This place is now unfairly amazing! Was a fan back in the day but it's like a new place entirely - love the new brightness, menu revamp, the unbelievable cocktail program, including a massive variety of tequila and mezcal. They've kept some classics, but I'm a huge fan of the taco boards and the tapas style menu :-) Go and go now :-)
Love the Cafe Mexico! The food is fantastic and it feels way more authentic then ever. If you love good Tequila and Mezcal then there is no better place in Victoria to have a drink. Highly recommend the margaritas and the empanadas are to die for!
Recently renovated and refreshed after a devastating fire gutted the restaurant. Cafe Mexico has made a huge comeback!! Enjoyed an evening with family and we were all very impressed with the quality of our food. Fresh, flavourful and filling. The burritos are large and scrumptious; I especially enjoyed the Market Veggie. The chimichanga was a favourite at our table too. Lots of care and attention with house made sauces, sides and tortillas. The upside-down pineapple cake with ice cream is delicious. Setting is very nice too and service was great. No reservations for tables under 8 so expect a bit of a wait. Prices are mid-range and comparable to but way better than those chain restaurants ($40 for appy + 2 mains). Open late so busy.
We had an amazing time at the bar of Café Mexico. Our bartender was nice and tentative, although I wondered whether he really was listening to us when he asked if he could take our plates away and whether we wanted dessert. Minor details aside, the food was amazing and the menu was vegetarian-friendly for my dining partner. It's always a struggle finding someplace with enough meat and meat-less variety. Their sangrias are amazing too - I look forward to going back and trying their other concoctions. This was my first visit post-renovation and I love what they did to spice up the place. It's got a nicer atmosphere, less tacky, and a great place to go for late night eats. Three thumbs up.
This place was stellar. I went on NYE at 5:30 with my parents, husband and teenage son, and we were treated superb. My parents--From Victoria--took us, at my Californian husband's request for "Mexican". Being from Winnipeg, authentic Mexican is now hard to come by there. Foodies themselves, my parents noted the second story was gone since the fire, and the menu has changed and could now be distinguished as tapas (apparently the original menu had lower prices and larger portions). As first time guests, we enjoyed it. The food was exceptional and unique, as was the service. I'll be back, when in town! ♡
This was my first visit to Cafe Mexico. The location and space itself are absolutely amazing and lots of fun. The bar is gorgeous, looking, and looks very well stocked. The menu is a very nice size, and the food that we did order was excellent and well portioned. Everything tasted very good and was also very well seasoned. Wait, staff was very helpful and attentive. We really didn't have to wait for anything... also the restaurant was very clean. Amazing, and thank you.
A nice place with tasty mexican food. I don't know how "authentic" mexican food can be out of Mexico but this place really tries.
The place has nice furniture but atmosphere in general is fine, the only thing I thought wasn't good is the music.
In general is a good place to have a drink and eat tasty food.
I dropped by to order take out after their cut off time for take out orders. Ari was very accommodating, helped me with choosing the dishes and the spicy sauces. Food was amazing, and it was only surpassed by the staff's service. Next time, I will try to dine in.
Best tacos I’ve ever had!! I got the tacos Mazatlan twice, they did not disappoint. Large, flavorful prawns in a tortilla with melted on cheese … yum🙌🙌🙌
Very good! The food was excellent, the chips were hot, and the salsa was tasty.
The service was okay, but they were trying so I won’t fault them for that.
I would come back again.
I went to cafe Mexico, they have authentic mexican food (I'm Mexican). Food is good, our server was good, she checked on us frequently and also gave us space. The best part is that they have Micheladas ❤️
Very satisfactory experience here. Had delicious Mexican food, the atmosphere and environment is very pleasing and homely. The customer service is top notch. I got the Tacos Mexicanos for myself and it tasted amazing with the habanero house made hot sauce that was given. Very positive experience and i can’t wait to eat here again. I am rating 4 stars because the prices were fairly high for the sizes of food, other than that amazing place
Very impressive Mexican restaurant.
Delicious cocktails, margaritas of course, and very tasty food.
Thankfully the chef allowed me to try three tacos; beef, chicken and pork. All very tasty though an extra tortilla would have great to finish off the decent portions.
Churros were fresh and cooked perfectly.
Highly recommend for an authentic Mexican meal in Victoria.
Great authentic Mexican cuisine. And the staff are really friendly. I got into a long conversation with the manager about how they make pulled pork. He even shared the recipe so I could try to replicate it at home -- and recommended a pretty fantastic cookbook. A great place.
Had a really enjoyable meal before going to the Barbie Movie.... Don't judge me. 😎 The food was Hot, it was tasty, came with good speed and at a decent price. The burrito was loaded with meat which many places seem to think they can scrimp on. The service was lame though. I see many young waiting staff just not very good at their job lately. Like a lot, but not all of course.... and when the debit machine starts the tip options at 18%. Food great, service meh. Maybe others will have better experiences. Maybe they will get cutlery. Maybe the waitress will return when waived.
