Probably one of my favourite sushi joints in Vancouver. Love the wasabi especially! They're always super friendly with great food.
Blew past my expectations! Every piece tasted amazing <3 Even the ginger and wasabi was all made and chopped in house!
By far the best sushi in Vancouver. Super cozy place and staff is very friendly. Been going there since they open and still going all the time :)
Time for some wasabi kicks into our food crawl – Sushi by Yuji. Melody chose this restaurant, because it is reasonably priced, and the ingredients are super fresh. More importantly, we are here for some egg porn!. Sushi by Yuji is a hidden gem on Nanaimo Street. Though it is small, they serve some of the best sushi in the Kensington area. We again ordered some of the daily specials, as well as the signature nigiri sushi. I only tried two sushi, Aji (Spanish Mackerel) Nigiri and Ika Mentaiko Gunkan, because I was full after two restaurants LOL!
I love this place. Small and cozy with yummy fresh tasting sushi that comes with the right proportion of rice. One of the best sushi place in town.
It waaaaaaaaaaassssssss likeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee soooooooooooooooooooooo flaaaaaaavourfuuuuuuuuuuuullll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me preface this post by saying that I love eggs. Poached, fried, boiled… you name it. So when I saw social media light up a few months ago with glorious pictures of ikura (salmon roe) and quail eggs, my interest piqued. This little restaurant is quite small and almost always busy. I managed to grab one of the last seats at the counter (there were a lot of tables that were set aside as reserved). Food started arriving after five minutes in waves as soon as it was prepared.
I love sushi! This place really impressed me. As my family was being seated, the chef was cutting up a fresh wild salmon seeing this guaranteed that my sashimi was not bought from a store in a frozen state.
What caught my attention when our first order arrived was the wasabi. It was from grated fresh from the root(see photo). FYI - I hate powdered wasabi. I tried their popular quail egg sushi, house roll, salmon cheek with sweet sauce and a few pieces of nigiri. The sushi quality is impressive and you'll notice it from the rice and your first bite. I would need to go back here and try the rest of their menu. My overall experience was exceptional and I want more of their food.
I recommend people to try this place at least once. Also call in to see if they are open because they have odd hours of operation.

The first dish to arrive was the Marinated Tuna, a small appetizer consisting of marinated small cubes of tuna, wasabi, sesame, and daikon. The smell of sesame was quite strong here, and the tuna had an excellent melty and soft texture. However, I didn't exactly expect the tuna to be almost
We've heard and read good things about Sushi by Yuji and decided we had to give it a try. Overall, we had a good experience. We would recommend it, but we're not sure if we'll return because we really like our grilled mackerel, and they didn't have it.
Keep in mind eating here was more of a challenge than I had anticipated, everytime i tried they were always closed. It wasnt until one morning i decided to go and be there as soon as the doors opened for their lunch time, not too sure why but it seems like they close the restutuaunt after only a few customers. Maybe to keep the capacity low and to focus more on the food? Not too sure ... Either way the food was great! Everything was so fresh and made with a lot of precision, possibly some of the fattiest toro I've ever had.. IN MY LIFE. I recommend trying the negitoro here as it is delicious, its made with green onions and for a girl who doesn't usually like green onions I found this to still be great. The only dishes i didnt care for were the cooked salmon and the uni, I will admit I was a bit disappointed with the uni as it didnt taste as fresh as everything else. Another thing to remember is this place can be a bit more expensive, especially if you order a lot of nigiri which is their specialty (imo).
Fresh and basic.
Second time here, everything was as good as last time.
Tried their engawa (halibut edge)..phenomenal piece of fish. When its first in your mouth, not much is happening. Right after your first bites, a rush of beautiful fat oozes out. It doesn't unpleasantly flood your mouth. It was the perfect amount of fish oil. After that I'm sold on engawa.
The only not so positive remark I have about this place is that they don't serve tamago. And as basic as this may be, I use this standard to determine how good a Japanese restaurant is. For them to not have it, Im a bit disappointed.
