Love this place so much. On Thursdays they make an incredible Green Tuber cake which is one of a kind. The food, service and location is great! And nestled in between 2 art galleries. I think the American's are great here.
I recently went out for lunch with my mother downtown and she says she’s a regular at this Vietnamese restaurant. If it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for me. First impression, the menu is on the wall and it took me a minute to find where the noodle soups were. There is probably less than a handful of options for pho but definitely more rice dishes, western options, and desserts.
Downtown does not have a lot of Vietnamese restaurants. This one is considered a good one with reasonable pricing, good quality and many options. We love it.
We ordered a bowl of spicy rice noodles and lemon grass chicken with vermicelli and a spring roll. Both dishes were great. The rice noodles were the round thick ones that we loved the firmness and texture of it. Only one critic about the spring roll from the vermicelli dish was that the size was small and there were only 3 pieces.
The ambiance was okay. Space was quite big in the restaurant comparing to others. Customer service was average. It seems one of the servers didn’t quite understand English or English as their second language. We had to repeat our orders and made sure she got it.
Overall we had a great experience eating Vietnamese food in downtown. We would recommend to our friends and family to try it if they are in the neighbourhood.
came here during a lazy weekday afternoon, was thinking of a quick food to eat, and hmmm found this place in the middle of downtown and apparently is one of my bookmarked restaurants.. so went in, and ordered vermicelli, definitely good, i love it the juicyness of the lemongrass chicken, the nuts, and veggies mixed well enough to make a delicious lunch, definitely a good quick lunch in the area if you're craving for vietnamese food.
Great restaurant for a quick lunch during work hours. Their soups are super tasty and the portions are generous. Service is quick and our food was out within 10 minutes. It gets really busy during lunchtime and so it feels like one of those in and out places (rather than to sit down, relax and talk). There was lots of takeout too. I saw quite a few reserved tables but their phone was not in service so I couldn't make mine, that's something to fix. Ventilation isn't' great either, I came out smelling like the restaurant. Overall I'd recommend it for a quick lunch.
Good Vietnamese option for this side of downtown. They've got a few unique dishes outside of the typical pho. I like to order their bun (vermicelli) dishes because they really know how to grill meat well and their house fish sauce is great. At lunch time this place is super packed.
○good service/ call first and reserve if you want seats
○decent food but not the best Vietnamese food
○office meeting kind of place/ can be family friendly but a little on the tight side and very loud
○would I go back? Yes
Pretty nice Vietnamese place in the middle of downtown. Service was decent, and I liked how there was a huge vegetarian selection. Also, the lemon chicken smelled amazing for all you carnivores, though I just stuck with my tofu. Portions for the lemon chicken were not up to par, so my friend suggest to get the vermicelli versus the rice option.
Skytrain was broken again last night. Were you stranded on this urban island. Left figuring how to build a raft to get home, like thousands of other commuters. I was shivering on the sidewalk. Icy cold, standing in the wind turning, any residual good mood left in me leaving, fast, gone.Maybe I should have just turned on my heel, headed back into downtown, had some Vietnamese. Vietnamese is one of my favourite things to eat. Homey dishes, rice noodles in a soupy meat broth, fresh vinegary vegetables in crusty baguette. Grilled pork, cilantro, chili. Pickled, fermented.Joyeaux Café is the place we head for when life feels like it’s a little mean. This pretty French inspired café, with rounded archways, plain wood, jumble of tables, turn around this dark mood. A massive chalkboard menu crawls up to the ceiling with family style and individual dishes. They also do brisk take-out business and catering.
A completely unassuming exterior just beyond Dunsmuir on Howe led to a very spacious and welcoming interior. The service was kind, the food was delicious, and the prices were very fair. Would absolutely come back.
