Sushi Den is not far from where I live. In Vancouver, we have two kinds of sushi: "normal sushi" and "fancy, expensive sushi." Sushi Den falls under the first category. It's inexpensive, the portions are large and the service is quick. It tastes great, too. I particularly enjoy their bento boxes and yam rolls.

After all the food above, we decided to get a filler to really hit it home. The Ten Zaru Soba came with 5 pieces of tempura (two prawns and one piece each of yam, sweet potato, and kabocha). After teaching an afternoon yoga class to friends, one of them suggested going to Sushi Den. It’s a small restaurant in the International Village and T&T neighbourhood. I ordered the Negitoro roll $3 which was pretty good. I also had the Pork Deep Fried Gyoza $5 (sorry no pic!) It was ok. I personally prefer the traditional Gyoza, just slight pan-fried on one side. The staff seemed to be Japanese, and the service was satisfactory.
Sushi Den is your average sushi. Super cheap and big portions. I could probably name better places, but if you are craving sushi, nearby, and dont want to spend alot of money. This is your place.
The thing to order here is the sashimi and also the Funky Roll. This is a good neighbourhood sushi place and consistent food quality and acceptable service. It can get super packed during dinner times so usually I go either earlier or much later. Everything else on the menu is standard.

Reliable neighbourhood joint.
This post isn't about the most authentic Japanese restaurant or the best sashimi in town. This city is plagued with "Vancouver specials", of which locals are spoiled by an abundance of sushi spots throughout the mainland.
Being local to this neighbourhood I've fulfilled numerous sushi cravings at Sushi Den, and I have to say that it meets my criteria for a go-to casual meal - it's consistent, convenient, reasonable, tasty and fresh.
Today I had the chirashi don and ten zaru soba. The chirashi has 14 pieces of various seafood including pink "maguro" tuna, "toro" tuna belly, "sake" salmon and sockeye salmon, not to mention a couple thick slices of sweet tomago.
The zaru soba is a nice and light yet filling compliment to the sashimi bowl. The cold soba noodles dipped in lightly seasoned and iced soy mixture are refreshing on a hot sunny day. The 5 piece tempura side dish heats up the meal and adds that crisp textural component.
Service today was a bit slow as we had a trainee server (he was wearing a badge that told me so!) so I was a bit forgiving. Fortunately the main dishes were cold so waiting for sharing plates, soy sauce dishes and tea refills weren't as much of an annoyance.
Overall another solid visit to the local Den and will I "go-to" another day? Absolutely!
Yummy. Never tried this place because Tsuki is a block away and so good. But went there the other night after work and then took my son a week later. Good, fresh sushi. And reasonably priced. The server was kind of rude about me having a stroller with me, but otherwise good experience. Surprised at the lack of positive reviews.
**EDIT - just went and read a bunch of reviews and not at all surprised to see how upset people were with the service. They definitely need to hire some new servers.

Very surprised at these negative reviews!! I am as white as they get & they've always been very friendly to me here. I love how all the ladies & the chefs greet you all at once when you come in! Of course they're friendlier to fellow Asians, but I am neither surprised, nor offended by this. It is my favorite sushi that I can think of in van for this price. It is definitely my go-to for Sushi in Van.
Fresh fish, large portions, pleasant staff. Been here before once or twice. Today for lunch, had spicy salmon combo (miso soup, spicy salmon sashimi, and spicy salmon roll). Tasty. Maybe more sweet than spicy, but most places like that. My friend had some kind of fried chicken (not karage, don't know what it was called) and liked it. Others had the usual veggie tempura and cali roll, all acceptable. Waitress was friendly and helpful, and the food came quickly enough (she was maybe just a bit eager to get us the cheque, maybe because end of her shift? But we didn't really feel rushed, so no complaint.) This is not a fancy place. Prices are reasonable and quality is good. I'll come here again. I have to smile walking into a sushi place and being greeted with "komapsumnida" :-)
