On a cold cold Vancouver night we stopped by with our out of town guest to try their Mahjong dessert (coconut pudding and red bean pudding). Ok. This was SO cute. Pricey but it was irresistible. We also had their hot black sesame soup which yummy. Will be back to try some more of their signature desserts.
After dinner, we were craving something sweet, so we decided to go to Snackshot for some classic Hong Kong style dessert: . This was their glutinous rice balls with sesame paste, in a ginger soup. Pretty good ratio of sesame paste filling to exterior:. We also had the hot almond paste dessert (top bowl with white substance), and a hot ginger tea (bottom glass of orange substance):
At Snackshot, they serve simple snacks, mostly desserts like Tangyuan or Tofu Pudding in Wood Bucket, representing the Cantonese street flavours where you could get in Hong Kong or Guangzhou. They also have savoury items like fish balls on skewers with curry sauce. The price is reasonable for a taste of authenticity.
