My girlfriend and I had high expectations coming in for lunch. We saw some of the photos and the food looked delicious. The prices were on the high side, but that didn't shy us to turn away.
The quality of the appearance of food looked amazing. They had a small kitchen on one side, they a showcase of prepared items like salads and crab cakes, then a smaller showcase of fresh daily catches. The seafood looked very very fresh and we couldn't wait to eat.
The service is fantastic from beginning to end.
I ordered the 2 piece ling cod and chips. The fish was so plump and the fries were really good. However... The batter didn't seem to have any seasoning. It tasted really bland... But that's fine, I could always add vinegar and seasoning at the table. Atleast I know it's not caked with loads of sodium.
The fisherman's stew had alot of seafood and the colour of the broth was rich in tomato colour. However again... It seemed to be missing seasoning again?! We were fine because we just added hot sauce and a touch of salt and it was perfect!
At the end, we enjoyed our meal. I'm not sure about rating it higher. I was contemplating but just based on today's food, we weren't completely disappointed, just left content, but not satisfied. Especially when your paying a premium price. Then again I appreciate the fact that all the ingredients are fresh and they are using wholesome ingredients, instead of can items with alot of sodium and preservatives.
The seafood is always fresh. Lots of good salads to take out as well as vegetables that you wouldn't normally bother to make...risotto cakes, beet terrine, roasted tomatoes etc. the kitchen has a fairly limited menu but it's all delicious!
Best fish and chips I've ever eaten. I was attracted to this place for two reasons, their location, and the fact that they have sablefish fish and chips. Although a bit pricy, their sablefish and chips was amazing. Served with fresh fries, and an Asian slaw, the fish was cooked perfectly and not over seasoned. I was able to taste the fish and added tartar sauce to season as I liked. It's more of a cafe type place and they don't offer table service. That being said, it seems to get alot of volume, and as I said before, their sablefish and chips were the best fish and chips I've ever had.
Melt in your Mouth Fish n' Chips. The best fish n' chips I've had in years. I went because of the sablefish option and I was not disappointed, it was absolutely amazing. The Thai based coleslaw was fabulous, the fries were crisp and fresh. All in all, the entire family loved it!
The staff took the time to interact with my two young kids and show them around. I love the deli items, smoked fish, and the fish and chips are terrific.
Hands down best fish and chips. So surprised to find the most amazing fish and chips here!! Crispy, thick, but such light batter fried just right. I loved that they put the effort into homemade tartar sauce that was so tasty. The fries were nice and thin and perfectly crispy (I can't stand fried that are undercooked). I was most impressed with how fresh the food was, and that they took the time to cook everything to the right goldenness instead of rushing it. Even the slaw had a great dressing. $8 for a fantastic fish and chips. Definitely will make this place a regular. Try it for sure!
Truth in advertising. Okay, not advertising, but the quality of seafood served here pretty much sums up the name of the establishment.
Not your typical restaurant, there is no table service: you go to the cashier at the deli counter where you order and pay. When your food is ready, a chef calls your name and you bring your food to one of the handful of tables or the bar along the wall. The tableware, water, and ketchup are all self-serve, and from the length of time dirty dishes are left lying around, apparently so is clearing the tables.
The menu is pretty simple so we did not have any difficulty zeroing in on the mussels and frites and the crab cakes. The mussels were steamed perfectly, and the accompanying sauce was a great complement. The hefty Dungeness crab cakes had copious amounts of crab, but the ratio of crab to filler was slightly too low for our preference. This is just quibbling because both dishes were tremendously delicious and a great value.
Finally, when you are done with your meal, there is a large display case with the freshest seafood, appetizing salads and other prepared foods. There are also shelves of salts, condiments, and an abundance of other ingredients for preparing a tasty meal at home.
Yummy food out or in, Finest at Sea had you covered.
Along with live seafood like crab and prawns, they also have an extensive variety of fresh wild fish like salmon, cod, and halibut. We picke
I stopped in to check out the smoked salmon offerings. Top quality product and a variety of options available. I decided to have fish and chips while I was there. I had a piece of halibut. It was everything I want a piece of battered fish to be. Crispy batter, tender, flaky fish. Excellent fries and tartar sauce. The coleslaw was adequate, but not a show stopper. It's worth a trip, for sure!
Excellent fish and chips. Never have been disappointed and I've had the halibut, ling cod, and salmon. Generous portion of fries!
Great store with more than just seafood items. In a pinch, you could come in and pick up dry pasta, fresh fruits and veg , and of course seafood.
I normally come here in the summer for salmon and when the time is right spot prawns and they don't disappoint.
A lot of traffic (as you can see from the other posts) are mostly commenting on fish and chips and their other cooked food. Again, it's just a portion of what they do.
The fish and chips are solid and the batter is not too thick. Got takeout and ate it 20 minutes later and was still crispy. Recommend calling the order in , especially if it's getting close to lunch time as there is a high school close by and it can get crowded. People talk about the fries and they are good. For value and quantity, it definitely hits the spot. Also tried the curries eggplant halibut wrap. It was good. Maybe a bit mild for my tastes but for those wanting that light curry flavour with their fish, this would work for you.
Parking in the complex , with the highschool crowd etc...can be a bit of a slog depending on the time. Though I find the best and easiest place to park is on the street.
After visiting their Victoria location last year, I was keen to go the Vancouver Location in Arbutus for having fish and chips. The fish was delicious, crispy and fresh as expected. We tried sockeye salmon fish, with potato fries, coleslaw salad. We also had the yummy bisque for the first time (a thick seafood fish soup ) with some garlic bread.
The prices were very reasonable. Great portion size. The fish and chips dinner is enough for teo people. I will visit this place again for trying the other fish cuisines.
Fish are very fresh and fries are good. However, the fried fish flavours are dull and don't compete well with other fish and chips location in town
Halibut and chips. Enough said. Always fresh seafood. Friendly staff.
Customer service was great in helping me decided what I wanted to purchase! Took the time to answer questions and find the right item for me. Food was also amazing, best fish & chips I’ve had in a long time! A must check out when you’re in the area.
Definitely amazing! Ordered all kinds of deep fried fish and literally everything tastes fresh and amazing. Just a note that there is already tartar sauce in there so you don’t really need to order more lol
My local take-away chippie serves up fresh helpings of Cod, Sablefish, Salmon, & Halibut. I find the portions to be generous & reasonable. Eat it while it's hot otherwise it can lose it's crunchy texture. The yam fries are a great option.
Great selection of seafood, and pickled/smoked products. Large condiment section including fresh bread. Small bistro type area. Good prices. Good parking. Friendly helpful staff.
