I was so excited to try Zelden's Deli for lunch today. The menu had so many things I love I didn't know where to start! I had an amazing pastrami sandwich on rye with coleslaw and a pickle. Amazing! I also tried the pastrami bomb... Never had one before and it did not disappoint. Deep fried pastrami ball... So delicious. And I couldn't hit a deli without some kishka and gravy... Among the best I've had! I still have a lot of leftovers for later. No way I could eat all that for lunch but needed to try it all!! I can't wait to go back!
I'm a 50 year resident of the Yonge & St. Clair area > major burger, pizza and deli food fan. I've seen many businesses come and go over the years in this neighborhood > so I was excited to try Zeldens yesterday. Long story short, my beef brisket sandwich was very dry and the Kaiser bun not overly fresh, with a one dollar surcharge for the bun, on top of the pricey $11.95 for just the sandwich alone. Add on a side of fries or soup, and you're looking at a minimum $18-$20 {including HST} bill for a take-out order. This price-point will not work in our largely residential area where there are other better-value restaurant take-out/dine-in options. And many locals already have strong loyalties to lower-priced places like Swiss Chalet, Harveys, Druxys, Holy Chuck etc... The past three new restaurants opened in the Yonge & St. Clair area each lasted no more than 6 months > Carl's Jr / a Portuguese chicken and a Fish & Chips dining establishment > mainly because they attempted to break into an established market with quality food offerings, but at over-inflated menu prices. I hope Zeldens breaks this recent business trend, but I have my doubts > Wishing the owners best of success though!

Now *that’s* a latke!
We had passed by Zelden’s a couple of time, and we were in the mood for deli, so the opportunity seemed right. The restaurant was about half full. After reading a couple things on the menu and the wall, we learned that it was the next generation of Zeldens, resurrecting a restaurant that existed in Thornhill many years ago.
SWBMO decided on the Corned Beef on Rye from the Classic Deli menu section, with a side of Latkes. The meat was tender, lean, and piled high. The latke was very traditional, with grated potato and some grated onion, and then fried. Great taste and texture.
I’m a sucker for anything eggplant, so I chose the Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich, with a side Onion was Rings. The eggplant was breaded, cooked all the way through and soft, just the way it should be. The batter on the onion rings was lighter and airier than most.
A nice meal.
