I passed by Kent’s several times while wandering around Chinatown and wanted to give it a try but it always seemed to be packed. One morning, just after 11am I happened to catch it when there were only a few patrons present. It was a little earlier than I had intended for my lunch but I didn’t want to lose the opportunity and so I stopped in for a quick bite…

One of the few places that are priced for all members of the community. Decent food, big portions. If you have a sophisticated hipster palette, this place may not be for you.

權記菜館 Kent’s Kitchen (溫哥華的廉價飯堂)

在溫哥華唐人街有一間專食兩餸飯的廉價食肆“權記菜館”，它還有一間分店開在溫東Victoria Drive，但分店因為沒有洗手間配套未獲政府通過餐館發牌條例，所以分店只做外賣而沒有堂食。“權記菜館”也被稱為本地貧窮人士的飯堂，一份超量兩餸飯只售$6.95，份量足夠分享兩至三餐吃，所以經常會見到不少流浪漢或露宿者前來購買飯盒，大家亦見怪不怪，互相包容。來自香港的我自然會聯想起在深水埗北河街的窮人飯堂「北河燒臘飯店」，老闆明哥堅持賣它的低價飯，港幣19元一餸飯、22元兩餸飯、25元三餸飯。

“權記菜館”每天都有44款固定熟餸可供選擇，其中包括炒粉麵飯。這裡賣的兩餸飯盒只要$7， 份量又足，菜色選擇也多，更有燒臘可以買，堂吃還有免費自助熱茶及例湯供應，吃剩的可以原盒打包帶回家作晚餐甚至第二天的早餐呢！人多時段記得要先抽號碼牌等叫號服務，細看熱櫃的熟餸選擇，絕不會令你沒有胃口，有蝦有肉也有菜和飯麵等等....比起我們在商場Food Court的兩餸飯店選擇多好多，若不想食定價的兩餸飯，叫餸食飯也是可以的。雖然不算得上是什麼美食，但新鮮程度及味道還可以啊！
