It’s been too long since we’ve had sushi so we decided to try out Hyoga Japanese Cuisine. They seem to everything including ramen, udon, sushi and curry. It’s Japanese run and located a few doors down from Joojak. Hours. Love the ghetto cardboard sign. We dropped in on a Tuesday evening (around 7:30pm). The inside is small with one waitress running the show. Service is warm, friendly and our teas were refilled many times.
Excellent sushi, Japanese-run. Decently priced, good service and attentive staff. The presentation of the rolls is excellent and everything tastes fresh!
This is a small, cozy restaurant that could be easily missed when walking along Kingsway. I came here for dinner on Canada day and it wasn't really busy. The service was really good. They let me choose whichever table I wanted and were very attentive. When the food was taking a little long, she was apologetic (but it actually didn't really feel like we were waiting that long).
For food, we ordered the negitoro tartare, pressed salmon sushi, and sashimi salad. I liked the dressing for the salad and it had a good variety of fish. The salmon sushi had plenty of salmon and good flavour. The tartare was really good. It was buttery and smooth and had a really interesting presentation. There were chips to eat with it as well as two rolls of rice wrapped in seaweed. I thought this was a unique dish and I'd come back for it again. I did think the negitoro got a little lost with all the sauce and oil, but it was still good.
Overall, delicious food and great service.
