What can I say. Best oysters ever!!! Fantastic food and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Scallops and pork belly - died and gone to heaven! And not to big a portion. You must have a Fanny Bay Caesar 👍😞😞
On a cool October Sunday, we went downtown for lunch/brunch at the Fanny Bay Oyster Bar & Shellfish market on Cambie street, just south-west of the CBC studios. It’s the same company that farms oysters in Baynes Sound on Vancouver Island, and a seafood market near the Buckley Bay Ferry Terminal. This location is both a retail front and a restaurant, along the lines of Rob Clark’s Fish Counter on Main Street. Although, Fanny Bay Oyster Bar has seating and table service (where as Fish Counter is a take out operation).
L and I prefer west coast oysters, but we enjoyed the Totten Virginia ($2.25). The oyster tasted a bit like celery. Compared to the Summit Seeker, the east coast oyster was cleaner with a crunchier texture.
Really tasty oysters, however when I was here before they served it with different sauces and now they only serve it with a vinaigrette. Last time I went we ordered much more food and waited over 50 mins but by that time we had to leave to catch our event. The server came back and took off everything off our bills (the oysters and beers). Was very pleased with how they reacted with this and I will come back for this reason.
We started with shooters and oysters. Both were not bad. However I personally still prefer Rodney because of their special sauce. One thing which stands out was their clam chowder, hot and delicious. Their clam and mussels spicy broth was not bad as well, but is kind of salty if you drink it without the bread. Overall I would recommend this restaurant because of the freshness of their seafood.
Go for happy hour and get the mussels! The staff is fabulous, and informative. Also, the waiter/shucker we had put up with our strange board game conversation that devolved quickly for quite a while. Awesome humans, amazing food.

The oysters were absolutely amazing. Fresh, savoury, juicy, and wonderfully priced during happy hour. I sat at the bar and the shucker shared so many stories and knowledge of oysters with us.
Great oysters and friendly service. They offer a variety of different oysters and some baked options. Also beer was very good. We had two small children along so our waiter let them sample a small oyster that he added a dash of apple cider to sweeten it. They were very brave but prefer cooked mussels. This was a very busy place so I recommend reservations especially for larger groups.
Located in the Stadium District of Vancouver, Fanny Bay Oyster Bar and Shellfish Market has been around for two years and is a 50-seat restaurant serving lunch, dinner, weekend brunch as well as a full bar and Happy Hour specials. All their seafood is Oceanwise certified and their space features a shellfish market with fresh-caught live, shucked, fresh and frozen oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp and prawns. Most recently, a few friends and I visited them for Happy Hour.
Great food and great deal for happy hour. We had the happy hour oysters for $1.50 each. Tried the deep friend oysters, and steamed mussels, which was all very delicious. A few things that I did not quite understand about this place. They asked if we wanted bread, then charged us for it. However, I didn't understand why the tables were so tiny. They could fit all our food on there for two and I felt like I was playing tetris the whole time I was eating there, conscious and worried about dropping things, as there tables were quite high as well. It was packed with people on a Friday evening, but the waitresses were not exactly warm and fuzzy. The lady that showed us to our table looked like she was miserable and snapped at me when I wasn't walking fast enough behind her after she grabbed the menu and said "this way please".
I decided to try this place for a second time, this time around we arrived just as happy hour was beginning. Though we didn't have to wait for a table this time around , I have to say the our dining experience could have been way more enjoyable if the female server ditched the attitude, no smile....nothing. Seriously, you work in the hospitality industry. The male servers were great, they ensured we were enjoying our meal and checked in on our table with a smile.
As for the food, oysters were fresh and delectable but we were disappointed they didn't have the habanero sauce. The deep fried oysters didn't come out until much later after we had completely finished our meal.
Both oyster dishes were great but it may take me another year to come back as the service from the one server was sorely lacking.
If you don't mind your service with attitude or you can see pass that then definitely head in to enjoy the food.
