The western portion of Robson Street has gone through a transformation of sorts over the years. From its humble beginnings as hub of German and European shops, to Japanese ones, and now Korean, it always seems to be a place of constant change. While walking near the Robson Public Market the other day, I came across Cupbap Burger, which, if memory recalled, had a short lived shop near the Law Courts on Hornby. Given how tastily pictured their food looked, and how reasonable the prices were, I decided a visit was merited!

I have always wondered why the Robson Public Market has not been more of a thriving concern. It always seems nearly empty and barely occupied and yet it is in such a densely populated area. That doesn't mean that there hasn't been some good eats available there from time to time. Cupbap Burger is an example of that. It is accessible from Robson Street as well as from inside the market. I was intrigued by the whole Korean Burger concept and so decided to to check it out. So the bun is rice pressed into a mold. It looks like you should be able to pick it up and eat it like a burger. This was not my experience. It might have worked that way if I had kept the wrapper around part of it but I didn't and it fell apart. This is the bulgogi burger and frankly, it was delicious, but I ate it like bulgogi and rice. I also ordered Japchae which came with more bulgogi and rice. The noodles were excellent! Altogether, I paid about $15 dollars and took at least half of the food home for dinner. A smoking bargain and delicious! Its a pretty tiny place but you can sit along one wall (facing yourself in the mirror if that is not a problem). Or you can sit outside. I think most of their business might be take out. The owner / chef works in full view and was by himself when I was there. We had a good laugh about my ordering too much as it was my first visit and didn't expect such generous servings. Definitely a hidden gem!

Decided to try it out and I'm really glad I did! We had the bibimbap, teriyaki chicken, donkatsu bap burger and kimbap. The kimbap reminded my of childhood snacks and the complimentary katsuobushi broth was deliciously paired with all the rice. A huge meal for two with a drink for $25 in this area of town is a steal! I'd reccomend for takeout as well.

Where can you get a delicious lunch for under $10.00?   Try Cupbap Burger on Robson Street, Vancouver.  We tried the Bulgogi Bap Burger and the Donkatsu Bap Burger for $4.99 each.  They are a fair size, unique and they are very tasty.  The owners are very accommodating and try their best to please the customers.  For a quick low cost lunch I suggest you give them a try.
