Hotel was perfect for three nights stay. Few comments: 1) room had a musty smell, which we assumed was because of proximity to the ocean. 2) In suite kitchen had pots/pans a cutting knife and serving spoons, but no cups, plates or cutlery. When we asked for dishes, they gave us the number of place settings needed. However, no cups. Also did not have dish washing supplies in room and had to use the bathroom face cloths.
With that being said, room was spacious, comfortable and an all around great value. Would recommend it.
The staff have been nice so far day 1. It's close to a lot of things. Only issue I had was the rooms on first floor didn't have enough lighting but otherwise a great stay. Ample parking available as well.

We d previously stayed at a Howard Johnson property in Kamloops that ruined the reputation for the brand for us. We haven't returned to the brand in 10 plus years because of the rat chewing we heard thru the walls and the flea infested carpets. So we had sworn off staying at Howard johnsons forever... Until this opportunity came along. We were scared and very hesitant but we saw the site pics and read the reviews. So we took a chance. This place is spotlessly clean and in a good decent quiet location despite being so close to the hwy it's quiet. We had a large room with clean linens and comfy beds. Staff was friendly and accommodating and we enjoyed ourselves. Can't say much about the restaurant beside the hotel since it charges high prices for low end food and wasn't that great. But the hotel meet and exceeded our expectations and we will gladly return!
Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner to visit family. We had a suite room, which was comfortable and nice. We didn't use the pool and other amenities, but good to know that they're there. We did order a beer from the connecting bar/restaurant to our room, so that was a plus! Price was reasonable, would stay again.

I have driven by the Hojo many times. As a local of Victoria we never stayed there but had eaten in the restaurant. We have moved and of course to come back to Victoria to visit friends and family accommodations are tragically overpriced there. After a frustrating time trying to get a decent priced Airbnb with good internet I finally settled on the Howard Johnson in Royal Oak.
BEST DECISION EVER. Staff was friendly and helpful, great covid procedures in place. Room was super clean and very roomy. I got the double queen room and it had a nice little kitchen area so I could have some food in the fridge. The room was poolside so there was a nice little area to sit outside and have my coffee. The best were crazy comfortable and the air conditioner kept the room like an icebox.
I work online and I was amazed that I could do zoom calls all morning on wifi.
This hotel is very central with where ever you want to go. I suggest with the current way things are downtown that travelers avoid the downtown core. The mayor of Victoria is going to need to get her act together and clean it up before she kills tourism completely. Lisa is NO help.
This will be my go to when traveling back to Victoria. They make working out of a hotel a pleasant experience. Kudo's to the front desk, they are very professional and very helpful.

I have only been here to eat, and honestly, the nachos here are my favourite in town. The chips always taste fresh and they give LOTS of salsa and sour cream on the side. The beer choices are stellar, and the whole menu is varied and delicious. The pub side is most comfortable and upbeat. But always seems understaffed while teh restaurant side is quieter and has too many servers for business level. Aside from that, I always enjoy myself here for food. I have never stayed in the rooms.
The hotel is dated the suites need to be refurbished especially the bathrooms. There were six of us having dinner in the restratrunt and two dinners were under cooked tuna and beyond burger.
That evening we went to the bar and ordered poutine the cheese had mold on it. All of these items were credited back but I would not go there again.
Our first day was a bit rough with some confusion about rooms and misscommunication amongst staff, but Krystal (I hope I'm spelling this right) at the front desk cleared everything up and was so pleasant, and helpful. She made our stay so enjoyable. As did the kitchen staff at the restaurant. We will keep coming back for a staycation as much as we can!
Great customer service! Very accommodating for us and our pup. The two gentlemen at the front desk were very helpful and understanding.
