Hurray for all the hong kong cafes down thsi way! One of the true favorites with so much selection and large portion size too! I usually go for the noodle soup or baked pasta dishes! They can't be missed!
What can I say other than this is a “family favourite”? It doesn’t put a hole in our wallets, the service is quick if a bit abrupt, the food comes in huge proportions and everything’s tasty to boot!
My personal favourites:
1) Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice
2) Sweet and Sour Deep Fried Chicken
3) Beef with Soy Sauce Rice Noodles (sorry not pictured)
I always order the same three dishes (cause I’m basic...) but I hope you consider giving them a try. They taste just as good if you do take out, fear not.
Happy eating!
Despite the name being very similar to that up and coming coffee chain, this classic Hong Kong Cafe has no similarities to it whatsoever. Honolulu Cafe has been a staple in the Kingsway and Joyce area for decades…at least as far as I can remember. I remember them being known for having really sticky floors and really cheap food, but for whatever reason, haven’t given it a shot until recently! When you’re out late and need a bite to eat, while the other joints have all but shutdown, Honolulu Cafe has your back.
Perfect way to start the day with a Hong Kong style breakfast! Ordered the mushroom omelet with French Toast, Ham Macaroni, and iced milk tea for only $7.25. Love the simplicity because you really can't mess up Hk breakfast. The milk tea here is the best, perfectly sweetened and compliments all the other items.
delicious traditional chinese cuisine! efficient service and food comes fast. The lunch/dinner combo is a great deal and comes with large portions. I frequent here often.
Owner Nice, decent value, sucky service though. Really decent value especially the mini dishes (still big). We knew the owner and she is very nice. But if she isn't the one serving you then too bad..
Cheap food is all you get. I thought their breakfast meals were quite the deals. Breakfast - eggs, toast and meat with some kind of noodles, was good to share.
Then again, I didn't think it was very clean. Typical chinese fast food. Service is out of the question for these kind of prices.
Needs cleaning/updating. Taste is ok, price is ok, but portions are small.
the restaurant could use a serious cleaning or updating
Honolulu Cafe on Kingsway is a Hong Kong Cafe popular for their mini-meals and late night snacks. Their portions are large, and inexpensive .
I really enjoy the Hong Kong style cafes - they're not something that I've grown up with, but feel like they're perfect; open late, tons of choices, comfort food, great prices. What's not to love? Honolulu Cafe on Kingsway is our current favourite - why would a Chinese cafe name itself after a city on the island of Oahu (and the home of President Obama)? I have no idea!
