This is the cafe I have been (dreaming of and) looking for! I am a student and love to post up hours on end in a cozy cafe. Nelson the Seagull has lots of places to sit, big tables, several outlets, free wifi, a water station and the best avocado toast! I love the ambiance, vibe and the customer service is awesome. I highly, highly recommend!!

They’ve got it all for brunch/lunch. Great coffee and amazing sourdough bread and baked goodies for the weak-willed like myself

zing that leaves my tongue tingling in the most lovely way.  Slather that butter on the bread and dip it. into the soup or do none of that and just eat the bread dry but either way, you. are in for a treat because the bread is a true delight, and quite possibly the. real star of the show. Presented with a choice of three sandwiches,

Sort of a dodgy area, but what amazing food and fast & warm service. Their avocado toasts are hyped for a reason- they’re THAT good! One time I was here, someone from the street came in and snatched someone’s food, but the manager/owner in charge apologized many times & offered the customers a free meal!

Really delicious avocado.  Perfectly riped.  Toast was a little hard though.  Love the salad, toast and avocado combination. Nelson the Seagull is at point X in Places Part 4 on the map below:. This is a popular bakery/cafe located in Gastown. I guess you can describe them as being hipster: the seating consists of communal long tables (and a few smaller tables for groups) and food is served on wooden boards. In addition to fresh baked bread and various other treats, they have a small menu of sandwiches, breakfast items, and drinks. I had their Lemon Zest Marzipan Croissant, Carnivore Sandwich, and Jam Wheel. While I wasn't blown away by the food, I thought it was still pretty solid. The prices are a tad on the higher side, but not unreasonable. This is a spot worth checking out.

Lemon Zest Marzipan Croissant ($4.00):
3.5/5
The pastry was quite flaky and tender, with a slightly salty flavour and a nice fragrance of lemon zest. I do wish that there was more marzipan.

Carnivore Sandwich ($12:00):
4/5
This contained roast beef, pesto, cheese, and mustard, and was served on their housemade sourdough bread. It came with a small side of greens, which didn't seem to be well dressed and was bland, although I did enjoy the strawberries that were mixed in. The bread was crusty on the outside and tender and chewy on the inside, and appears to have been lightly buttered. The filling was very tasty, with the meat being tender and smoky, the cheese creamy and sharp and the pesto lending a nice flavor and fragrance. It is a tad on the salty side, but I quite enjoyed it.

Jam Wheel ($4:00):
3.5/5
The pastry was a tad soggy, but still flaky and had a nice buttery flavour. The jam was not overly sweet, thick, and filled with blueberries. This was simple but tasty.

Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 3.5/5
Service: N/A
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: The Carnivore

This is a very homey brunch/lunch place. 😋 The inside is very spacious and there’s plenty of tables to sit and enjoy a coffee or do some work. The menu is very simple. I ordered the Nelson sandwich and my boyfriend the Carnivore sandwich. I really enjoyed the bread. Would definitely come here again to try the coffee!! ☺️

I stopped by At Nelson the Seagull with a friend to get some studying done. Let me tell you right now, it was hard to focus in a café this nice! The ambience is very nice and clean, and the light coming in from the windows just added to the aesthetics. Service was amazing as well, there are people that bring the food you order to your table.

The food was good! I had the carnivore sandwich, and my friend had the poached eggs on toast with avocado. The roast beef in my sandwich was the highlight. Beautifully tender and flavourful. The sandwich was cold, however, and the bread was hard to bite into. I would definitely prefer that it was a warm, toasted sandwich. I got to try the eggs, and they were well made, but the yolk wasn't as runny as I'd expected it to be. When the yolk was split, it was half-set. Just a small issue though. The dish was well-balanced in flavour, and the greens tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette gives you the acid you need to cut through the richness and fat of the two dishes.

The coffee here is pretty good too, although it's not mind-blowingly amazing. It's not that acidic which I really like, and it was bold enough to leave a pleasant sensation on the tongue. All in all, I will be coming back for sure!

Nelson the Seagull has been around since 2011, though she’s still got beauty in that old interior. The detail on those high ceilings, remind me of fine cheekbones on a porcelain face. Her grey eyes, those huge windows looking out onto a cloudy sky, sweep me somewhere far away from the Downtown Eastside.
There is something unconventional and other worldly about this place. And it all starts with their muse, Nelson Mandela. Lest you forget, a blown up photo is above their counter, a young man sporting boxing gloves, literally jumping out of photo, in his best fighting stance.

Coming here just for the sourdough bread is worth it. The popularity of the avocado toast results in them running out for the day often which leaves us in disappointment. Always come early if you want to eat this.

Great atmosphere with friendly staff. The coffee was good and it came in an amazing handmade mug. We ordered Peaches on Toast for light snack and it was delicious. The only complaint that I would have is that the bread was a bit too hard. But otherwise, it's a fantastic place to wind down and chill!

Best sourdough bread I’ve ever had in the town! I ordered the peach on toast and it was a fig walnuts(?) sourdough topped with ricotta, roasted peach, crushed walnut and mint. The texture of the sourdough was perfect, and you could definitely see the gluten formulated great structure by pulling a piece out to feel the stretch from the bread itself. The toppings had a pleasant summer taste which was light and sweet (but not too sweet for breakfast). The mint leaves were definitely the highlight of the entire toast, it elevated the total flavour and added a great kick to it. The store itself was extremely cute and well-decorated. The coffee was also great. It was a good location of quite reading or chatting with friends while enjoying the food and coffee.

Came here on a cold and gloomy day. The service was very nice. The pastry we got was the aged white cheddar and h croissant. It was really great warmed up! We also got the Nelson & Seagull sandwich which was just a normal sandwich, nothing super special about it. We love Mayo and there was extra Mayo on the sandwich so it was very enjoyable for us! The avocado toast was our fave food item. The coffee was really nice with a touch of honey.

Bread, FIRE. Pastries, FIRE. Atmosphere, calm and lovely. I haven't tried their coffee but I'm sure it's good, what I would recommend is any of their bread/pastry goods ESPECIALLY their sourdough. Boy. Their sourdough is amazing, the best sourdough I've had here. Soft and supple interior with a chewy and flaky exterior, their bread is perfect for toasting, eating alone or with some butter/jam, or making a sandwich. I highly recommend trying their Full Nelson Sourdough sandwich. The ingredients and how everything combines together so well. It's a homerun.

Cosy and quiet ambiance. What a stark contrast with the street a bit further. Romantic and aesthetic place with fresh flowers. Recommandations : honey turmeric latte and a cookie. I don't drink coffee but I think they look amazing.

We thought we'd checkout this awesome looking joint in the heart of Gastown with their intriguing 'Jol With Me, Honey!' as Parr of the Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival 2022, a great cause and way to support local businesses. Their hot chocolate was super yummy, really tasty and an elegant vibe of infusing honey without making it too sweet tasting. Absolutely rad, loved every second and the honeycomb chocolate treat was the perfect dipping buddy! Trust me, some of our friends got hot chocolates from other places but this joint was a cut above by far and our buddies were super jealous eh. A great vibe, super sweet joint to eat and drink in a laid back and minimalist clean setting. I love how they have an open style bake house inside and look to make some dope looking baked treats! Support local businesses!
