This noodle place is located in downtown, but it is very close to BCIT and some schools. Their pricing is considerably at a cheaper range. Obviously, the target markets are students or people who work in the neighbourhood that do not want to spend too much on food.
I went here for lunch on Sunday. It was very interesting that the restaurant used two chairs to block the entrance, but the restaurant was open! I asked the owner about it. She said they only served noodles, but not rice and any other things. It was just strictly noodles. I said sure and I only wanted to try their beef noodles in soup. She let me in.
I did not really look at the menu and placed an order of the beef noodles in soup. The chef there cooked quickly. A bowl of beef noodles in soup arrived at my table. The presentation was just like the way I cooked and served myself at home! Their beef was very tendered and it was cut into small cubes. The texture of the noodles was just about right that it was not too soft or too hard. The menu did not say the soup was spicy. I expected it was not spicy, but it was actually a bit spicy! Not bad.
The interior design of this restaurant is not attractive or upscale. The pricing is cheaper in downtown, so it is fair enough that the interior design or cutlery that they use is just okay. I would like to use the word "canteen" to describe this restaurant.
This is a little diner I came across on a cold winter day when a good soup and tea were the best way to get my core temperature back to normal. The soup was vegetarian and well rounded nutritionally. The serving size was generous and the value was very good. Service was better than expected for a casual little diner. I'll be back for sure.
○ok service/ order at counter
○decent Taiwanese food around this area
○over priced Taiwanese food but then of course for this area they can charge that much
○would I go back? Maybe
We walked by and were super surprised to see a restaurant advertising Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, so of course wanted to check it out! My friend ordered the wonton noodle soup with chicken wings (and only got a single wing...?), while I ordered the beef noodle soup. The noodles were cooked well, and the soup wasn't bad at all, a little overly salty and surprisingly spicy. Pricing was very reasonable for the portions. Overall, we think this place is a decent choice for grabbing a quick bite of filling Chinese and Taiwanese food.
A Great Soulful Soup
Powers the good eating at
Downtown’s Big Bowl Rice
Thanks to the chili bean sauce, the Taiwanese beef noodle has a spicy kick, which paired with the rich umami soup, made the soup noodle complex and delicious tasting.
I love that fact I was able to find a hole in the wall eatery serving wonderful filling simple food in downtown Vancouver. I highly recommend Big Bowl Rice for a satisfying and inexpensive (by downtown standards) meal.

Great No Frills Downtown Chinese Restaurant
Tea Wok was too crowded, so I went to Big Rice Bowl for lunch and was happy with my cheap and cheerful Beef Noodle Soup. Been here in the past and happy to see that this place is under new management.
Might be the best beef noodle soup in the Downtown area right now and it serves Xiao Long Boa, too? I think I've found an alternative to Tea Wok and a replacement for Shanghai Xiao Long Boa Restaurant.
Yummy. Their speciality, Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, was very good. Bit spicy for me because I don't eat very spicy food. Good size, good price -> $8.00 on Fridays.
Delicious beef noodle soup. Spicey but not too spicey. The chunks of meat in it were so tender as mouth watering. If I lived in the city I would go once a week! Perfect soup for a warm day.
Very Delicious Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. I have been in the restaurant a couple of times - a little off the beaten path downtown. This "mom and pop" restaurant has been under new ownership since the beginning of summer. Beef Noodle is very good. I would say probably the best in downtown right now. Beef broth tastes really good infused with a lot star anise and fresh spring vegetables - not super oily like Chef Hung's Beef Noodle at Aberdeen. The noodles can be more on the chewy side but is cooked really well - has a real bite to them and is el dente, which I believe is the best way to cook noodles in broth be it Ramen or Wonton Noodles. I also tried a side dish of taiwanese chicken nuggets/nibblets - which was really nice. Overall, it was a great experience for the price - about $12.00. Will definitely be back to try some of their other items - I hear the chicken fried rice is not too bad...Interested to see what other urban spooners think so check it out...
