Have never had a meal I did not enjoy but also true have been impressed that if something was not right staff would do their best to correct it.
Nith River Chop House on my list of dining out from children to seniors
Outstanding
The one word that says it all is "Outstanding" From fantastic decor, to great service. The food is maybe too big of portions. But it was sure good.
It is a small chain, (3 locations) The two I have been too are, equally the same in all respects.
Great steaks and chops. Been there three times for dinner. All in the last week of the month. It was November and December of 2012 and January of 2013. We have never experience the service issue the other review mentioned. In fact, the service was great and friendly.
Food, for a short review, it's very good and worth going back for.
Now for a little longer version. First time we had a Stuffed Potato Skin for starter. Tasty enough but not too salty. Then we had Pull Pork Flat Bread and a Framer Platter. I remember I was thinking if I can get a big hot dog bun for that house made sausage, I would be in heaven. The pork chops were great too but that sausage is something else all together. On the other hand, I thought the Pull Pork Flat Bread was a little bland but still tasted ok.
Second time, I had the 8 oz sirlion in blue rare, it was tender enough and the steak color was done just right. It was worth the money they were charging for. It almost, I said almost melt in your mouth.
Third time, 8 oz tenderlion in blue rare. It was suppose to be better than sirlion, I would think, but I believe the chef has got a little heavy handed. It wasn't really blue rare enough but I still enjoyed the whole thing. Does it taste a lot better than the sirlion, not to my taste bud so I think I will stick with sirlion next time.
For all three visits, one of thing that stuck to my mind was the way they cook their veggie. It was one of the best tasting veggie I have ever had in a steak house. Just boiled enough to be cooked but not cross the line to be soft and mushy.
And we did have various starters in the second and third visit and all were very good especially the Traditional Dutch Croquettes. We also had a Grilled Flank Steak and Tomato Flat Bread. The portion was a complete meal on it own.
Had their Warm Apple Crumble once and twice the Hot Fudge Cake with vanilla ice cream. The fudge cake is to die for. It's light yet have body but not sticky to the mouth. I would like to have a couple of them at a time but since it does have sugar in those thing, I managed to control myself.
I do have two small issues though. Since I don't drink alcohol nor I care about soda pop I drink hot tea or coffee. The coffee I had wasn't very good even when it was a fresh pot. They give you Red Rose for hot tea. I think next time I will ask them if I can use my own tea bag.
Another thing, they set the temp. at 72 degree F. It's a bit too warm for me especially after having a warm cup of tea or soup. It's personal choice, I do understand some people like it that warm.
Second visit even better than the first!. Just got back from my second visit to this wonderful place. The first visit on the 24th gave me the best steak sandwich I have ever had.. Cooked to perfection and tender as you could ever want a steak to be. All the food is freshly prepared and cooked to order. Much of the food is locally sorced or at least Canadian (ie PEI Muscles). As someone with a soy allergy it is pure joy to go to a resturant and be able to order anything on the menu. Our second dinner was even better. If you are a pork fan this is your kind of place. The farmers platter has pork chops (capital T tender) farmers sausage, shnitzel and the house specialty double smoked bacon (heaven). We had a starter, two mains and a sinful sticky toffee pudding with coffee all for just over $55! The service is top notch and super friendly with different spcials every night I suggest you run, don't walk and check this place out!
This place was decked out from top to bottom. I really enjoy it when businesses have fun with what they do, and the Chop House’s decor shows that a lot of care and thought went into setting this place up. And I got the impression that the effort did not stop with the decor.
Love this place. Wish I lived close by. Chef was extremely knowledgeable,as was Maddie our waitress. Honest and wholehearted. Food was absolutely delicious. Beef gravy is on point..... but the local beef is a hit. You gotta try this place. 10/10.
Schnitzel dinner was outstanding
Food was hot
Sweet potato fries hot and cooked perfectly
Best meal all around we have had in a long time
Highly recommend
Staff so attentive and friendly
This is our favourite spot to eat at in the region. It has a homey, country vibe with bench seating done in cow hide, lots of wood and great menu. I had never been one to order a burger when dining out, but I can’t seem to stop ordering the same thing each time when we go here - burger, poutine, salad and chicken wings (lemon pepper). Always lots to take home to enjoy the next day. We also have had the schnitzel, liver and onions (wonderful). They have a great little bar to watch sports and the service is always top notch and friendly. Their house salad deserves to be mentioned - always made with fresh veggies and their homemade apple cider Dijon dressing. All salads are excellent.
Great atmosphere. Fantastic food. Attentive staff. Definitely returning next time we are in the area.
Steak salad was delicious. Burger was very messy but very tasty. Good service.
Jalapeño chimichurri burger is UNREAL. Great beef quality and good service. Atmosphere is quite unique too. The only thing I didn’t like was the music (country) but that’s just a personal taste.
